Welcome on board the Qantas A380 on this very empty flight from Sydney to Hong Kong!
It is my first time to fly the Qantas A380. I go to do so on VH-OQL, the newest frame in the fleet but one that continues to have the old interiors.
And I didn’t mind at all as the experience was one of the best I’ve had.
The stars of the show are the Qantas staff, who from check in, lounge and in board were nothing but great to me and went the extra mile.
The day starts in the Qantas First Class Lounge, Sydney, where I have access thanks to my Emerald status with Oneworld. It is known to be one of the nicest lounges in the world and it did not disappoint! The views are some of the best I’ve seen at any airport.
On board the entire Qantas team treated me like one more family member and spoiled me once they found out about my passion for Aviation.
Crew Tim shares this passion with us and offered me a trip around the A380, giving me tons of info and facts that I did not know of at all. I’ll share some of that info on future A380 video’s!

What drove me mad was that woman and her friend who spoke loudly and cackled from when you started to taxi in Sydney. I'm glad I wasn't on that flight! I don't know why people can't just chat quietly and respect others who don't want to hear the conversation............

if this was QF127 on Wed 6th March 2024, I was on that flight. Nearly everyone had a row to themselves. The stewards had an easy flight and were very relaxed. it was a super flight.

I absolutely love your high quality and informative reports. Your so right in regards to crew, they make or break a flight! I have flown on some amazing Airlines with terrible cabin crew that ruined the entire trip but others where they made it one of the most enjoyable flights ever. Safe travels

Just come back from circle pacific flight. I have AA n Qf cancelled theirs flights. I’m supposed Syd/Lax/las/lax/Kia/Hkg/syd. My outbound flight is cancelled, put me in Fiji airways to SFO. Alaska SFO/LAS, the rest is delayed but coming back home fromHKG/SYD on QF Is cancelled. I’m on CX coming back. This is a joke half the airlines either is cancelled or delayed. Airlines still operating less than half what they used to be. Thanks to Coronavirus

Nice trip report! You got the vip treatment;)Had similar experiences these flights. Flew the same sectors last month. Qf127 was empty and we received the best service from crew in premium economy upstairs. Lucked out on the new configuration for syd-hk. Return on qf128 was chocka. Despite all the bad qf press recently both flights were fantastic and the crew were so friendly and genuine. Catering has definitely improved thankfully. Safe travels:)

I don't mind the Qantas A380 cause there's a lounge and self serve bar but when I recently caught the plane, it just felt so outdated both the old cabin and the refreshed cabin. Hopefully, project sunrise will change something, but until then, I'll sorta avoid qantas

Hey there, sorry to hear. I don’t hide comments unless it is offensive, which happened only once or twice. Keep in mind that RU-vid themselves automatically hide a big chunk of comments if they find something inappropriate. While 90% of the time they get it right, another 10% is purely innocent comments. There is a whole folder here where I can see them but I rather don’t open it as it is very vulgar, with hatred or political stuff. I think you might have landed there!

Not liking Tim Tams? Blasphemy! 😂 Jokes aside, glad to see you had a great flight to HKG on QF. I was on it recently flying J and it was also empty that I managed to get the First Class seat with no problem! I'm not a fan of the designs of the cutlery in the lounge either, it's an already outdated design but they are in the process of replacing them (hopefully for the better) Glad you had a great flight and at least in my experiences as a Qantas Frequent Flyer, the crew are generally a pleasure to fly with. As always a great trip report!

Hey Abdullah! Once I can fully live from RU-vid I’ll tell everything. Many companies don’t like it when you’re a publicly known person when you’re already exclusive to them. Very few what Sam Chui was doing prior to RU-vid, but he was also traveling a lot! I think I know though.. So anyway, I do represent a big company. I also travel for fun or with my family. Qantas A380 was an interesting product to review on this channel! I am confused how some flights to Hong Kong are empty like the Cathay Pacific one from Kuala Lumpur. The airlines have to bear huge losses too

It’s just a seasonal thing.. And much of the empty flights on this channel are not a coincidence.. I book them on purpose! The routes are likely profitable, it’s just the season. In my case it was Chinese New Year. The flight back was overbooked.

My wife and I traveled melb to HK 10 years ago, to my disappointment it wasn’t the a380. It was the a330 both ways. In 2 weeks we’re going again, information says a350-900 so missed again😆 The a380 looks awesome!…

Junior is great, thanks for asking! We flew a lot in the past weeks as had leave. Lots of flights filmed but not sure if I’ll publish them all. We flew LOT, KLM, Qatar Airways and EK. I am glad you had a good flight with Qantas. Can you plz confirm that it was not a complimentary flight, as unlike you my flight to Singapore was not the best, and I flew business. To begin with my a380 flight was 4 hours delayed, and I was in the business lounge, which is nothing like the first class lounge ... dated and overcrowded. Also, service, including food, in the flight was pretty ordinary. Hands down Singapore Airlines service is a thousand times better in every possible way.

You could hardly have had a better day to show off my city on departure. I may have even been watching you in person from my favourite spotting location above the Rydges hotel. The empty plane may have been the time of year or just that economy demand hasn’t returned, although Cathay is back to 3x daily on the route. Looks like excellent service onboard from the oft criticised(by Aussies) Qantas. My wife’s watching with me and said “don’t tell him we flush our toilets with Jacob’s creek sparking ;)

Tough question, I like so many.. Emirates, Qatar, Virgin, Qantas, Singapore.. But I even had many great experiences on British Airways as well so my list is long!

Love all your productions and your knowledge of planes. I travel about twice a year from Glasgow to Dubai on A380, my favoured plane. I try to use Business class when possible. On the Glasgow to Dubai Emirates configuration what do you recommend as your window seat preference. Kindest Regards

Thanks for the kind words! Glasgow to Dubai I would like a seat on the right hand side as the odds of having better views are best. For me the perfect seats would be 7K, 9K, 23K or 25K, just view wise. Otherwise all seats are fine. But A and K seats are the best for solo travelers!

And looking at all your recent comments which I always screen before I put my own comment in, consider yourself proud! Thank you yet again for the kind words Flip! I am proud indeed. It is nice to find a whole bunch of other people that enjoy the very same as you do.. At one point in life I also found myself reading travel articles, pictures and blogs (no RU-vid back then) from others and dreamt of that very same life. I actually followed Sam Chui’s blogs way before he became famous. He had some very interesting stories. The lady in the beginning was very loud indeed. I am glad I moved seats as I was initially seated right behind her! Have a great one Flip!

Funny thing is that Qantas also used to stop in Dubai on flights to London, and they used Terminal 3 Concourse A, using the Airbus A380, making them the only non-Emirates A380 operator at T3 at DXB. It’s a shame they don’t fly to Dubai anymore.

As one who flies with Emirates I can understand the attraction of Dubai and its A380 terminal. But for Qantas passengers there was greater preference for Singapore Changi airport.
