The problem and difference is that Tatum has always been in a good situation compared to these other players. I took Lebron to leave to get a good situation and took Jourdan some time to get to the situation whose guy Tatum got drafted with Kyrie, Gordon, Hayward, and Brown you can almost ask why is he more like magic when he has almost Eastern conference every single year
@revampmusic56
@revampmusic56 8 месяцев назад
Yea but the problem with when he got drafted , he wasn’t the star , the roster by 2021 was not good , the situation the Celtics were in we’re not where they were in 2017 … and by 2021 he finally became the guy , so to blame him for not winning when he was a 2nd 3rd guy early on is crazy , since he’s became the number 1 guy he’s made the finals and was a ankle twist away from potentially making it back to back finals , why we rushing him into winning every year

This is the same criticism every single player gets until they win a championship and then the critics disappear instantly. It’s just dudes trying to get their hot takes off while they still have a chance. I’m not even a Celtics fan, in fact, I’m a Lakers fan and I hate the Celtics. There is no way you can convince me the Tatum’s window is closed. The dude is only 25 years old and has already been to the conference finals four times and the finals. Let me know which one of your favorite players in the NBA right now has done that or has won a championship before the age of 25. It’s almost like people forgot the LeBron completely disappeared in the Dallas Mavericks series. We don’t talk about that anymore because he got over the hump(except for the dudes, who need something to constantly discredit LeBron for). You’re also delusional if you’re going to sit here and tell me, he can’t beat Giannis and Embiid in the east. He’s been doing that the whole time he was in the league

As a fan of Tatum and the Celtics it’s pretty clear that what he does will never be enough in people’s eyes. If he wins the finals they will say it’s the team and not him, they will say he needs to win an mvp to prove himself as “that guy”. From what I can tell he will get hate regardless and a lot of that will stem from the fact he is a Celtics player and because he doesn’t have a likable personality. By likable I mean how a lot of people say he doesn’t have that “dawg” in him.

All these discussions about Tatum is Number one or not, is he a superstar or not, are clueless. Celtics are build now to play team game not some superdiva performance with cordebalett aside. So some haters could spit out their shit or blame Tatum for something, but it means nothing at all. Tatum and the whole team is devoted to win the game and even if in some games Tatum, JB, JH or KP8 hasn't their scoring day, there's allways someone who compensate that issue. Then you haven't been watching the NBA for long. You can run all the team ball plays all you want. But at the end of the day. Against the most elite of defenses. When that defense have the perfect personnel to defend you and the prep time and perfect scouting report on you. Deep in a series where the team have faced you enough times to know your habits. You will absolutely need that unstoppable superstar that the rest of the league simply have no answer for. A guy that can simply shoot over the top of defenses anytime he wants.

Every year lebron has to transform his roster halfway thru the season. Its bullshit to say he woulda won a ring on this team. Just like its bullshit to say if u add KD to this team they win a ring. you can't argue that his inefficient 3pt shooting and shitty clutch stats this year are inspiring as a guy who projects to be the best player on the best team. he is a great player but needs to be top 5 for this team to win a championship; right now, there are probably 20-30 guys in the league who I would trust more than tatum to score in the clutch and 3 of them are on the celtics. it's totally legitimate to doubt him given his postseason failures and tendency towards horrible hero ball that grinds the celtics offense to a crawl and often hamstrings the celtics momentum in close games

The argument is so lazy: 1. Team wasn’t the jays really until kembas last year. Period. 2. I don’t know why you basketball people refuse to do the work. But go watch the warriors series with the following context. Giannis threw Tatum into a stqnchion and injured his shoulder and wrist. Tatum played through and seemed almost fine till in the Miami series you see him go down to the ground wincing and rubbing that shoulder. From that point forward Tatum is a diffferent player. If you watch those finals the easiest way to see this is Tatum does not use his step back or side step shot after game 1. He can’t snap the ball, the only shots he can take are slow methodical jumpers straight up and dribbling all the way to hoop for layups. That’s it. He doesn’t have fade capability and he doesn’t have his step bag. He can’t do anything quick from beyond 15 ft. He is not even close to the Tatum who dominated through the playoffs. And his style of play is clearly and visibly impaired in that finals. It takes two seconds of finals tape to see this.

I remember seeing something where the Celtics playoff and regular season record is FAR better when tatum reaches a certain number of assists. I believe it was Jason timpf who was pounding the table, even against my warriors in the finals, saying that Tatum's true calling is a pont forward. However, Tatum wants to be Carmelo Anthony offensively. Which is where the problem comes in. Cause when Tatum looks to facilitate his team ends up being way better. Like you said, his three point attempts should go down. We've seen his percentages max out at around 7ish threes a game. However, he keeps shooting more of them and his percentages have gone down. Tatum needs to be shooting more around 6-7 threes a game, and the rest of the possessions looking to either get inside and finish or pass out to the perimeter. The numbers show Tatum isn't a particularly great midrange pull up shooter, and we saw that in the finals when Wiggins dared him into those shots cause tatum has the Kobe fantasy. Where you say lebron-lite, i honestly don't think you're too far off. My modification to that would be "more efficient grant hill." THAT'S where I think Tatum's game can go and where his skillset gets maximized. However, he appears to keep wanting to be Carmelo Anthony.

@Mitch_Feral

Durant wouldnt win on this team, doesnt have the defense, the playmaking, or the heart - Lebron would. Kawhi would. Very likely that Tatum is about to. Tatum, like many superstars, is an inflection point - the people who hate him really hate the people who love him, the people who extoll on his virtues are really trying to justify how they see themselves reflected in him against perceived doubt. The conflicts are in the comment sections, nowhere else. He's a brand, like Marvel or DC, and the arguments people are having are mostly about how they feel about themselves, and how they want to be seen by others - they just use superstars/celebrities/characters as proxies. It's impossible to reasonably look at his accomplishments, against his age, and not say 'this guy is a franchise player with a tremendous long-term outlook' - he's paid that way, he plays that way, his resume supports it. He does some things no one else in the league can do, like most franchise guys. He's so good, he has created expectations such that people treat him like he's 33, and never done anything - instead of 25, having never missed the playoffs, with multiple ECF appearances, and a Finals bid. Again, this has little to do with Tatum. It is because people hate the Celtics (which is really about hating Boston, and which is extremely justified bc we have one of the worst fanbases in the country even if you discount how unashamedly bigoted we are), people hate that the Celtics are one of the markets that gets catered to by national media (bc New England has no shortage of wealthy older White people to advertise to), and by and large, the sort of people who complain online are the sort of people that hate any fanhood they arent a part of. It happens at home, too: listening to Boston sports fans bitterly attack each other from inside Tatum and Brown camps, it's a reminder that the problem is sports media, and how we interact with social media, and how we are taught to build our sense of self - and very little to do with, like, Tatum's relatively mediocre clutch field goal percentage. But, hey, I clicked, and I commented, that's the point. All just out here trying to be heard.
@Christopher._M
@Christopher._M 8 месяцев назад
Kd probably wins with the roster tatum has. Go actually check the rosters kd has had in the playoffs the last 3 seasons and compare them to tatums. Tatum has had better rosters. Kd on paper has Better teams but they haven't actually played when it matters. Dragic, Patty, and seth were playing in the playoffs against Boston because Harris ans Simmons were hurt. That's not even mentioning the chemistry issues.
@Mitch_Feral
@Mitch_Feral 8 месяцев назад
@@Christopher._M I would also agree that Tatum's teams have been better - but I think Tatum is the superior defender, and rebounder, and those are the things that make Boston tick. And KD would have similar scoring primacy issues in Boston, as Tatum does - Tatum could score more than he does, but doing so wouldnt be the best thing for the team, bc everyone is so good at scoring. Durant at 25 was putting up 32/7.5/5.5, next to Westbrook and Ibaka. Tatum at 25 is putting up 27/9/5 next to Brown, Porzingis/White. Now, scoring was harder in the 10's, so I think what Durant was doing was even more impressive than it looks in comparison - but accordingly, being a good defender is much harder now, and being a good rebounder is much different. The volume of long rbs is so much higher, and controlling defensive rebounds is so much more important when the league shoots 3's as well as they do. Durant doesnt add much if his shot isnt falling, Tatum does a lot when he's cold. I think that's why it would be harder for Durant to get the C's over the line. But, then, this team is considerably better than any that Tatum has had before, and I'm not gonna sit here and say Durant couldnt - I just have doubts with him, where I have basically none about Lebron or Kawhi, just bc of how their games compliment what the C's do well.

Bsolz need to take off these celtic googles off.The jokic and giannis examples are ass comparisions. Murray didnt become a number 2 till 2020 season, they lose to the lakers and then miss murray for 2 years. Middleton didnt become a number 2 till really 21 or 22 postseason. Kevin durant makes finals in 2012, they trade his number 3 after and him and russ rotate injury in 2014/2015. Meaning he had 2 post seasons with russ and they run into a 73-9 team in 2016. Tatum and Brown havent missed a plaoff season except in 2021. Do you know the miami height had like a 7 percent chance to win last years conference finals. Jordan didnt win till year 7/8. Guess what, once he got that all star help, never lost. Curry won once klay and green became all stars.Ngl using the age thing is crazy once you gave those guys help or a team 9/10 they won. Mustard spoke facts. Tatum is a choker. If they win it will be because of despite of him , not cause of him

My only true criticism of him is more post ups and mid range attempts, and attack the rim a little more to get easier shots. He settles way too much. That 30 becomes a 35-40 easy. The overall shot variety of him and Brown needs to change a little bit more. But outside of that his resume is still great. 4 ECFs, 1 Finals appearance which you lost to arguably a top 10 player ever at his peak in Steph, and he’s improved every year. 2 all NBA first teams, he’s just getting started. I just think he’s not there yet as far as his peak. Once his IQ matches his talent, that’s when he will become top 3. The argument is simply will his IQ match his talent?

@@Mptappin12 the Celtics have been in the conference finals 3 out of the last 4 years. If you're going to use the "it takes time" argument then jokic is a bad example because people were not willing to give him time even tho his team was injury riddled for two seasons. I remember the conversations about him. People were acting like he wasn't just in the WCF when the nuggets were healthy. That was basically a championship or bust season for him last year. People wonder why the players association would be in favor of that. We should be wondering why the PA is in favor of letting babies come take jobs from bench vets who won’t even make as much as the new rookies.
