An Architect's Own Home Designed as a Functional and Liveable Space (House Tour)

Nestled within a leafy suburb of Brisbane, Uxbridge House by Tim Stewart Architects is the quintessential of an architect's own home. The final structure was built up from a very small house. Typically, a Queenslander home is a weatherboard house with battens underneath - Uxbridge House flips this tradition. Still maintaining a connection to the local community, the house now creatively has battens on the upper level to protect the architect's own home from the sun and provide extra privacy, whilst the lower level, still weatherboard, now sits on darker base below.
As the family grew, so did their home. Tim Stewart of Tim Stewart Architects accepted the challenge of designing his own home, balancing the aspirations of the client and the responsibilities of the architect. As an architect’s own home, Uxbridge House reflects the personality of Tim and his family, acting as a functional, liveable space. With the building surrounded by trees and landscaping, light catches the interior spaces in different ways. Throughout different times of day and season, light moves around to create new experiences throughout the day, breathing life into the architect's own home.
Tim worked with Tongue n Groove, who provided Hekke board - a timber with a detailed weathered effect - to bring warmth into the family home. The character, colour and consistency of the timber fits in with the textual and colour palette of the interior design of the house. As the wax finish does not show marks or footprints, the board is a perfect fit for the bustle of an architect’s own home designed for family life.
The property, which sits along a bike path that travels up and out through many of Brisbane’s northern suburbs, is defined by its edges - the greenbelt slicing through the inner suburb, Grange. The public edges of the park and bike path influenced the layout of the home - the living, dining and kitchen area is a gathering space that has the opportunity to interact with neighbours and the community. As a completed entity, Uxbridge House gives beyond the family and out to the surrounding neighbourhood.

Explaining why he chose specific materials and the all over look actually makes sense. The way this was filmed allowed me to appreciate the textures of the home.

This is one of my favourite of all you feature homes. It’s a fabulous design but isn’t pretentious. The light & shadow, the interior & exterior connection and that beautiful colour palette. Those beautiful tiles connected to the wooden walls just gives such a warm, comfortable look - I’d love to relax there! It’s modern design without the knobbery that some fall into

Another stunning Australian home. And it is a Home, a family home. Beautifully finished, natural materials and excellent design. The use of timber and concrete. A home for life with the community taken into consideration. Thank you.

So cozy and chic! That weaving leaf pattern as a matte wallpaper almost looks like a patterned brass inlay. Looks rich and opulent. I can't tell if it is polished wallpaper or a metal inlay. I love a house that lets you breathe but still hugs you. This home is like a soothing exhale after a long day.

I love your channel, and love the fact that (finally?) Australia is embracing Asian styles. A simple nod though to Japan for instance would be nice, given that your history had always been so insulated towards Asian culture.

Nice, but like a beautiful woman dressed for an evening out you need to remove one or two things. Wearing dangling earrings, 3 rings, bangles/bracelet and a watch is too much. Each on their own is great but all together....?? Gilding the lilly as the old saying goes. 3:33 you have wood grained concrete, brick, finished concrete, small geometric tan tile in wall and wood. Too much. 4:26 fine wood paneling, glazed tile backsplash, stone or Corian(tm)-type material on the kitchen island, melamine looking cabinets, black stone on the counter top, all in a 20 foot span. Its like going to a home decor store and flipping through sample book. All high quality I'm sure but higgedly-piggedly.

@mnqolivia

@@willbass2869 I don't think that analogy is apt. The point is that tastes differ. You seem to be declaring the design as objectively bad.
@willbass2869
@willbass2869 3 года назад
@@mnqolivia the design is nice just too much variety. Choose a theme and then have 2-3 variations that compliment.....not 5-6. One tat is OK (I guess) but a road map in Technicolor from wrist to jawline is way overboard.
