This is a typical solo camping trip in the backcountry of the Yellowstone ecosystem. I try to show the kinds of things to be aware of while camping in a high density grizzly bear area.

I learn a lot from your intimate knowledge of bears. Your love and respect for them is evident. It's refreshing to find someone who doesn't view them as trophies.

Thank you so much for taking us along with you. This is my favorite kind of country and I get choked up every time I see it. I was raised on a working ranch and miss the beauty of it all. Thank you so much!

There are some many reasons why I feel the same way. I hope you get the chance to go out and enjoy it also.

Mine is starting to get old. I may have to start using a regular tent.

I love this one, Stan. Thank you for the interesting info! I am always intrigued by the fact that gizzly bears love to eat little things like those bulbs and ants. Ouch. An ant? Ha! Well, you know what I mean. And they work really hard...of course, they have the right equipment. But, still puzzling to me. Thanks again!

I have used this hammock a lot. But it is starting to leak. I may go back to my regular tent this year because it is a little lighter and easier to set up.

Thanks Stan for the hike, sharing your camp site set up (what was the wood shelter about?) and most importantly your respect for the landscape and its natives.

Was building a shelter for something to do but didn't finish it. I may go back up there this summer and finish it and stay in it.

WOW Stan this is the first time that I have ever seen you stay over night and in Grizzly country at that! 🐻 Beautiful view you had at your campsite, just beautiful! I never did see any Grizzly, just a Moose (I think it was) and an Elk, gorgeous animals! Thank you for sharing your videos, I really appreciate it! Take care Stan, Your friend, Didi 👋

I went to your channel to see if you have hiking videos. Do you hike there in Idaho? I know Idaho has many beautiful places to hike and backpack.

@@StanMillsHey Stan. Thanks for the response! Created a channel for the future so when I retire again for the 3rd time, I will have something to do. 😊. I do hike quite a bit in Idaho mostly rivers since I do fly fish and absolutely love nature and being out in it. Drove through Yellowstone once, but would love to hike in the backcountry to see it’s true beauty and why I asked for your experience. Hope that makes sense. I am a Christian who loves to enjoy God’s Beautiful Creation! I am not far from many trails in the Sawtooth Mountains. Another beautiful place. Take care!!

Beautiful hike Stan and a really cool spot to hang a hammock. Great work with the videography. I'm guessing this was outside the NW corner of the Park

I wish I could have actually seen a bear on this trip, but it is hard to spot them this time of year. Thanks for your comment.

I'm super impressed that you can so confidently be in bear country. I'm new to your channel but imagine that you have stayed alive by knowing a lot about how to behave in their world etc. Even so i guess things can still go sideways. I wonder how you psychologically manage with knowing that? I guess life is a balance between risk and reward. The food which you have hoisted into the air is a decoy for bears while you sleep?
@StanMills
@StanMills 2 месяца назад
I hope you are able to watch more grizzly bears videos on my channel because I do talk about those things. Yes, I do rely on experience very much. But I didn’t always have experience. I started out relying on Gods promises and learning his wisdom (not man’s wisdom). Now it is not about psychological management or risk balancing. It’s about living and exploring God’s beautiful creation in peace and freedom. When I truly gave my life to the Lord, life of risk and chance went away. It is truly walking by faith and not by sight. This can be a very hard thing for people to understand and can sound like foolishness I know. But I can only try to answer your questions in truth and from the heart. Thank you very much for your nice comment and questions. Have a great day.

Good wisdom/advice Stan! Best not to camp in areas where there is seasonal food and grizzlies have been recently feeding. This would include summer berry patches such as huckleberry, and near streams where and when there are spawning runs.
@StanMills
@StanMills 4 месяца назад
Right. But the funny thing is, if you camp inside the park, the backcountry campsites are always in the best spots for grizzly activity.

I don't think the Bigfoot is going to appreciate you building a structure in his territory. OR he might really appreciate it AND move in lol

No doubt you have a very dependable knowledge of Grizzly country, but I was confused why you built the shelter as you slept in your tent. Beautiful country and great video.

Great video, Stan. Thank you. Would you be willing to share which trail you hiked here? At first I thought you may have just picked up a game trail, but later in the video there were a couple sections that looked like well-maintained trails. Clearly you were outside of YNP given you were able to pick your camping spot. I'm assuming this was somewhere up Hwy 191 north of the park?
