I like how calmly the main character continues to play golf, despite the fact that ghosts are literally behind him. Like, dude, come in the morning!!!

i really thought it was funny when the game told you not to hit the ball over the cliff. the devs clearly wanted you to, and the body near the hole was meant to be like "oh shit i think I just murdered a man with my eldritch golf passions," but playing the whole the 'correct' way, you just find a dead body there and its obvious you werent the one who killed him. idk, i just thought it was funny

i like how when you stare at them long enough they tilt their head like "what are you waiting for? turn around"

you know, when I saw 'the ball cannot enter the water' followed by 'this body cannot swim', my immediate thought was "oh damn we're a sentient golf ball".

I can't believe Manly read the warning not to shoot it over the cliff, completely misunderstood which cliff, and then wonders if he could have done it (and what that implies), but still knows the ball washer is to clean up the blood

I used to work for an alarm company and one of our clients was a golf club. Got an alarm at 3am and informed the owner. He calls us back to say that some guy was playing in the rain 😂

It was peaceful for so long that i forgot this was a horror game. But that little mechanic of looking away is scary and stressful

This isn't the first time golf and horror have been brought together, but this just might be the weirdest, and that is with the golf ball mascot monster game in mind. I'm glad it kept that comedic angle through it without necessarily stopping the unsettling atmosphere. This was wild.

I just love these "sports horror" (like the fishing horror) games where we the protag has a one-track mind. There is unspeakable horrors happening around us but NOPE gotta golf 💀

This looks like a genuinely good game to me. It starts out with the basic golf, adds in the vampire stalkers mechanics, then twists with the world of darkness. The statue people are creepy with twisted smiles. The flashing visages when you're in the dark is superb. And this is all before you see the face of the god entity. PLUS a boss fight that brings back chipping your shots to hit up in the tree, new root spikes, and adds a vampire back in to juggle. AND A MUSICAL NUMBER?? The dev is really killing it with the facial expressions on these people. From the golf course attendants that look terrified as you talk to them, to the malicious eyes of the Greener Grass employees. Just an amazing experience all around.

You're definitely not a normal person. When he said "I know who I'm dealing with" and "I'll eat your dinner" Seems to me that you're a god as well. The god of golf.

26:38 Honestly, this moment and what Manly said made me think about something. There've been a lot of studies and such written on how people familiar with games play games versus people who don't really play games, and I think this is one of those moments. I know I get kinda antsy like Manly did here when a game seems to hitch out of nowhere, especially in a seemingly not-tense moment, that recognition of "oh the game is loading something that's taking extra processing" that just has you waiting for the shoe to drop of some boss around the corner, or the chaser enemy spawning in, or some such. And now I kinda wanna know if any horror games have played with that idea intentionally, or that I'd like to see one that did. Just a few moments throughout the game, doing something like loading some huge garbage asset just out-of-bounds to make the game hitch a little during a tense moment to make the player freak out, or have the chaser enemy be ever-so-slightly notable as causing that sort of load-in lag, only for one appearance of it to suddenly not have that. Just, little meta things that don't break the fourth wall narratively, but mess with the player's preconceptions as people who have the subtle, unintentional instinct based on experience with hardware limitations and such. The kinda thing that wouldn't be picked up by John Doe from Iowa deciding to play a spooky game for a change since he likes horror movies and he *did* get that new pc for work last month... It's kinda cool when games take "genre savvy" and use it for new levels of engagement that won't get a rise out of the *entire* audience, but will hit twice as hard for the part that gets it, so I'm curious about that aspect now that it's been sorta been brought into focus. Anyway, great video as always Manly, thanks for giving me a cool game thing to think about this week on top of a nice, long LP to watch

As someone who works at a golf course, I can tell you that those are in fact not vampires, those are the Greenskeepers and are probably just mad that you keep putting your bag down on the Green (it's bad etiquette because it ruins the grass).

Man we need more messed up golf games, I feel like it's the definition of "mundane horror". Like how much more mundane can you get past GOLF? I need my freaky golf tourneys, dammit

Ah yes, a game that utilizes the most stressful parts of the real-life golf experience: being watched and followed by strangers waiting behind you, and trying to find your ball in a vast overgrown course.

I found the look mechanic to be very stressful. The anxiety I had watching those vampires chasing Manly. Kudos to the dev, it's a great game and I liked the commercial at the end! I half expected the protagonist to say something like "I don't even like golf" at the end. I love that the player is probably some eldritch being possessing a random person to get their golf fix.

Thats the most accurate security guard ever in a video game just going 'aight Ima head out' when the golfer talked back to him. I would know, Im a security guard.

It is a shame Manly didn't catch what the Cliff Wall was. I think the "Accident" is suppose to be a tutorial for how to handle the threats. Which is why the threats seemed so excessively oppressive and often more obnoxious then threats. I think when you get the light balls and meet the threats again it is suppose to escalate as a tutorial for the climax. Or not.

Manly's little mischievous chuckle when he puts down the Cheating Bag the first few times and when his golf ball goes into the water is so adorable. Bro is a troublemaker at heart

I love that Yatoimtop has dipped into more horror-centred stuff, they have a spark for environmental storytelling and I love their designs. I assume the greener grass company was spreading the saplings of this evil god tree (earlier it said they imported trees from Europe), otherwise I have no clue about anything else

I love how both Manly and CJUs response to the first corpse at the hole is “I can use this to my advantage.”

I like the silly ending and how the landscapers look like the enemies. The commercial is weird and funny, but it implies that the landscapers were somehow in on what happened as they all look kinda evil. I like weird stuff like that.

Dont know what this dev was smoking but they had a vision and they ran with it all the way to the end. And it was executed really well. Impressive

That first area on the stairs reminds me so deeply of a dream I had.. It’s honestly really uncanny, right down to the colours.

The end with finding the temple (twice!) and boss part might have been a bit tedious, but the whole game had pretty interesting mechanics and the holes were good. The musical made the whole thing lol. Moral: Keep your eye on the ball.

Halfway through this video. [Spoilers up to 34:50] I'm wondering what the protagonists is? Their responses seem very strange (when you get to respond), and they're very determined to golf. I know if I was there, I'd be getting out of there as soon as I was caught by the law! And I'd be extra getting out of there when I saw the law broke! Edit: 1:05:03 Spoilers My immediate reaction to seeing the boss was "Wtf" but honestly? Killing a Tree God is a pretty good way to end summer. And I would definitely get that song stuck in my head if I saw that commercial on television

The font the character used changed right about the end, which makes me think that whatever was using them as a flesh suit was gone... Imagining getting possessed and all the demon makes you do is play golf?

Even though we've seen quite a few Golfing Horror games, they're always a pleasure to watch mostly because you have that balance between a relatively quiet/peaceful atmosphere while golfing (if you don't rage at the course and just take in the scenery) and an ever-growing tension that's built up by horror games All of them so far have been pretty On Par with each other

Idk if it’s because of how fast those things run or if it’s because I’m watching at but those things are genuinely terrifying

As someone on a golf team, I can confirm that this happens on a regular basis. We actually all get together at the end of practice to clean the blood off our clubs

The way the dialog is done in this game is so.. new? weird? idk its just the way the background noise amps up like somethings about to snap and then the abrupt cut of the dialog options never failed to fill me with dread and i hope i can find other games that do this too i need it please 😭

the simple detail that you have two clubs to choose from in the beginning lovingly reminds me of the red golf bag of different golf clubs my grandfather left behind for me and my siblings. nice lil thing. also i feel manly needing to gauge how the power-scaling works in-game to get a feel for it. you really gotta trial-and-error those margins when first starting out :' )

Throughout the game, you have the text telling you what to do. Can't look away form bag, go to next hole, ect. The evil god, after recognizing you, says "your suit of flesh is fragile" Then, after it's over, you wake up. The text wonders how you got there... and it's in a different font than what we've seen all game. Speculation, you were a normal person possessed by an angelic entity (or something similar) for the explicit purpose of slaying the Tree God.

Everyone here, the moment this came out like me all of us have a horrible sleeping schedule or live in a different time zone

I feel like I've met this Golfer before, you know, the one that is like "I don't care if the rapture is happening and hell spawn are fighting around me! I pay my dues to this country club, I work hard, and I put up with my demanding partner daily to have this one day to Golf! Now get your corpse off my green so I can putt damn it!"

This is honestly a really well made game. Vampires being savage hunters is the norm so it’s actually really interesting to see someone conceptualize it as something that stalks you in plain sight. The music is also very nice and fits the atmosphere so well. Hope to see more from this dev.

But if I’m ever confronted by someone telling me to do something, I’ll just stare at them really hard and say, “I know…” I used to go golfing with my dad when I was little and I remember there always being 18 holes. The Greener Grass Awaits advertisement was pretty convincing.

I remember your channel barely had 300k subs like 5+ years ago. I feel watching someone grow, especially from almost being non-commentary-like to interactive, and it's incredibly wholesome. Memorable games like the Purgatory in my opinion changed you I think. Now just by a year, you can earn a million sub. Keep up the good play and enjoy man. You're a true gamer that I've never seen getting into some internet drama.

I think those vampire people that kept trying to get you while you were golfing could have been killed at any time early on just like the others if you just lined up a shot into them and hit them with your golf ball, Manly you are probably the only person that ever played this game who didn't think to do that.

The golf club is scary at the beginning as it is not ADA compliant with only stairs or a steep hill to climb, locked door and a fence you must climb over..

11:20 same, cause the “I can’t pick up my bag if I’m not looking at it” thing is so overly specific that it’s like it’s possible for the player to, but if they do then humans will see that they are a monster

I feel like when the game said not to hit the ball over the cliff wall that was a clue that is supposed to make you try to do that, and then you find the dead body and think oh I must have hit the security guard when I hit the ball blindly over the wall. Then manly just went the way he’s supposed to and the game wasn’t prepared and just put the body there anyway.

Hello there, Manly, i am currently suffering due to my dog being very sick, as i believe it is dying. Thank you so much for your videos, your nonchalant commentaries and the way you play the games is making everything a lot easier to me, distracting me from her situation

Theres so many compliments I could give this game from the tutorial development to the style put on it but I really just have to mention that the way it was portrayed that the player character was uncomfortably staring down NPCs was very skillful and stylistic.

Glad to see even Manly was feeling the tension of these enemies. Props to the dev, they're incredibly well tuned. They give you just enough pressure to feel like they're unfair (they aren't) and that does wonders with the way they are constantly harrying you mixed with the intentionally clunky way you have of dropping the bag and taking the clubs and getting locked in on the golf ball to hit it. Eventually, you stop trying to slowly aim the shot and just try to get the ball moving downrange while keeping them in your peripherals. It's masterful stuff.

Felt a lot like the main message was like, man v nature, how the beauty of the land was razed to make a golf course, and then the player character comes along worshipping golf, and then the company is hired to help fend off the reclaiming of the course by nature, but nature takes a hold of their minds and turns them against the player character

"this body cannot swim" That is such a great line. It raises so many questions and gives the game a creepy sensation even before the enemies arrive (assuming the player is curious and discovers it early on). Loved it, and the game's really memorable! Also I may have to buy the soundtrack, dang that final boss theme is rad.

Well...at least they were nice enough to let the vessel go home afterward.

This is the type of horror I’m here for! From the NPC interactions being goofy to the “Vampire” stalkers being unsettling, the woods section ramping it up to spooky, and the final boss being kinda scary? Amazing. (Plus, right after you finish it goes right back to goofy.)

The game reminds me of an old bizare japanese game about a girl trying to rescue a friend from an evil scientist by playing golf. I remember it because the game have an unexpected and sudden sad ending.

I know it's video game logic but the entire time I was watching the second half of the video I was thinking "why doesn't the person just pick up the ball and carry it there"

I actualy got frustrated the parasitic vampire zombies kept getting in the way of playing golf. I also really liked that one hole where it said don't shoot over the cliff. I think they expected the player to immediately try, and then when you run around, you see your ball laying next to a dead body and be like, oh, crap, did I kill this guy?

I can't wait to see the completionists that managed to get birdies and highers in that game while trying to avoid those creatures. It sounds like a fun challenge.

Great indie game. Was wondering how they'd implement the horror part in golfing, and if it was like the other golfing horror game where you just run from a monster. The peekaboo stuff and the lightbulb golf ball mechanic was cool.

I HATE WHATEVER THAT GIANT FACE WAS IT WAS AWFUL IM GLAD ITS DEAD In short this was a pretty good game, huge props to the animators it was unnervingly smooth

I'm guessing the protagonist was possessed by .. something? They didn't know where they were at the end. That sure seems like the reaction of someone who woke up at a location with no memory of the past night. And there was talk of the pc 'wearing a suit' or something. By what I'm unsure. Maybe nothing good since the tree described us a trying to keep our dinner But maybe helpful? If not directly beneficial.

This game was awesome! And im really enjoying these liminal-esque games on the channel recently, they're very dreamlike and calming. But even aside from that, this game was masterfully paced, and I loved how all the mechanics interlaced and ratcheted up leading to that climax! Great job of taking something simple and giving it depth
