if you want to actually understand what's happening with a very good narrative style, I recommend Tiptoe The Tank, with this type of lore heavy game, she goes first with the backstory before going for the events of the game proper
The one thing I'll say as a person who has played multiple games by FromSoftware (creators of Elden Ring) is that if you've never played one of their games before, they will change you as a gamer. I used to be a semi-competitive casual gamer who would yell at the game often but then I played Dark Souls 3 and it taught me patience and discipline. I'm now a calm and collected high-level gamer and my timing is ridiculous. The game i decided trying to play after I beat it actually was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and while my friends found fighting the dangerous monsters difficult, I felt it was childs play and have felt that with most games since. Elden Ring is another experience very akin to how i felt in Dark Souls 3 and I know with certainty that its creating more gamers like myself. It's a commitment to get into, my best friend still hasnt even beaten Elden Ring. Took me 160 hours the first time.
