You should definitely watch chronicle from 2012. It’s another evil superhero movie with some amazing camera work and twists. It’s pretty dark and gory like this movie. Definitely in my top 5 favorite movies. It’s so hard to describe how much of good movie it is.

This is a classic Nature v. Nurture story. In this case Nature won out, when he's talking about the wasps he's basically speaking about himself and his species.

I don't think it's that he's possessed, it's just that he suddenly realised that he had powers, as compared to Clark Kent whose parents were aware of them and worked with him to teach him humility.

I think the ship that brought him to Earth also is influencing him to be awakened to his species' true nature. Brightburn reminds me of Earth-3 Ultraman.

Brightburn was supposed to be the start to like a dark "hero" universe but it never got picked up. In the movie near the end I think there was references to other heroes like an aquatic creature who was supposed to be a parallel to aquaman and a witch who was a parallel to wonder woman. The whole universe was supposed to be a dark parallel to the justice league

This was Bizarro Superman origin story, kinda... He wasn't suddenly possessed. Just like when Clark Kent was a kid and reached a certain age, the crystals in his ship started reaching out to him. When he found his earthly parents explained what happened, but he had greatness instilled from Krypton in him and had loving upbringing so, he became the Superman that fought evil. On the other side we have BB that has the darkness in him. He is not the son Jarel, but a clone of Superboy that was pseudo-made by Zod . His weakness is blue kryptonite, whereas Superman's is Green kryptonite

I always thought the best explanation for what Brandon is...is in the scene where he's talking about wasps being predators. It's kinda obvious that Brandon is not from Krypton...or at least not the Krypton we now of. Rather a Kryptonian species that intentionally send their young out into the galaxy to asses and destroy potential threats or inferior species and that when the young reach the age of 12 earth years their technology activates the part of their DNA and therefore gives the the abilities to carry out their "mission". Brandon is basically a super powerful predator drone and his race are like an advanced humanoid invasion hive....at least that"s what I get from the film.

My initial last thought, had the mom revealed she had the shard, told him you'll always be my son. I'll always love you, no matter what happens and what you do. You're perfect. And drop the shard, and embraced him. This would be been a totally different ending.

I love this movie, as in LOVE. Bizarro Superman meets The X- Men meets We Need To Talk About Kevin meets The Omen meets Michael Myers. It’s got it all. And that ending?? DARK AF. Yet it’s criminally underrated when it’s such a unique and well done supernatural horror film. Want them to make a sequel so badly. 🙏

You didn’t show it so I don’t know if you saw it, but in the news clips at the end they mentioned two other evil/monster characters have been cited that were counterparts to Aquaman and Wonder Woman. So if they did a sequel they could even do an evil “Justice League”

There has been a few that end like this. The closest I would say to this is probably "the Omen". That is a movie you should definitely watch if you haven't. But the twisted superman story has been done in comics and TV a few times but never in a movie until this. I haven't heard of an upcoming sequel but it definitely was set up. I really don't know why it didn't happen.

The ending of this movie confirms that this is set in the same universe as another of James Gunn's films called 'Super' from 2010 starring Rainn Wilson and Elliot Paige which was a black comedy action film similar to Kick-Ass. I highly recommend it.

One way to do a 2 parter for Brightburn, is to have distant relatives from a big metropolis town adopt the boy into a nice family and watch chaos pursue from it. Hence, a new dead family.

The feel kinda reminds me of Chronicle. Found footage thriller about kids who find some alien shit in a cave and it gives them powers, and one of them goes bad. IIRC Dane Dehaan is on there.

This shit is why Batman is paranoid and made plans like he did to stop his teammates should they ever go rogue on purpose or suffer effects of mind control. But I do not think even Batman could stop Brandon. Brandon is what happens if Superman didn't hold back. I love Batman to death but lets be real: Superman could KILL him in a split second! Brandon, Omni-Man and Homelander are the results of what happens if heroes like Superman went to the dark side man and it's scary to think about!

You should watch Super. It is a canonical prequell to Brightburn. Even if it may not seem like it. It was confirmed by James Gunn. BB even has a reference to "Super"s main protagonist, Frank Darbo aka The Crimson Bolt! It is quirky but crazy and does tie in certain things. Especially the cuthulian race that send Brandon to earth! Because they interfeered with Franks evolution aswell.

I think of this movie as Omen + Man of steel with a smidge of Jason thrown in. Fun fact James Gunn who's also the director of the guardians of the Galaxy movies was going to get fired from doing guardians of the Galaxy 2 because of some old tweets. So, in the interim while the other actors of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 were telling marvel that they were making a mistake firing James Gunn and were fighting to keep him on as the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director, he did this as a fu to the superhero genre. James Gunn's Brothers wrote it and the kid that played Brandon is actually James Gunn's son.

You should watch super(2010) it's also made by James gunn and features in the same universe as brightburn which is confirmed by gunn. There's also a small cameo from the guy in super in this movie which also confirms it.

I remember watching this movie at theaters and it made a experience scary and intense. 😬 as the movie shakes when Brandon jump-scares happen. Also this movie give off “The Boys” meet Darker universe DC. With that said, check out the comic series as it seems darker.

I think the reason he became evil instead of good because he was treated as a loser and a freak by everyone in school and outside of school and he is just a kid and when he found out he was not human it gives mix emotions since he is a kid and treated bad by everyone except him his mom only and kids can be a little crazy if there parents don't support him and the reason the boy didn't kill the mom until the ending because he trusted her since she didn't treat him as a monster until she tried to kill him

This was going to setup evil horror super humans franchise but the reviews from critics and audiences wasn’t good. That is why we don’t get anymore movies like this

I heard that they will be making a sequel in the future called Dark Justice League with younger versions of the Justice League members along with Brandon to terrorize the world.
