Just want to say a big thanks to all that have shared their opinions on this. I was unsure what sort of reaction i'd get, so i'm glad the majority of you would've made the same move regarding the issue, giving me peace of mind that I was in the right. Thanks for your continued support!

That's rough on the football boots return. 20 year old boots carry high risk on selling - you'll get a much higher price as they're highly sought after, but they have to be sold as collectables only with clear warnings to wear at your own risk. Even then, the issue with selling such items on eBay is that if the buyer ignores that and wears them and they break then eBay won't care what you wrote in the listing, and will still make you liable for the refund. Whereas specialist websites that sell classic football boots will actually advise they can't refund or replace boots older than 5 years old that are damaged through wear or use due to their age.
@JammyDodgerFlips
@JammyDodgerFlips 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, that’s it exactly, even if I mentioned they were collectors boots, they would still be able to get their refund. Good shout on selling through other dedicated websites for these, maybe I’ll do that in the future. Thanks 😊

Refund, forget about it. Move on. All you really lost was the purchase price and shipping and you got a video idea out of it. Refunds happen, build the possibility for them into your business plan. Never let it ruin your day, not worth it. When I have to refund I always straight away try and list something of the same value. Just makes me feel better that the money will hopefully be coming in again soon.

Thanks! And yes very true, maybe the video will go viral and pay for the losses 😅 I always expect things like this to happen, felt a lot better just getting the refund sent and being done with it, knowing the buyer was partially satisfied.

Shoes that are old will just fall to pieces when used, even if they're in a good state, because just thats what shoes do after a while. Maybe add a disclaimer that old shoes may fall to pieces if used and should be a collectors purchase.

You did the right thing. You made the return easy. But with your accounts that would be an inventory write off. So you will gain in the losses from the financial year. Log all your losses and you will pay less tax. Keep all your returns slips and invoice of selling to prove it. It’s the customers purchase price not your buying price that will be the accounting losses.

For the older trainers, you should write “probably best to have them for show due to age of the trainers” that way you’ve covered your back. I collect trainers and wouldn’t ever wear any of the OGs. The soles won’t last 5 minutes. A lot of trainers you can put in a box in the loft and after so long you open the box and they just crumble as soon as you pick them up

The buyer has messaged me to say that they lasted less than 30 minutes (all the blades/studs have cracked and come off) and they have requested a return. Hi, I've been watching your channel for a few months and really enjoying your honest and informative content. You appear to sell a lot of trainers. Do you always put a best offer on your listings? What in your experience is the best strategy to get a good turnover of stock but to still get decent prices? I have been reading on Ebay forums for months about sellers complaining about very low sales, why do you think you are doing well in the current financial climate? Thanks
@JammyDodgerFlips
@JammyDodgerFlips 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching, yep only sourcing/selling trainers & shoes currently. Best offer comes in to play after about a week of it being listed & unsold. Low sales are usually due to poor pricing, pictures, descriptions etc… one of the main things people do is fill their shops up with stuff people don’t actually want, so it sits for a while. Find the items that sell fast, then you’ll see an increase of sales. I currently only sit at 200 listed. But sell around 150-200 monthly. I’m seeing more sales now than I was at 350 listed everything random items. To answer the last question, shoe sales are going well because people currently struggle to afford brand new shoes, so go to sites such as eBay to buy as good as new but at a fraction of the cost. Hope this helps 😊

Wow! Some great insight and tips there, thanks. Out of interest, I've noticed on your video's that when you go to car boot sales you take the slow and steady approach, looking at each table and buying as you go. I have always tended to have a very quick scan look around first as i am mainly interested in a particular type of item, and then go slow and steady after. Any thoughts on which style you think is most effective?, as I think you go to a lot more and more regularly than me. Keep up with the great content!

I don’t ask for a return unless I think they are being dodgy. My friend sold a very expensive figurine. Had a photo sent of it broken, said it arrived like that. Friend asked for a return, he puts a secret mark on each piece he sells, lo and behold it was not the same piece. Unfortunately they raised a case and they were paid out. Great vid. Not criticising your decision at all, but we always only operate a ‘return for refund’ only policy. The photos wouldn’t be clear enough evidence for me. £4 return postage to find out is always worth it IMO.

@JammyDodgerFlips 5 месяцев назад
Thanks! The pictures I showed in the video were just a select few from the 10 or so he sent. There were slight imperfections that matched my boots in the listing 100%. So to avoid a negative, give an overall positive outcome for the buyer, I decided to refund right away and be done with it. In any other cases I would get them to return, but I just couldn’t see the benefit of it in this case & just got it sorted right away. I know it’s not the end of the world but a negative feedback would probably have come if I’d asked him to return, and then be stuck on the account for a year, reminding me of this months in the future, I’m sure I made the right call. Thanks for watching & appreciate your thoughts on it 😊
@Married2Reselling
@Married2Reselling 5 месяцев назад
@@JammyDodgerFlips I get it, but you should never take an action specifically to avoid the chance of negative feedback. The moment you release yourself from that prison, the reselling game changes. The customer can still have a positive experience, even with a return. You said yourself, the boots looked brand new, we’re 20 years old BUT this can happen. The buyer could also understand that this can happen. For a £100 item I’m calling their bluff, can’t be training buyers that instant refunds are easy - even if they were being honest, which there’s every chance. Did you get your money back from Vinted? Tbf, if you know anything about trainers/sneakers, shoes from that age if left for so long will always perish. Would never wear a 20 year old pair of shoes like that especially to play football in. You’ve done nothing wrong and really shouldn’t have had to refund him imo

Yeah agree with you, but unfortunately all part of the game when you have a business account, refunds/returns need to be accepted. It’s no harm done and a lesson learned to properly check my boots before selling!

Sounds dodgy, there’s a lot of those people and stupid people out there but the good outweighs the bad so chin up and continue! It’s good to be a trader it’s as exciting as buying. However I only buy at the moment I’m a next level antique hunter!

Ps I collected nothing to do with my main interests a selection of vintage Italian boxed walking boots scarpa and zamberlan 40 years old, sooo I know all about this subject.

Great 😃 video 🎥! I like these raw and real episodes. I would have offered a partial refund to the buyer. Good sales and some nice finds on Vinted especially the Royal Mail 📬 Doc's 😊🎉

Thanks Ally, yeah loved the DM’s! If I did a partial, unfortunately the buyer would have just got angry, probably left a negative and ended up getting the full refund from eBay. It’s not fair for us business sellers sometimes 😢

I’d add some more pictures to your listings, take a bit more time showing the items clearer. Other than that, add more listings, and the shop will start to gain traction & sales will come!
