OMG! I think you are about to save my life. I have been sifting through videos including those recommended at the RME site and have been unable to make head or tail of Totalmix. Yours is the only one that is so clear and to the point. Thank you. I will keep watching.
Man oh man. THIS is a life-saver tech tutorial if there ever was one. I'm still lost, but at least I see the light (viewing this away from my studio atm). Oh, and .. MAN the fun we could have remixing those classic Doobie multitracks! Like a kid in Disneyland .. thanks for this!!
This is the authoritative and official TotalMix walkthrough. Thank you. Barry John's is cool and all but he overcomplicates the mental model by telling people to think top down. I corrected it by saying what was done here by understanding that the bottom row on click/select shows what is going on above. Think bottom up to keep your sanity.
As a newbe homerecording amateur I dare say: Great video! Now I know that my quest of trial and error was not in vain! I wish I found this video weeks ago it would have saved me a ton of time and annoyance. The right topics were hit the right way, well done!!
This was super handy to show me how I could have something like Guitar Rig 6 open alongside my DAW and to have my DAW record a direct guitar track alongside the effected amp track...good stuff
@@SynthaxInc immensely! Would you also know what the eight little blocks (that illuminate green) on the bottom left of a UFX II lcd display are? I can't find the info anywhere
Super halpful; good explanations. I'm going to need to rewatch stuff towards the end a second time to make sure I get it, but I already know so much more now than I did before I watched this. Thanks you for this! Well done.
OMG! I had no idea I bought such a powerhouse. I will need to spend some time with this device. Shame I bought mine just before the MADI one came out, but hey ho, when I'm recording 100 channels at once, I'll think about upgrading, for now, it works. Thanks for the great video.
really wish total mix had a Auxiliary IO mapping options . so that you could just use your out board Effects units . Some sort of add Aux button and select Send & return IO . This way with a couple of ADAT you could record a live performance with effects .
This is amazing! i had no idea. finally understand how to use it. I would really love if someone showed me how to use foldback and route into logic. Its jut not working for me
absolutely beautiful explanation. I have some questions: is it possible to integrate whit a radio broadcasting sw app ? the problem is how to route back into the broadcasting software the separate signal for music and mic since the decoding is done inside the broadcasting sw? Another question: can the mic be routed out to a plugin and then get back? Probably in the software input it will get back after I saw your video.
Quick question, I'm using a Neve 1073spx l to mix as plugin in my DAW. On the back on the Neve I have a compressor inserted. Do I need to enable +4 on on the in and out channel where it's connected in total mix fx?
nice to learn old known stuff with a fresh angle.. :D watching my soundcards producer instruction Viedo for fun.. jeah you can tell i have free time! :D
I’m have a Babyface Pro and a UFX+ using thunderbolt. Can the babyface pro stay connected via USB and selected for playback ...and the UFX+ for recording?
You seem very knowledgeable with this software, thanks for all the info. The problem I'm having is this: I'm trying to slap a hardware compressor across my mixbus. I have it all set up hardware wise right (7-8 out of the Fireface into the comp back out the comp into 7-8 of the Fireface.) Great. The problem is when I pull up 7-8 on Totalmix im getting phasey feedback. Ive tried everything I can think of. Please tell me you can help. FRUSTRATED!
Hi am having a Problem with my new rme babyface pro fs . the microphone input is so low that you could bearly hear it. I use a condenser mic and the 48v is always on and My settings are correct but dunno if am missing something. Could you have any ideal on what I could do? Am using a terra note book core i7 12gb it's a pretty powerful computer
Thinking about buying a Babyface and wondering when would one actually need dynamics to be available in TotalMix instead for recording dry and adding that in the DAW later where it can be adjusted any time - instead of recording a wet signal!?
Because the effects are internal DSP from the Babyface it reduces the cpu load in your DAW, that’s the main benefit. So would be primarily for those dealing with major cpu load issues
PHONE 1 is the mix you hear in your physical headphones, while MAIN is the mix you hear in the physical monitors connected to the interface, correct? What do you use to mix what other people hear while you're streaming or recording?
This is the best tutorial I've seen, thank you but - did I miss something? - you said how to record EQ settings but how do you record the actual Reverb and delay effects of the Babyface please?
Not recommended Reverb and Delay are best used for monitoring only and then added after recording within the DAW....Anyway, I expect you can do that through loopback as shown in the video.
It would have been nice if the screen would have been maximized so that we'd have a better ability of reading labels since many of us are doing market research & merely attempting to understand what on earth is going on with your audio routing (some of us are also just learning the basics of audio routing)... words and labels matter as teaching tools for context.
So Phones 1 is the mix you're creating for yourself to hear and Main is the mix you're creating for people to hear if you're streaming OR will everything routed to PB 1/2 be listened to by viewers regardless of whether it's Phones 1 or Main mix?
why cant i record or listen guitar that i am playing live from my daw LOGIC but able to listen directly from the total mix note: i have properly installed drivers and everything else works properly except this that i am not able to see any input in my daw when i connect my electric guitar to my interface
Would you please tell why do I get phase like sound into my headphones after turning on the software monitoring because I want to record with plugins so what should I do? Is it due to the software monitoring of logic or Total mix?
Hello, the phasing sound comes from both TotalMix and DAW monitoring active at the same time. Since you want to monitor with plugins you should use the DAW monitoring only, and remove the input routings from TotalMix FX.
Hi hope you're doing fine 👍👍 I have a question that's, For many years i didn't use my rme interface ( baby face ) But just i connected to do a mix by use of Rme total mix fx but i couldn't get the exact output means ( i don't know how to get output of RME total mix FX in mixing and mastering, if it's possible plz help me. ( Hope you may help me and also many RME users are unable to use RME Total mix FX in logic Pro ) It's easy to get output but it doesn't sound same after getting final out and playing in any-other players like in a car or another studio etc etc. ( And also don't know to use the loopback option in RME Total Mix FX ) please help me 🙏😁
YOU declare that you have "two" interfaces connected (and it's "totally fine). But you're in Mac. That's not new.... ...Will that work in Windows (that's the REAL question)?!
