What an amazing interview. The whole time, I felt like I was listening to Queen Elizabeth's speech, but she is an Ethiopian queen sharing her great life experiences. She is so pretty and elegant. I wish I had a fraction of this beauty 😂. It's saddening to see Ethiopia transition from such an incredible, educated, and beautiful generation to one that's struggling like farm animals.

What a beautiful, intelligent, modest and articulate lady! Many thanks for Qetstelaworq for hosting and producing the interview with her aunt. I winder if lady Sophia Yilma wrote a memoire? If she didn’t you should importune with her until she consented. Alternatively, someone can simply record informal chats with her. That would be a great service to Ethiopia, not only to herself and her illustrious family.

The guest is very knowledgeable, so she has a lot to share to the new generation. We expect more from her. What was her father's interest in Egyptology? I wish she continued the subject matter a bit more. Did he write any article on it? Please, let her say whatever she knows on his Egyptology since your program is called Afreeqa. Your family is a great one from whom we can learn a lot. Nothing should hold you back from inviting your family members.

Here are suggestions for the presenter: 1/ translate this and similar materials into Amharic for a wider audience 2/ get professionals from variety of disciplines (history, politics, literature, etc) to forward questions for Woizero Sophia to respond to; a lot is being left out because of time and vastness of the subject matter 3/ raise funds to organize and document Solomon Deressa's life and work (as journalist, art critic, man of letters, poet, philosopher). Please respond if and when you read this comment.

what a woman and what an intersting family history of the time when in Ethiopia -there were trying to instill art and knowledge not only to men but also to women... this not only at high levels but it happened in state schools where civic education was taught but even agriculture was a subject in elementary school and every student had a plot of land where he could gain agricultural experience

Someone shared this interview, and I'm grateful I had the chance to watch it. It's not just a story, it's a deeply emotional journey that fills the gaps in our history books. The narrative of your family is a poignant part of Ethiopia's story. Despite the unimaginable hardships, I was deeply moved by the humility, grace, and joy that shone through your words. This opportunity to witness greatness is a true gift. Thank you, Mrs. Sophia Yilma, for your profound contribution to our Ethiopia. You embody the Ethiopia I hold dear and envision every day and thank you to the host. የኃላዉ ከሌለ የለም የፊቱ!

What a distinguished family, with what could have been Ethiopia's asset for development. Of course, Dergue had made sure that Ethiopia would lose this human capital. To think that the architect of Ethiopia's destruction is now enjoying a lavish life.

- Sophia Yilma, a pioneering journalist, shares her family's history and personal journey in an exclusive interview. - She recounts her grandfather's legacy as Dr. Martin, who had 13 children, some of whom were killed during the Italian War. - Sophia herself experienced imprisonment along with her mother, enduring harsh conditions for seven months. - Despite personal tragedies, Sophia pursued a career in journalism, eventually working for Ethiopian telecommunications. - Her family's achievements include her sisters' successes, with one working for the New York Times and another becoming a renowned filmmaker.

I like the show both the guest and the host. The host Madam Sophia Yilma comes from amazingly contrasting lineage,Wollega Oromo aristocracy ( Lij Yilma), Shewa Oromo nobility(Ketsela Tulu) and Gonder Amhara Mekdela Brutish war captive Dr Martin (Hakim Workneh). The family products of the failed assemilation policy of Imperial Ethiopia.

The time where Ethiopia tilted to the darkness and until now no sign of return to the normal position. A history of misery since the time of Derg until present. It seems the generation born for suffering. A reminder of mixed memories good and bad. Wishing Sophia to live longer!

The current events surrounding the blended mixed families history tend to undermine their contributions and sacrifices for Ethiopia. Your family history testifies to the proven facts the previous generations put the country and people first . The current regime priorities enforcement of the discriminations based on ethnic and ethnicity aparthied system inside Ethiopia.
