Thank you for the video. I have an Osmose on pre-order and (I think) I am looking-forward to getting mine. However, most videos are underwhelming in showing its potential, and then I wonder if it is worth the expense. With the aftertouch on my midi-controller and the mod wheel I can do most everything I see in Osmose videos that is musically vital (subjective, I know) but more importantly, these videos emphasize for me that it is the musician, far far more than the keyboard. Watch Cory Henry’s solo on Lingus and you have to sincerely wonder if the Osmose could add anything musically. However, some of the artist videos that Expressive E has put out does give me a sense of what the Osmose can offer, but again, it will require a musician willing to put in the time and effort to learn how to utilize these new gestures musically. As your video shows, and I don’t mean this as any type of criticism, that someone can’t just begin to be more capable of essential musical expression because of the Osmose. It is still a new instrument to learn, albeit leaning more heavily on typical keyboard skills.
I find it very difficult to communicate to other people (including keyboard players) how different it feels to play the Osmose. Only when they start touching the keys, and I show them a patch that is optimized for expressive playing, they get it. The Osmose continually scans the actual position of each key. This constantly changing value (it is called Z in the Eaganmatrix) is available as a formulaic parameter that can be assigned to any and all destinations in the matrix. Just by creating a simple patch in the Eaganmatrix, where the volume (AMP envelope) is driven by the value of Z, results in a patch that can be played with a lot of feeling just by slowly lifting and applying pressure to the keys - and of course truly poly-phonically.
@@ghavinga Thank you for taking the time to respond, and to give me a sense of the uniqueness of expression of the Osmose. For some reason what you said clicked with me, and I got the image of using the breath to control various parameters of the sound and if that is what we keyboard players can begin to do as we play with our fingers that is precisely why I thought I needed an Osmose. I have heard mine may arrive as early as April!
