Winter decided to settle in early this year, bringing my Fall series to an end for another year. I'm usually very hesitant to shoot in conditions like this, but my heart was stronger than my head, and I did what I could to try and make it work for me. I can clearly see room for improvement, but I'm happy with some of my shots, and I'm glad I decided to give it a try and embrace the challenge! Who knows, maybe I'll have more motivation to shoot in the winter after all!
Thank you to everyone who followed, watched, and commented on this year's Fall series, your support means the world to me! I had a blast filming the series this year, and I made a lot of images that I am really proud of! I already can't wait until next fall!
As always, you can see my favourite images from today's video on my IG page @jesshobbsphoto! Thanks for watching! ❤

Jess your enthusiasm is infectious and your look of wonderment in this video really encapsulates the feeling of being in the winter forest. Another great post and I feel you did the right thing sticking with colour on this shoot. I tend to shoot B/W during the winter too but the greens browns and blue hues have given your images more depth. It’s been a pleasure taking this journey with you thank you.

Nice finale to the fall season Jess. These heavy metal boxes are a real challenge to use in the winter on super cold days! Btw I used to see big flocks of snow geese wintering around New Jersey where I grew up. So beautiful.

Beautiful results! Embrace the chaos! Winter is my favourite time of year to photograph. Plenty of snow!

So glad you got out in the snow, the shots are amazing. You nailed the exposure which is so hard with all the white

Thank you so much, Anthony, I really appreciate that! The slide film shots didn't fare quite as well as the Ektar ones, they were really worked on in Lightroom after scanning, but I was honestly expecting that. I'm really happy with some of the Ektar ones though, so that film will always live in my bag!! Thanks for watching! ❤

Super. Enjoyed the Fall series. As a Floridian, the snow scenes were spectacular to see. We get hints of seasons. The snow geese shots were beautiful.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the series, it means a lot to me, Jack! Florida definitely looks different compared to Southern Quebec, although I'd love to explore the landscape down there one day! Thanks for watching! ❤

Thanks so much, Jim! I am glad I went out and tried, and it gives me the confidence to go back out there in these conditions again! I mean, winter lasts for months here, I might as well find ways to embrace it! Ironically, I adore winter and snow, just not photographing in it! 😆 Thanks for watching! ❤

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Once this deep freeze weather system passes through I'll hopefully feel brave enough to get outside, I'd love to explore the woods more in the winter, and the surrounding farmlands too! Thabks for watching! ❤

Thanks, John, I really appreciate that! I'm hoping once the deep freeze system passes I'll feel brave enough to get out there and embrace the winter season, although I'm not sure I'll do an entire series! Thanks for watching! ❤

Wow!! What a Winter Wonderland. Love the snow on the limbs. I don't know whether you're aware of it or not, but that beautiful red coat, your green backpack, and blue pants are all blending together to add a perfect natural RGB value to a white backdrop. As we say down here in Tennessee - "it don't git no better."

Yup, that was the plan! I'm glad it worked out! It was a total Winter Wonderland, hard to photograph, but so beautiful to experience! Thanks for watching! ❤️

Wonderful series. This is the type of conditions that I look for in the winter and, like you commented, I tend to shoot B&W, typically HP5+ for a flatter look. Love walking off-path too.

Thank so much, Julian! I do have to say that I was surprised at how much I liked the results from the colour films that day, I wasn't expecting that! I will be pulling the b&w out this winter too, but there might be a roll of colour from time to time mixed in! Thanks for watching! ❤

Jess so great to see you on again. I notice that you are using the Reveni spot meter. Matt really did a great job with that meter. i have his regular averaging meter also. I always like your episodes when you use your rb67. Hope you get to make several more video before you have to return attention to the farm!

Hello from Mexico! I’m glad your channel appeared during my searches, I really enjoyed the content, the style and the narrative of the episode, I love to see landscapes that are radically different to the landscapes where I live. Those Ektar colors really popped out among all the snow. The first scene of the geese flying, brought me back many years to a movie that I saw as a child call “Fly Away Home”. I instantly subscribed as soon as the video ended! Keep the good work!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words! Ektar is definitely a favourite colour film of mine, especially for how the colours pop in different scenes/conditions! Thanks for watching, and subscribing! ❤

I have followed many photographers over my 50 years of shooting film. Jess Hobbs is absolutely crushing it. I love hearing you on all the podcasts you participated in, I love the way you write and your RU-vid videos are phenomenal. You are definitely up and coming! I do have one question. I am also an owner of the Presspan. I'm curious what are your thoughts on the camera after using it for more than a year now? I absolutely love mine and I'm still fine tuning a little bit on creating great images. I have seen some of your images out of that camera and they are spectacular. Would love to hear back from you on your thoughts and experience with the Presspan.

Thank you so much for the kind words, David, this means the world to me! As for the PressPan, I am actually in the planning stages of a "1 year later" type video! I'm not entirely sure when it will be finished, but I am definitely going to be working on it in the coming weeks! I also had some fine-tuning to do, and I will be talking about that in the video, but if you have any specific questions you want to send me, please feel free! Thanks for watching! ❤

Nice video Jess, I notice you use the Reveni spot meter, do you recommend it? Easy to use or difficulty using it? Thank you again, and on a side note got myself the Bronica SQ-B!
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 2 года назад
Thanks, Bernard! I definitely recommend the Reveni spot meter, I am so happy to have one in my gear bag! I used to use a much bigger Soligor spot meter (designed after the Pentax models), which was good, but bulky... then it died, so enter the Reveni! I am planning a full review video on it soon. I meant to have a video done earlier, but the advantage for me was getting to use it a lot more throughout the fall, and now I have more to say about it! Congrats on the Bronica, that's fantastic news! I hope you love using it! Thanks for watching! ❤

@@JessHobbs Looking forward to seeing your review of the Reveni, just taken delivery of one myself. Did you meter for the highlights and set it to a particular zone for the slide film?
