In this episode of Expert Voices, join Frank Everett in an exploration of an extraordinary sapphire and diamond bracelet by Cartier. Made in 1927, this masterpiece was created during what many consider the golden era for the prestigious jewelry house. The bracelet is adorned with a stunning Royal Blue Burmese sapphire, weighing 47.07 carats, flanked by two pear-shaped white diamonds weighing 9.27 and 8.60 carats respectively. This dazzling bracelet captures the essence of Art Deco grandeur and will be the centerpiece of Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels Auction. (11-13 November| Geneva)

What a great sapphire cabochon. It could easily have been faceted, (unfortunately losing maybe 25% of the weight), but the jeweler recognized its historical value, and preserved it. I love the old mine cut diamonds too. They have character, whereas most modern brilliants do not.

I have seen a lot of jewelry over the years but that is simply magnificent. That is something that is truly extraordinary. I only hope that someone buys it and wears it.

Well, maybe it’s because I am male, that I prefer watching jewels, rather than having the dream of possessing them. In my opinion the worst thing people can do is, to buy pieces of this extraordinary craftsmanship, just to put them into a safe. When they aren’t worn, owners should exhibit jewels like this one of a kind and pick them up, when they want to wear it.

Despite of it’s been years this bracelet looks contemporary, I can’t believe it’s created in 1927

Natural unheated Burmese Cabochon sapphire of this transparency and size is extremely rare. It also shows the typical electric (royal) blue color and fully saturated. With both ( 2) antique cut of D-color diamonds makes this bracelet more valuable and attractive.

Someone please explain me how Cartier FINDS gems of historic value? They wouldn't be lying in dirt? Never do They use words like- bought/exchanged/gifted. Or is it some valuable piece of historic and monetary value STOLEN and FOUND is the word used to cover it all up?? Seems like I answered my question

@Taps fan in India, the Maharajas would not sell their diamonds, since they were regarded as status symbol and after the East India company annexed Indian states, the Maharajas spent all the more in jewelry and artifacts, that they would rather sell, as they didn't have to spend on army and other stuff. BTW what about the other historical artifacts like statues and other things in British museum?? I hope they were also gifted to the Queen of the queens or sold to the Company to get the jewelry for themselves or in exchange for food/technology for the Indian mass??

I prefer cabochon to faceted. I always think they are trying to hide something when a stone is faceted. Although the the emerald cut is a beautiful cut, allows you to look into the depth of the stone.

What a beauty.....Would have been nice if he had used the french pronunciation of Cartier. It sounds so much nicer for something as beautiful as this and with an auction value of $2,000,000-£3,000,000. Hard to imagine what it must be like to be able to pay $3,000,000 (or more) for a bracelet. WOW!
