an honest life update: what I've been hiding, I'm moving? + what's really been going on

I’m so glad you took action and sought answers! Our healthcare system is so broken and it’s awful how many young women are ignored/gaslighted by medical professionals. We all know our bodies best - if you think something’s wrong, keep pushing for answers!! Hope you can detox your system and start feeling better soon! 💜

I've had the same issues with mold and they flared up my autoimmune illnesses and caused a lot of the symptoms you described. I'm so glad that you were persistent and really in tune with your body! 🤍 I hope you start to feel better and don't ever apologize for taking time for yourself! 🫶✨

It’s good you did not back down. The landlord was probably ignoring it bc taking out the tile would have been very costly. I hope they fix the issue before leasing to another person. I wish I had known about these test. I lived in an older apt complex and I always felt ill and had a lot allergy issues. After a hurricane in Houston that caused some flooding they found a lot of toxic mold in my neighbor’s unit that was growing behind her sofa from a water leak from her window. Basically every time it rained water was leaking in. It wasn’t until I eventually moved that realized I probably had mold poisoning. My symptoms went away and I felt so much better. I hope you get better and thanks for sharing your story bc it’s helpful to know these things.

WOW! I am in a very similar situation right now with all of the same symptoms you have! I am in a apt and I definitely have seen mold in my apt and I really suspect that its in the walls. I have also seen little colonys of mold looking things just laying around too. I am definitely trying all that you have done!! I so appreciate you telling us about this. It may explain why i am feeling the way I am. I hope you find some relief quickly!!

Omg I want to cry watching this! My health has been declining and I’ve been in and out of the doctors office. Each time being told there’s nothing wrong. My mom is convinced it’s mold, I wish testing wasn’t so expensive but have reached a point where I need to get tests done.

Omg I think I might have this too! I just looked up the symptoms & I align with a lot of these symptoms. I had my hormones tested & they were normal & my thyroid was slightly elevated so this is why I was thinking I was getting inflamed, feeling sluggish, my joints were killing me in workouts & I find it hard to catch my breath at times. I also break out in hives randomly & my lips will swell for no reason! We have an issue in our bathroom with the grout too & no matter how much I scrub it comes back. We also had a leak by our chimney which was fixed but I think there is mold as I see it on the ceiling. I also noticed in our garage where I had baskets they became covered in mold this past summer. Thankfully we are almost done building our new house & we are out of here! I am going to get tested to check for this though! Thank you for sharing this!

@katie keep in mind Coffee has mold. ESPECIALLY if you use a kurig or nesspresso. I felt the same and of all of my changes looking for the reason why i fet sick i found the nesspresso coffee was making me sick. I changed to a drip Coffee maker and did research on the least mold Coffee in the market. Changed from one week to another.

My last townhome I was in, I had move into when I moved to Nashville so I never got to tour the place, was infested in mold! I was in and out of urgent care for months til my landlord finally let me out of the lease after opening one of the kitchen walls and finding black mold all up and down the walls of the kitchen

As someone who has been dealing with mold toxicity for two years it’s so frustrating. Make sure you get rid of anything that can’t be washed if you had mold in the air too.

Look into which pieces of furniture you may need to get rid of. I’ve read somewhere that the bed mattress catches and traps a lot of mold particles in homes with mold issues.

Does mold not affect dogs? I would have thought it would be affecting them too.. wow!! So sorry you had to go through this but glad you got answers and this is good info to know. I too thought it was extreme scenarios or unclean environments this happened in!! Thanks so much for sharing and congrats on your fresh start 🤍

Glad you found out what was wrong. The really sad thing is your landlord will probably rent it again without fixing the mold and a new family will suffer. I wonder if there’s something you can do or post so someone else doesn’t go through what you’ve been through.

It doesn’t surprise me that your landlord/letting agent was very rude and defensive when you complained about the mold. I don’t know what it’s like in the US but here in the UK it’s lucky if you can find a landlord that does anything further than pick up the rent and fix the absolute bare minimum like if there was a flood or something. And they will very often try and imply that you have caused the issues with something you’ve done - an easy way to get out of paying to solve issues. I had really bad mould and mildew and high humidity levels in my last rented home and it was terrible. We lived there for 2 years and it was an ongoing battle with our landlord to get it sorted. Contractors came out and made suggestions and there were some vague attempts at fixing it but nothing helped. In the end we just moved out and left it all behind. There are too many landlords getting away with harming people’s health through their own greed and incompetence and it really shouldn’t be allowed to go on. My thoughts are with you and I’m glad you’ve managed to get all this sorted!! You will love your healthier home despite the downsizing - we also downsized from our mould-ridden house and I love our current smaller home way way more. It’s so much cuter, we decluttered and got rid of a bunch of our stuff which was a great feeling and we’ve decorated this place really nicely. Most importantly the landlord is much nicer and there is no mould!!

But honestly Kate you should do something about it also, looks like your landlord won’t tell any new tents about this issue, you should maybe file to the town and let them know about this, it’s sounds dangerous, What if a family with newborn baby will move there. Ask the lawyer maybe?
