They rlly need a community manager. Before watching this vid, I thought the dev team was just lazy and/or incompetent, but now I see why things are so difficult. But not a whole lot of ppl will see this vid, so many ppl will still have the same opinion I used to have unless someone can come out and make a statement

So strange that the largest server in Minecraft is running on a 10 year old version of the game. This is a huge problem because newer players are alienated and will naturally gravitate towards servers that are running on the latest versions. A full-scale Hypixel version update is imperative for their continued success. After working for Hypixel myself, I’m very confident in the team’s ability to innovate, despite their constraints. I thought Hytale would be their way to break out of the box Mojang put them in, but God only knows when/if that’s gonna happen. I’m sure they’ll find a way.

11:10 completely agree. When Hytale was first announced, I thought they would migrate all of Hypixel including SkyBlock into it. It make complete sense to me, you get better graphics, more freedom, and lose all the problems associated with 1.8 minecraft but they never did

He says a community manager would be pointless because a lot of the information would go over players heads, but thats the point of a community manager. a community manager knows how to take the jargon that devs speak with (like "tech debt") and turn it into understandable messages (old code needs to be updated before new systems can be built). a community manager's job includes making whats going on understandable to the average player/user. he's thinking of a community manager as somebody that just releases statements, but a community manager does more than that.

I may pass as a hater, but then why didn't they tell us ? I doubt they need a CM or someone paid to communicate with the community to just make a part in 2023 resume about what they're struggling with. Hypixel Skyblock dev/admin team is mostly bashed because they say they would do things, and the only things we see are just... nothingness and deceptions. We were told foraging update for years now, and we haven't even been told what they're struggling on. Now that Dueces came in and clarified the issue with Tech Debt, I think it'll allow the playerbase to be much more at ease and less demanding for updates every time a new patch note for a minor update is posted. Now that I think about it, I feel dumb to not think "Hypixel is more than 10 yo, OF COURSE they had to update the code to make new content and hypixel is just massive" and just thinking sh*t of what the devs are doing for foraging update, and i'm sure a lot of people are like me. But once again, it doesn't justify that we didn't even have any hint on what the admins are doing AT ALL. It's almost sad and really bad that an ex-admin had to make the clarifications on what the devs are having problems with... Hope the admins will actually talk to us, even in really stupidly simplified language. It'd also put A LOT LESS pressure on them (I strongly think that them wanting to release the first foraging island on alpha early is due to the pressure of the community. You CANNOT change my mind.) and actually let them work in peace. A dev with a peaceful mind working on regular hours will be always better than an overworked pressured dev.

About the EU servers skyblock is highly cooperative meaning if they split the servers between US and EU less players on either one which makes gameplay a lot harder

Old games that are still updated 10+ years later all face the old code issue, and everyone kinda just has to get used to it and expect that's a huge reason stuff takes so long. But most people will never understand that.

This is what we needed, something to clear the waters and give us just the smallest reason of why this takes so long. I’m not saying it saves then completely but this still helps with just reassuring me that work is happening

Btw they could operate the system just like wynncraft, which would easily work for recources etc, but it would massively impact plugins, but it would profit all parts of the server

good video! to me u seem to know alot about hypixel problems/news. Do u know anything about connections issues/ heavy lags ppl sometimes get? they just come and go randomly and the weird part is, that it actually fixes the issues by swaping to another account. when it happens, the account i was playing on is heavyly lagging/ puting me in limbo etc for 30 min+ while i can play on another without any problems even if i swap back. the exact same happens to a friend of mine. Its not a connection issue from my side as i can play on other servers. and since i can play on another account it cant be a global server issue. lobby swaping wont help aswell, its like as if the account is fked for a period of time. Any ideas?

hypixel making hytale is my most waited game right now just for the fact that they could make skyblock in it so much faster than minecraft with it being made to add gamemodes like this

For Hypixel to update to newer versions, it would be easier to do a whole rewrite on a newer version than to update old code that has a huge amount of tech debt.

I’ve been saying this for years, they need to make skyblock into a Minecraft mod that they can either sell or have for download on their website

like dueces said, I really hope they remake skyblock in a different engine. I've always figured that Hytale would be PERFECT to move the game to (assuming it's likely to come out in a while)

I always thought I would be cool if hytale would release then hypixel puts skyblock on it as a main game mode. The whole game would be in c++ rather than java. They could make anything they wanted while keeping the Minecraft feel

im not suprised hypixel devs get harassed. this is the minecraft community. where you get called a "Mojang meat rider" for explaining how coding works. and where people give the most unfair criticism possible towards mojang and minecraft server devs

how is hypixel not able to get a CM, with the amount of fire sales they’ve been doing. like i understand taxes and having to pay a percentage to tebex (the company that deals with hypixel purchases) but i feel like some of those funds could go into something like that. maybe im just clueless. i’m sure maintaining the server is a fortune. but still, just an idea

Tech debt really is annoying. As a git developer, every time I take on an old repository, there’s like 100+ vulnerabilities and a dozen dependencies that I have to update just to get it running, and this can really take up a lot of time

i think another good reason the dev's don't mention what they are working on in detail any more is the amount of malicious activity in the game, there are literally people connecting with hacked accounts run directly from servers near hypixel hq to be able to instantly bazaar flip before an item even comes off cooldown. if people with the coding ability to do this can see exactly how the back end of hypixel servers work who knows what other malicious activities they could do

I think people forget that Minecraft was built by Mojang. Not the tech billionaire Microsoft - Mojang, Mojang the game development team consisting of one guy in his basement who knew how to code Java so that's what he used. Also the limitations there were back then aren't there anymore. Over time the game "spagettified" itself because now with much easier to use coding languages, Java itself is getting less used, mainly due to the archaic way it needs to be written, and probably a lack of respect for the DRY principle when minecraft was first created because nobody, and least of all notch, thought this game would be as popular as it is. RuneScape was also written in Java too, and no major newer games have been written in it since Minecraft.

11:06 I agree, in fact i think if Hytale somehow actually releases, Hypixel Skyblock should be the first thing transferred to it. The only thing i don't like about Hytale now is that they're trying to make it cross-platform, but that adds A LOT of technical difficulties and you just can't make a PC game work as good on mobile. Don't forget about mobile players being mostly casuals and PC gamers has a lot higher % of tryhards

A lot of servers just dont switch to 1.20 they stick with 1.8 ive always admired hypixel for not doing that but yeah maybe they can make it so you just cant access that island unless its on it but yeah i understand anyway

I honestly wouldn’t care if they moved the game and created it in unreal, it’s nice that it’s in Minecraft but if they did it correctly I would still love skyblock

I disagree with them not communicating because "the playerbase wouldn't understand", there will be people who will blindly scream in rage due to lack of the update, yes, but the rest of the community, 90% of them would probably understand why. I also think they should split up the foraging update like how mojang did caves and cliffs, the community gets to see *some* progress being made, and the other half can come in at a later time to satisfy everyone

Considering Deuces' response to EU servers, do the admins think that 98% of their playerbase is all US? because it has to be like 40% US, 50% EU and 10% other imo

What makes me sad is that there are just so many small issues that make Hypixel so unbearably bad. For example, people get false banned in such an extreme high amount that some people don't even see worth in playing the game. This is just horrible. I personally think a better thing to ask about was the appeal system, but I understand not asking coming from your perspective. I really hope this is an issue that gets tackled soon, because the auto denies are just too unprofessional.

I feel like fewer people should assume dev incompetence when it comes to updates for games like this. Both hypixel and minecraft are OLD, so a lot can be chalked down to "tech debt" as stated in the video, times change, and even if they didn't you still have to consider years of modifications and additions. I guess "dev incompetence" has become so rampant in newer releases that it's affecting older games as well now :(

I don't get why people hate on the admins/devs for taking a long time for an update. Sure we as players want to play new things but except for the top 20 players (SB lvl 430) there is a lot to do. Personally I would rather wait for the foraging update even if it comes in 2025 if it means that it will basically be perfect except for bugs and exploits. There has to be a balance between the content coming out being fast or good. If you want new content fast, it will be shit. If you want it to be good it will take a long time, such as Dungeons, but I mostly chalk that up to Simon announcing it way too early. You can't have both, if the team of devs are ~30, I argue that it's way more tho, it will take them some time to work on updates and new content. We can have the update out tmr but it will most definitely be shit with many parts missing but we also don't want to wait till 2026. I respect the devs who have previously worked and who currently work on SB and the time that they put in, and I'm glad that they made a game that is enjoyable to many.

imo yea they should add some people that are more on the playerbase side. if you get banned falsely or not as a normal player you fucked, unless youre a youtuber or a celebrity
