I started out with a roland d-10 and midi and a pc, with cakewalk sequencer in 89, then later I was customizing patches using an editor and making libraries of my own sounds, and each patch consisted of either 4 or 8 part tones , which I edited, so this brings me back
Excellent, described really well, I successfully did everything you did, and happened to have a midi to USB cable and recently installed editor for free, I am excited to delve into the machines again
Ha ha ! You spotted it ! I also spotted that .... but only afterwards ... such is the fun and mystery of exploration ! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment ! Best regards
Hey man thanks for putting up this great explenation, i followed all the instructions and even tried it with usb but unfortunatly I keep getting the unable to read/write data message. Ive tried different midi channels and with usb I turnt on the usb midi modus in system. nothing worked. My windows 10 doesnt like the supported driver to. maybe my mc808 is faulty or something can I do a hard reset or something? thanks in advance!
Hi there. Thanks for your kind words. As you see in the video, I used a Yamaha UX16 usb to midi cable, to connect the MC808 to the PC. The Yamaha cable is a very reliable cable - the UX16 cable does not need any windows drivers because it is a 'class compliant' device. I have experienced failures with other makes of cables. If you use a cheaper USB to MIDI cable, you may not be able to read or write data. What MIDI to USB cable did you use?
@@1heUndertaker I used midi on my tascam us-122mk2 soundcard, and also tried to connect with usb only direct to the computer without midi. Ive used the tascams midi before on my sp 808 to update to the ex version and it worked. Maybe one of the midi cables is faulty. When connected direct with usb to my computer windows recononises the mc808 but I can not update the driver and the editor program doesnt see it.
@@Manjarow Ok, unfortunately I do not know anything about the tascam us-122mk2 soundcard. Many different settings and software may cause problems with MIDI communication. I am not an expert, and I do not know your level of understanding about MIDI. Hopefully, there will be a solution to your problem, and we may find it ! Are you on facebook? I wonder if we could use a live chat type program like Messenger, to check and work through solutions?
@1heUndertaker in what mode should I connect to the computer r? I can change catagory and change the instruments but still get the message unable to read write, tried different cable, still no sollution. Direct t connection to usb should work also but the editor doesnt see it then how should I set this up in the editor does anyone know this or has experience with this? I use windows 10 64bit I have some knowhow on midi and I do have facebook. Thanks in advance really appreciate every help! sorry for my bad english Im dutch
@@Manjarow Hi, your English is much better than my Dutch ! 8D I am confused / not understanding how you have set up your computer and MC808. So, tomorrow daytime, I will get my MC808 and set it up with my computer, and write some notes. Then I may be able to help you with more suggestions. best regards
I am thinking of getting something like Samsung series 7 slate pc with touchscreen. Originally comes with Windows 7 so I guess it should be able to run this editor. Not sure how much I would need to use pen or mouse. Some sliders are very close.
I have used the editor on a Windows 10 desktop, and a laptop. Worked great on both. Never had a ‘slate’ PC, so don’t know anything about them. Interesting idea though! Maybe you could do a video showing how it works.... if you do, please let me know 😀 Best regards 👍
@@1heUndertaker I didn't have any luck with Windows 10, so I use version 7 for that. Not sure about video, I live fairly cheap. My old 200 euro phone probably wouldn't do much justice. Maybe If I get some camera I would do that. I will let you know.
