Man, a company still servicing (to the best of their ability) a 74-year-old microphone model is such a wholesome thing.

True! One of my favorite things about Neumann. When you buy a Neumann mic, it’s a lifetime investment. One of the reasons to invest in a great mic early instead of buying several cheap mics over time.

Well made video & everything remained on-topic. I'm an industry veteran of 40 years....& an esteemed mentor of mine 55 years inside the industry also has much respect for Herr Schneider. He's younger than either of us but is on the correct wavelength. I've a couple of minor pull-up points ....nothing worth bleating about. It's sad but true untrained "home" producers are naive with respect to the fact that they run a a microphone for several decades with inconsideration about the "gubbins" that the capsule collects, the pop filter & microphone inner mesh cannot stop everything spat onto the capsule. A total capsule replacement is overkill. Neumann are built to last & that goes for their capsules unless the product was totally neglected in a sewer. A good repair technician can clean the capsule with a very very fine brush & distilled water (& appropriate heater moisture reduction) & even retention if necessary.

Great video. It really shows how professional and dedicated to sound the people from this company are and the precision that goes into the production of their excellent mics. I personnaly love my Neumann TLM103 (and my KM184 mt stereo), which is by far the best of all my actual mic collection, and if I will buy another one I feel it has to be a Neumann (maybe a U87 ai). The final result in terms of recording (vocals and acoustic guitar in my case) was very convincing of that higher quality (when comparing with other good reputed options under the same conditions; effectively all mics recording the same source at basically the same distance). Thanks for your videos.

Nice music, hopefully made by nice musicians..., so true and funny...! We all have our good days, and not so good days I guess!.. Very much into making my microphone collection work in a way so that I can use minimal or zero EQ in mixdown.. So learning about microphones is most interesting and have been curious as to the perspective of a designers perspective. Love my TLM 102, but most impressed with the monitors and headphones, the accuracy has evolved my production, thankyou Neumann and thankyou A.U. for making this interview!

If a recording engineer is not yet dependent on the excellence of Neumann microphones, to the point they pack them in their carry-on, it is just a matter of time.

Thank you very much for great film. I have a question: I have a Neumann TLM 103 Studio Set (over 10 years). Now I am going to buy the second one. I'm going to buy TLM 103 Mono Set, to have both of them in one case. But what with natural differences between two microphones: one old (over 10 years) and the second one - brand new? Is it possible to match a new TLM 103 to the old one? I'm hesitating between purchasing the Audio-Technica AT-4047 SV/SM or the Neumann TLM 103 Mono Set. I record classical chamber music. Thank you for answer in advance. Below I attach list of mics which I have: - AKG C 414 XLS x 2 (stereo pair) - AKG C 414 B XLS x 2 (stereo pair) - AKG C 414 B XLII x 2 (stereo pair) - AUDIO TECHNICA AT-4050 SM x 2 - AUDIO TECHNICA AT-4021 x 4 (two separate ones AT-4021and two in stereo pair AT-4021P) - NEUMANN TLM 103 Studio Set - RODE NT1-A x 2 - SHURE SM 57

You've got a great collection of mics! Awesome! That's a great question. I'm not really sure of the answer, but I see what you mean. I wonder how much the sound of your mic has changed over the last 10 years. Only one way to find out!

I was not sure what to choose: Audio-Technica AT-4047 SV/SM or Neumann TLM 103 Mono Set... In Poland we have an old proverb: when two are fighting - the third benefits :) Finally I bought stereo set of Austrian Audio OC-818 Black Dual Set Plus (cyber week, of course...). The very first impressions are positive :)

Have a question,how can I make mics to cut through a live performance where other instruments are very loud especially drums
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity 10 месяцев назад
I usually begin with vocals during sound check. For big rooms, this helps prioritize the vocal and build everything else below the vocal. For small rooms, the drums are loud even without reinforcement. So starting with the vocal makes sure you’re getting the most out of your system’s headroom (in an attempt to balance the reinforced vocal with the acoustic drums).
