Nice ride mate. It’s so good that you can do such things with your brother. Good practice for the Simpson crossing that you’ll no doubt be doing soon. 🤙
Thanks heaps, Lance, I’m very lucky that I can! It sure was and it’s locked in for next year - I’ll be sure to rewatch your crossing for research for the trip 🤙
What an adventure and how great it was to do as brothers..... I don't know about all that dune riding(I'm used to the forests)...but the Flinders was stunning.
Finally had some time to sit back and watch the whole video mate. Well worth the wait! Throughly enjoyed it!! Great editing and awesome you can do this stuff with your brother. Keen for the next one 😎
Epic as man congrats all the planning, all the prep and apart from some small issues a great trip all round. Head ons on sand dunes is a big thing, glad you survived that one. And the trusty 250, man what a bike.
Thanks heaps man, the WR performed absolutely flawlessly. 4300k's and all I did was adjust and lube the chain! Didn't burn a drop of oil and I was ringing its neck out on the freeway and in the sand!
Thanks Nerb! Yeah, in hindsight, we should have camped at Mt Finke but we got there around ~3pm so had a lot of time to spare. We didn't actually realise that the sand continued past it and it actually got harder, so we should have stayed instead of making the push to Kingoonya which made that a very, very long day haha!
Nice mate. I like the different camera views and variety. Colour grade looked nice. Intense but made the desert and sky look amazing. We have a beautiful country. You’ve made me want to visit there! Cheers.
Love your work fellas 🤙🏻 Watching that section through Arkaroola brought back memories from my trip this time last year. Keen to see your Simpson crossing 😉👍🏻
What an epic trip fellas! Top-notch edit, and that drone footage is just incredible. I would have missed you blokes by about a week in the Flinders, and it looks like you found some way better tracks than I did, I might have to get some tracks from you before I go again.
Thanks heaps mate and yeah, we only spent two days in the Flinders, so mostly just hit some tracks around Arkaroola and then some of the iconic Gorges but I'm super keen to go back!
How good was that intro, very pro mate 👌 what a mint trip and epic vid Joshy thanks for sharing mate looks like you lads had a great time. Nice shirt there too man 😎👍
Thanks mate, a bit different to my usual style of video but enjoyed making this one 👌 Shirt is fkn mint, was the only tshirt I brought and wore it for like 5 days straight 😎
Maaate so good thanks for that. Flinders has been on the bucket list for a while. You can keep the bloddy Googa track though 😂. Please compare the Flinders to the vic high country for me ?? Also just like to say a big hello to your Bro. You guys are so lucky to be able to do this together. Keep up the good work and love the new drone. I may get one at some point. But the Roosters ride fast and long not much time to organise extra camera shots. 😂
Thanks so much mate, appreciate the comment! 🙏 Tracks are much easier in the Flinders, but it’s quite a bit more scenic! Very lucky and yeah, it takes a lot of time to set up the extra shots 😂🤣
Wow! Go Josh! I didn't know we had such beauty in our back yard. (I'm a dandy boy) Watta great ride. Great editting my bro. Wow! Wish I was there too.. Very inspiring 😎 stop twisting my arm to buy another bike... Arghhhhhh 😉
Thanks heaps man 🙏 I too didn’t know until my trip to the Flinders last year, but there is so much of Australia to explore that is amazing! Haha isn’t that the way man, the amount of bikes I’ve bought because of watching RU-vid vids hahaha
@@AusMoto Im still considering a vstrom for the romantic, take the missis adventures 😉 that's the other arm you've twisted.. Seed is planted hahahahaha
FANBLOODYTASTIC edit and ride Mate 😮👌 the little bikes did a great job and as reliable as ever 😎👍 cant wait for the next outing 🤔😁 keep well and ride safe-ish both you guys 😉🍺
Great vid/trip and awesome memories. Now for the Simpson! What Yamaha is that you are on? Like the strom waiting in the garage and I’ve got an older one and did Simpson on a wr450f, but don’t find it as good with the small oil capacity for big trips like yours
Great ride guys, nice footage. Would it be too much to ask for you to show on a map where your route is so us non-Austrailians could more easily appreciate where you rode?
Looked like a great ride guys. FYI, there are heaps of sand tracks to ride between Melbourne and Googs track. Murray Sunset np, big desert, little desert, the border track etc. I know it was your aim to challenge yourselves on googs, but the above May have been good practice. I also think you were too loaded up for the sand. Just advice, not criticism. See you on the trails 😎
Yeah, we’d been out to Little Desert once before but it’s hard to get out there because still quite a long way away. And as for the loaded, I think we packed the least amount we could for a two week trip, but we are always looking to optimise the setup! Thanks mate!
Impressed by your content! Your rides are so adventurous. 🌄 Could you share tips on battling fatigue during long rides and keeping yourself in top shape? Excited to know!
Epic adventure! Just wondering what the regulations are for lighting in downunder. Your headlights seem pretty weak for night riding... high powered lights not allowed? Or your bikes dont have nuff juice to power up a larger LED maybe?
Thanks heaps!! No regulations, it’s just the stock headlights on these bikes are like candles. After this trip, we’ve decided we need some auxiliary lighting haha!
Thank you! Unfortunately we didn’t keep track of costs but most nights were about $70 each when we were not camping. Fuel was probably $2-300 for the entire trip.
Great video Josh. Well done! I notice neither of you had any sort of wind protection (wind screen) on your bikes. Do you regret this at all? You certainly covered a lot of distance at 100kph. I'm planning a big trip on my 300L and I DON'T want to put a screen on like you guys. Am I mad?
Thanks Leigh! We both used to rock windscreens but both had damaged them on various rides previous to this one, so we decided not to run them. Especially on the 250l, when dropped in the sand, the extra pressure on the front cowling when digging into the sand/mud caused it to snap multiple times. You feel more wind on your chest for sure, but it’s manageable. The only thing that sucks is bug splatter on your phone/navigation but other then that it’s fine!
my LAWD! Absolutely amazing and that's it, I'm selling my KX 250F and getting a CRF 450RL. I don't do many track days anymore and the RL will handle the trails I ride. I could tell that there weren't enough words to describe the joy and fun yall were having. That ride home had to be brutal. That was a great video bud Question: Will you be making a vid on the maintenance practices yall did while on the road? Or was It just basic maintenance and mostly worry free? I only ask because I was told that an oil change is needed every 600 miles on a dual sport bike, but that seems a little excessive. Since I will likely be joining the dual sport world in the near future I am about to be doing a lot of research and question asking.
Thanks Dave! I wish they sold the RL here in Australia, because I probably would have bought one, they look like a great bike! I probably won't because it was just very basic, cleaning, lubing and adjusting chains. For the CRF, you'll need to change the oil more often then on something like a WR250R/CRF250L which have long service intervals, so it wasn't something we had to consider on this trip.
@@AusMoto Yeah it's weird to see all the different models but for some reason each country has their say so on what comes in and what doesn't. Okay that's good to know and I'm sure it made the trip that much more enjoyable. I could go on and on but those dunes were killer and looked like they tried to take yall out a time or 2 as well😃
Mate I did the Simpson on a 450 Yamaha and that was two oil changes starting and finishing at Marree. Should have been three really and mine holds 1.1 lt of oil. It’s the downside of these bikes and probably why so many like DRz. Chain lube is tricky in sandy situations and daily checks, even twice daily if you drop them. Rad guards pay for themselves very quickly.
Epic ride guys! Love it. Had no idea that kangas eat biscuits 😂. How did you find the bikes perform? Comfort? If yiu did this trip again, would you stick to same sized bikes or something bigger?
Thanks heaps mate! They did pretty well for little 250s. I think a trip like this is probably best suited for a middleweight ADV bike, as there was lots of HWY and open dirt roads. The trade off is that you'll struggle more through the sand on a heavier bike, but definitely doable. If I did it again though, I wouldn't hesitate to do it on the WR and I plan to use it for the Simpson crossing next year which is a similar trip.
@@AusMoto thanks buddy. Simson crossing will be epic. I just got a 1250 GS Adventure and not really sure if I am game to explore the Flinders with it yet. Just worried that it may be a little too big.
Flinders is prime riding for the bigger ADV bikes I reckon. Only a few tracks that are technical, the rest are just scenic picturesque dirt roads@@AdvExOz
What fuel range do you get from the safari tank? Currently have a ktm 890. Looking at getting a second bike - wr250r or drz 400. Had a drz before so know these bikes well but not the wr250r. Thanks.
Hey Gary, I unfortunately do not, I wasn't using GAIA at the time, just Google Maps (I now use GAIA for adventure planning and navigation) Here is a rough outline of the trip though, hopefully it helps plan your ride! Melbourne -> Adelaide -> Mt Ive Station -> Ceduna -> Googs Lake Campground -> Kingoonya -> Glendambo -> Roxby Downs -> Marree -> Arkaroola -> Hawker -> Mildura -> Melbourne
Hard to ride around the world when you got a job that’s not RU-vid champ. I’d consider 4300km’s in 9 days with a lot of off-road, a big ride in my books.
