I think in this episode you can tell that Karl is actually "growing" and seeing how naive or ignorant he is to different cultures and history, it makes sense. I imagine him walking around in Petra and sort of having that "finding himself" moment. For me, just watching the Karl development is entertaining enough. And when you think he's about to say something truly profiund, he butchers it. Absolutely love him.

Bean yeah, without being famous he’s just David Brent - love rickys observational stand up, Noah’s ark, loved Derek... but he crosses the line with using Karl sometimes... and a lotta Karl’s lines and observations appear in his stand up... most folk don’t realize how much, until they get into Karl’s stuff later on. Awards show stuff is good coz he’s a twat being a twat to bigger twats... punching up ... being that level of twat to Karl is punching down tho.

I always thought a trip to the Dead Sea would be great ... until I saw this. I like to experience new things, but floating around in snot doesn't really appeal to me. That camel trek across the desert looked pretty cool though.

I never saw the appeal of reaction videos until I discovered Americans reacting to British comedy's. It's both hilarious and interesting. I love watching TV shows a second time with mates who haven't watched them, just to gauge their reactions; But seeing as I can't do that during lockdown, this is the next best thing. I, along with many other fellow Brits I'm sure, thoroughly respect your ability to understand our sense if humour! Can't wait for you to experience the next ep of Idiot Abroad. Hands down my favourite. I'd also like to throw a recommendation out - a BBC show called QI. Probably been suggested before. Basically a lot of people you've previously watched videos of on a quiz show about pointless facts hosted by the British national treasure that is Stephen Fry. I have the season 1 dvd from when it first came out (over a year before the Savile scandal), and there is no skip, cut, or edit. Karl says "Jim'll Fix It". Even without knowing that, your take on the matter makes no sense. If you were correct, why did they leave the 'Worzel Gummidge' reference in the Rio episode? Why keep in Karl talking about 'Dragon's Den'? Why let Karl mention one of the Babbas in India looking like Bill Oddie, surely they wouldn't want to advertise 'Spring Watch'?! What about Karl's references to Alan Wicker and Michael Palin's travel shows throughout the first 2 seasons?

Karl's comments about living in a hole looking at a palace reminded me of Guy de Maupassant's alleged reply when asked why he always had lunch beneath the Eiffel Tower. The only difference is that Monsieur Maupassant hated the tower so much that this ensured he was in the only spot in Paris where he would not have to look at it.

I think what's happened is you're watching The Ricky Gervais show and getting funny scene after funny scene... Idiot abroad started out very much as a prank on Karl but quickly becomes a genuinely good show where it's funny mixed with a real view on other countries... Its not joke after joke definitely, but Karl's view on things is where the magic is ! You have some more great episodes to come, season 2 is amazing too, and then season 3 with Warwick is hilarious ! Been waiting all day for this, loving the uploads !

Not sure but I think Stranger on the Shore by Acker Bilk (jazz clarinetist) was the first number one by a British artist in the US & was taken into space on one of the Apollo missions.
