The police check would have possibly raised red flags that would have not allowed him to get a student visa. That’s why you do those checks. But with our current government, they probably would have let him in anyway.

I came into this country with a permanent residence visa. It needed me 1.5 years to obtain and of course there were criminal records submitted and checked, interviews conducted by the embassy and the secret service. That was 1997 to 1998. How in hell could things go so far south? And not to forget I was German and captain in the German police force at the time. How come that citizens from "problem countries", meaning countries that obviously produce a lot of terrorists and violent criminals get into Canada practically unscreened? One would think that there would be extra caution. My kids could make up a list of such countries by just reading the news for a month.
This is the problem with our government, appointed someone as the highest decision maker who has no background or experience whatsoever in their department, only relying sole on their advisors who are not very competent. It seems that has been going on for years across many departments.
