WRITING/WORK STUFF
Macbook Air. Doesn’t really need my recommendation. amzn.to/3soroc2
iPAPA laptop case: amzn.to/3slflwf
Mind-Reader adjustable/portable laptop desk. I LOVE this thing. Typing with my arms at an angle has drastically reduced elbow/wrist pain. amzn.to/2OYh0tX
Bluelight blocker glasses: amzn.to/2VAG51u
Best writing pens, hands down. I use them every time I revise a book. amzn.to/311nRoP
Acer monitor. I kind of hate the word gamechanger but this really was that kind of purchase. amzn.to/3vH71Kh
Brother laser printer. I won’t lie, this thing is a behemoth. But I’ve had it since 2017 and I think I’ve had maybe one paper jam? It works great, it’s super consistent, A++ for printing manuscripts. amzn.to/3tzIvZE
Alphasmart Neo2. Highly highly recommend. amzn.to/3cStKui
I'm a Skillshare Ambassador! I've been binging their courses on filmmaking and video editing, as well as writing, but there's all kinds of stuff for creative types! Try it out FREE for two week! skillshare.eqcm.net/RyG57R

VIDEO MAKING STUFF
Canon G7X Mark iii camera. I love the flip up screen (ie, you can see yourself as you film) and the fact that there’s a mic port. amzn.to/3r9BfCb
Savage studio lights. I mostly use these for ‘talking head’ videos. amzn.to/3r7G6Un
Ubeesize 10” ring light. That’s the little guy sitting on my desk. I mostly use it for vlogging. amzn.to/31hqpzD
JJC mini tripod. amzn.to/3feXxjJ
Rode clip mic. amzn.to/2OSaLb2

Rewrites resistance is something I struggle with a lot too. What I have found has helped me is to approach a re-write, not a chucking what I had before, but writing an alternative than I will compare with the original and decide which ones is better, even though 10/10 times I keep the we-write! Once I've written the second version, it soooo much easier to let go of the old one when I know that its definitely the better version

Writing an alternative - that's such a great mindset! I love that.

Oh wow, I didn't even know the SJM thing, but I agree that it's low-key predatory. I'm a bit worried abt the backlash she's gonna get, seeing how most people don't know that authors have little to no control when it comes to marketing and special editions. I'm not a fan of her, but it's just frustrating to see this industry constantly prey on readers and writers alike. Anyways, great video as always! I'm familiar with the Rebel Girls franchise and I'm excited to see you join them!

No no. No. No. We are not going to pretend a cash cow like Sarah J Maas is poor little victim of the big bad publishing industry here. The woman is a brand of her own and no one is going to convince me she doesn't have the power to veto this. She is not a newbie or a midlist author or even upper midlist. She is a power house and she getting paid for those bonus scenes and she is totally complicit. She could sic her rabid army on her publishers for any reason she saw fit and backlash would be so swift her publishers would back down.

Wow, congratulations all around! 😊 I have a similar issue with my work in progress: it starts off with a bang, has a good pace for the first 2/3, but now I am writing what I feel is the necessary backstory and dramatic telling of what is really going on… But while the character who is speaking is motivated to tell all this, and the main character has motivation to hear it, and while it's important to the series - this actual novel doesn't need it, and so it's a wedge of four slow chapters just before the wham bam conclusion.

Thanks so much, Paul! :) And yeah, working that kind of stuff in is one of the hardest parts of drafting, imo!

So exciting, Michelle! Haven't written in a few months and I'm not really sure why. Hopefully, I can get back into the groove. Seeing your progress does motivate me though. Have a great weekend, Michelle! Hi Rosa :-)

All I can think is "wow, that is a lot going on!". I would be so stressed juggling all that, but man is it worth it. And that rejection emailing for the book packager? That's gotta be a really humbling experience seeing things from that side of things, and it makes me wonder if each querying author (Especially the entitled ones) did a stint working like that (the reading and rejecting) if they'd calm down and understand it wasn't personal when it happens to them. Yikes. As for the Sarah J Maas bit, i couldn't help but think that if this was really for the readers and not just a money grab, she could've released the bonus chapters in a companion guide like Stephenie Meyer did for Twilight, along with giving her readers background info, worldbuilding and all that other stuff we as authors come up with despite knowing most of it'll never see the light of day. That'd be a whole lot better. She could still release the fancy special editions, but instead the fans could choose by cover rather than content. And if someone wanted the whole set, great. But unless libraries are forking out for all the special editions and making sure to catalogue them separate from the main title so patrons can take out exactly what they want (rather than the standard edition), I doubt a lot of people are going to be able to enjoy all the bonus content. As for my own writing? I'm in the 75k portion of the last book of my trilogy and got a while more to go before it's over. Making me wonder if I can take from the start of this book and tack it onto the end of book 2 to make up for that shockingly low (for me) 78k. But we'll see. Everything with this book is starting to feel like a ball of stress and is triggering my self doubt to the point of my brain questioning my skills so hard it's making me doubt that I can string together coherent sentences let alone a book!😂😭😵 Which leads me to your non-fiction topic and my guess of anxiety or rejection sensitive dysphoria. 😅 Anyway, I hope everything is going well for you and that you have a stress free weekend. And thank you for posting the absolute cuteness of Rosa puppy! I wish I knew what was going on in her mind with that stick, because that was too adorable. (Plus, yay, she has a back yard to go wild in!❤)
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor 11 месяцев назад
Yep, I'm with you on that one - there were so many other options that would be fun and not a money grab. Ahh you're in the self-doubt phase of drafting!! We've all been there :) No worries, you've got this!! It's totally normal to doubt your skills at this stage, but you just have to keep going. (Also LOL you are pretty spot on with your non-fiction guess!! :) Nothing makes Rosa happier than a giant stick hehe Hope you have a great weekend too!
