Very helpful- thanks. When you leave something on a setting, like the sample rate, it would be helpful if you said why you set it as you do. Like why 48 kHz and not 96 kHz. Just my 2 cents.
I just got my Helix and I think I am going to love it, but honestly feeling a little overwhelmed by it right now. Do you a video on snap shots, I do not understand what those are. Thanks for the videos!
most of all these setting are purly an objective preference, like there is not standard level or gain at which you should use the pad on input. However, when it comes to you outputs, specifically your 1/4 and XLR main outputs, Should both be set to Line. and here is why, almost all input jacks on professional, studio equipment are line inputs. You only should ever use instrument when you are going to be pluging into the input jack of an amplifier. Thats it really cvause even -on the same amplifier, if you run into the fx loop or if you have a preamp by-pass to utilize the power amp only, the preamps only job is to boost the quite input of a guitar to get it up to a line level in order for the power amp to do its job, turn as far as the XLR is concerned, you are actually correct that if you are plugging into XLR inputs you should be using a mic level output because you are going to have to go through the Prince go to XLR input which are designed for mic level. But that's why you should never use a double ended XLR cable cause almost all XLR inputs are fual function XLR to TRS jacks. And actually I can even think of any interface or PA system that use xlr on for the input. I only see that on something like a studio monitor cause they only have one input circut but use a dedicated TRS input which equal the same thing. And that is if you see an XLR input, 99% its likely you will have a TRS input. And you want to use and XLR to TRS because if you plug in the xlr, you will have go through the mic preamps which variably adds coloration it alters your sound whereas if you use a TRS input, even on the dual function inputs the TRS is how the system knows to bypass the mic input and go round as a line level. That's also true four TS cables your regular quarter inch everybody's got him guitar cable. You don't wanna use those primarily within the first two we'll have a third capability of accepting a instrument level IE that is DIY guitar honey low impedance single. In again it's the TRS cable that will bypass the high impedance setting of input Ih which again is controlled by the TRS cable. If it doesn't recognize 1/4 inch input as being TRS then automatically we'll send you through a high impedance signal flow and you don't want that

Wow. I'm an even bigger idiot than I thought. Am I supposed to plug this Black Beast into my Fender Blues Deluxe and set it to clean or do I need to buy a Helix amp? I am planning on getting this bad boy today.
On Global Settings, no matter how I adjust the first 2 knobs it doesn't look like the video. I'll just have a ring light off and bright, and never will it go dim and bright. Is this unit defective?
This is so good! May I ask a question? I use GarageBand on iMac. I now connected the Helix via usb to iMac. I also have a Focusrite audio interface with Genelec speakers. In Garageband I set preferences “audio input -> Helix” and “audio output -> Focusrite”. Is it a better way to connect the Helix with 1/4 jack (or XLR) directly to the Focusrite interface? You explained your setup this way in the video. So in GarageBand both input and output will be Focusrite. Thanks in advance.
Thanks. Very helpful. I want to mount my Helix on a stand like the one you are using. I have a sheet music stand but I don't think it's sturdy enough to use and don't want to take the chance of it falling off. Any suggestions?
Steve ORourke I had mine in a guitar stand that doesn’t have the long pole. The short ones and it fit perfectly. However, I switched to the rack I put that in a desk in an amp stand. I’ll see if I can copy/paste a pic of the guitar stand. You’d have to put it on a desk obviously though. You can find them anywhere. I got mine in a tiny local store. Can’t copy it here. Look up short guitar stand on google.
Just got back from rehearsal and my band mates were complaining about a low rumble sound through my headrush powered speakers, any idea what I can do to resolve this? i'm using a Line 6 Helix
New helix user here. When I change my global settings to turn the Guitar pad on, it only changes the preset that I’m on. It doesn’t change them all. The only way I’ve been able to do it is going to every preset, selecting the input, setting to Guitar , turning on pad and then saving it. If I don’t save it the next time I go to that preset the pad isn’t on. What am I doing wrong? Is there some sort of save function to global settings so it is applied to all?
So the Input Pad will always be on if you set it in Global Settings. What you are seeing in the preset is probably the Input Z which will be set to "Auto" by default or Input Gate that will be set to "Off" by default. If I remember correctly you can't even access the Input Pad from a preset. I will double check later this evening though.
Can I set the wah to globaly activate for any patch when I hit the toe switch on the upper left corner of the expresion pedal? I used to do this on my old digitech and I can't believe this option isn't avaliable in the all mighty helix 🤔
I cut the low cut( the low end I think) using the amp EQ, my sound sounded way better. One questions, Should I es my sound to sound to fit in my band mix or should I have my EQ normal and let the sound guy mix it? I think I should EQ it, but should I mix it so it don’t overpower other sounds? Just like cutting the low end of a piano so it don’t interfiere with the bass?
Thanks heaps for these vids Jeremy. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but can I get your opinion on how you ended up on the Helix?. I know you have had a Kemper and and Ax8 in the past. How do they compare tone wise in your experience?. I am nearly at the point where I might sell the Ax8 and just get a Helix and be done with it. It has everything I want in one unit. Just dont want to sacrifice good tone, but from what I see now with the Helix and 2.50 its sounds pretty incredible to me. Any input would be appreciate mate, take care.
Hey there! I will give you the abridges version. Got the Kemper about 4 years ago. LOVED it and gigged the heck out of it. My profiles of my actual Spawn Quick Rod are still up on the Rig Exchange I believe. I was very vocal about my love for the Kemper and will still never slag it. It's an amazing unit. I was also very vocal about how much I did NOT like the Helix when it launched. Anyway, after about 2.5 years with the Kemper, I was going down a large and expensive rabbit hole with profiles and it started losing it's luster. I had some core tones I really liked still but I was getting burnt out on it. I started watching a lot of AX8 vids and was really intrigued by the price point and tones AND also got bit by the Les Paul bug. What appealed to me most was the idea of building my tones instead of buying someone else's profiles. Even though I own my home, I did and still don't have a way to creat my own profiles as in Vegas houses are built right on top of each other and the volume is an issue. Anyway, about 6 months after that (or so) I got a great offer for my complete Kemper rig, and got an incredible deal on a Les Paul Trad Pro and Fractal dropped the price on the AX8 when they moved production to China. Saw Brett Kingman's vid on dialing in his Plexi tone, did the same thing and LOVED it. Ultimately I found I loved the tones, but didn't love not being able to wrap my head around programming it effectively without AX8 Edit. Navigating the switching from banks to presets to scenes felt clunky as well. Ended up selling it for what I paid and THEN went to the Amplifier 3... was not a fan. Sold that a week later fully intending to get the HeadRush unit and then Line 6 announced the Helix LT. I started hearing some great clips over on TheGearPage of the FW2.0 stuff on Helix and thought, "Give it a go and if it sucks I can return it." Sold the Amplifier and got the LT. First of all, let me say, I was as stunned as anyone that I was ok laying out $880 for a new LT. If you had told me 3 years prior that I'd own ANY Line 6 modeler, I would have beat you with my Kemper! It was love at first chord though. I mean, I opened the box, plugged it in, updated to the current FW (I think it was 2.12) and just "had at it". Had a killer tone dialed in in minutes. Literally the easiest programming of a modeler I had ever tried. Never read the manual and to this day still really haven't. There hasn't been much of anything I wasn't able to figure out on my own. The Friedman in 2.5 ALONE would have sold me. I have subsequently sold my LT to a friend and now have the full Helix, the Rack and Controller AND Native. I will say, like I would never slag the Kemper, I also would not slag the Fractal stuff. The AX8 sounds killer and is a great unit. With that said, I likely would not buy another. I had Kemper GAS for a hot minute until I got one for the home studio a few months ago. I had it for about a week. Loaded up all my old favorite profiles and realized I didn't like them as much and preferred what I was dialing in on the Helix. I actually tone matched a few of them! LOL! Anyway, the Helix is here to stay for me. The updates have been amazing and the customer service is phenomenal. For me, I made the right decision and would make the same one again switching over. If you have any amp models in particular you'd like to hear let me know and I am happy to post them

I wish you would have explained a little more detail of what some the terms in the settings are. e.g. "Snapshot". I'm an idiot. What's a snapshot? There were a couple of other things as well and the fact that we skipped over sections kind of made me wonder if at some point you are going to go into those?
Super simple. Use the joystick to highlight the effect block you want to assign, then lightly touch the footswitch you want it on with your finger. Then click the last knob where the green box saying “assign” is. That’s it.
I have a rack but #gas got me buying a not needed floorboard. I was looking n looking for a stand. There’s a stand that Sweetwater and other online stores sell. I’ll paste it but the floorboard is 22inches wide it’s wider than the LT. So the length of the shelf on the stand is a half an inch too small. I saw Doug Doppler also using one. He must’ve shoved it in there pretty hard or stretched out the metal holder somehow. Idk which floorboard you have but Jeremy I believe said somewhere he’s using a laptop monitor or a music stand. I’d be scared it would tip over. I bought a stupidly expensive rack box, put that on my desk and put a small guitar stand on that. Then slanted the helix on that. I’ll paste the slightly too short one (by an inch) stand hold on. Be aware though measure everything. Can’t paste it I’m using an old cell while my new ones being charged. It’s called the ON STAGE STANDS MIX400 AUTO LOCATER/MIXER. It’s expensive and be aware measure everything first. Otherwise maybe go with a laptop and really make sure it’s not going to fall over or put it thr helix on a guitar stand on a desk.
Good catch! This is for how Delay Repeats work when changing the parameter for the "time" knob in the effects settings. Like on a regular delay pedal, you have the Time knob set for 550ms and then while repeats are going you change to 800ms and the repeats warble and get wild. The "Authentic" setting makes that happen. The other option is "Transparent" which means the repeats will not be affected or have that warble. Thanks for the question.

The Footswitch global settings is driving me nuts. There's no Stomp/Stomp setting yet I see even in your own video at 4:18 8 available stomp effects on top and bottom rows. I can't find a way to clear out top row to add more Stomp effects.
I have the Helix Floor but my point was that there was no obvious way to put STOMP on both upper AND lower rows (instead of only upper or only lower), yet I kept seeing videos of others using both rows for STOMP effects. But I actually stumbled across the way to clear out all 10 switches and allow me make whatever assignments I wanted. Out of frustration I did a factory reset, then a Global switch reset (forgot the actual name of it). It was then while setting up a preset using Helix Edit, I looked down and saw 10 blank footswitches to assign any way I wanted. That's what I was looking for.
you have to set up a snapshot so that 1 switch can change multiple items so going from Snapshot 1 to Snapshot 2 will do just what you said. Go from your clean tone basic sound to then Turn on your delay AND distortion. Check out other videos about creating snapshots
