What an amazing property! But more so an amazing home! Passive and eco in every sense. The simple design and minimalist approach works so well. Yet it is a family home. With the foresight of " apartment" within for whatever the future holds. Also with climate change, this property is capable of dealing with all weather conditions. Brilliant! Thank you for sharing.

So glad you liked the home. Indeed it is weather and future-proof. It’s amazing how warm it was inside on a cloudy winter day. Thanks for watching!

Large roof over hangs are beautiful and protect the doors, windows and siding from rain and moisture damage. Water is the enemy of buildings. Architects and home builders need to bring back large roof over hangs

It’s mind-boggling how so many houses were built without any shading for decades. Just because verandas were suddenly not fashionable anymore.

Form and function, enclosing the maximum interior space with the minimum exterior surface. The world better start thinking along these lines, efficient use of materials and energy. Every penny spent upfront towards conservation of energy will pay for itself many times over the life of the home.

Given they have young kids, I feel like it is ideal. Having a permeable driveway is also a great choice (even though you'd need to wear shoes on it I imagine!)
@theleanarchitect
@theleanarchitect 7 месяцев назад
@@PostImperfect Yes permeable paving was a consideration, but also cost! The gravel was self-installed for a fraction of the cost of concrete or paving.

Nice house. The plot is of course small, 1000 m2, 10 acres is for a house of 80 - 100m2. I would like to see the engineering part. The construction of the foundation and walls, as well as their thermal insulation.

It seems to be a small town. Well populated area from what I can gather from the aerial footages, 1000 m2 seems like plenty to me. Country side to raise cows, yeah sure, this is too small 🙂

@@EZ-lj3hv This house is in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, with a population of over 2M. Floreat is one of the most beautiful suburbs (my favourite) where you can still find large blocks. The current average is about 370m2, so considering that this is a huge block :)

If you live in an area subject to high winds, hurricanes or tornados a concrete or cbs build is preferred. Are there efficient homes using this material?
@ProjectifiAU
@ProjectifiAU 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely, material choices must be based on the particulars of the location. The biggest energy wasters are always the roof, the doors and windows.

Why avoid steel?
@theleanarchitect
@theleanarchitect 7 месяцев назад
Steel has high embodied carbon and acts like a thermal bridge, reducing comfort and energy efficiency. It is also costly and slows down the build process.

Every home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels. Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it. We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes. It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity. the future is electric. Wind and solar energy along with electric vehicles are the future. Stop using fossil fuels. There is a climate crisis.
@someoneelse5005
@someoneelse5005 4 месяца назад
rain is not wasted, it is just returned to the ecosystem, and also in most places it is illegal to store it

I like that he talked about how bad steel is, then we get to see the entire house is literally incased in steel panels... but you know, the beams aren't made from steel so its fine. hahaha
@theleanarchitect
@theleanarchitect 7 месяцев назад
There is a big difference in the embodied energy and lifecycle cost of light gauge steel cladding vs heavy structural steel beams. The corrugated steel cladding provides a lifetime of maintenance free protection to the home, compared to a painted alternative.

I also wonder how such an airtight design deals with odours from cooking and general odour in the house. Especially if the peprson building the house is from Asian country. And you know how Asian foods has lots of spices. And after cooking even one meal, the house yearns for ventilation, if not provided, it becomes a haven for bad odours. Please shed some light on that aspect if you can.
