Gavin started his "Small Advantages" RU-vid channel a couple years back as a hobby, which helps Portugese speakers learn English. Since then, it has blown it up into something big enough to let him quit his real job.
Since a similar thing happened to my own "Mr. Money Mustache" blog a few years ago (even though I had already quit working earlier), we decided to talk about building a following and sharing the numbers behind how views can translate to MONEY.

p.s. Apologies for my beginner tech skills here - I got the nice camera going, but obviously it should have been on a higher tripod. And we could have used some closer directional microphones as well. It's all some good learning and it is fun to gradually figure this stuff out. I might even do more videos!

You really should do more RU-vid. You might reach an even larger audience. Personally while I love your blog I don't really keep up with it but I watch all my favorite RU-vidrs daily. And you have a your huge backlog of blog posts to mine for video ideas.

In 2021 Gavin has 2.05M subscribers. He is quite popular among Brazilians studying English. MMM, I am a Brazilian that moved to US with Wife 9 years ago, and being money responsible, and big savers is our key to build our financial independence. Your videos, and other RU-vid channels are a big help. Thanks

It can take a while to build a channel, but it can be worthwhile. Gotta love the topic, and making content should be natural. If you have to struggle for ideas because it's not your forte, you should try to find your real forte. The topic should come easy. I'm glad I found your channel! I certainly like a lot of your perspectives on finances. I never could understand buying a car on credit, aside from the purpose of building credit. I'd rather let wealthy people pay the depreciation. You might consider the topic of dumping all RU-vid net profits, once you have some after deductions, into a Solo 401k, up to the $48,000 total max. It's a position I hope to be in at some point. I'm nowhere near that yet, but goals are good.

Mustache so many people are posting all of your videos under the licensing fair use act you should repost all of your videos on your channel also one of the things that this Portuguese guy has going for him is that he does it consistently it looks like you haven't posted here in a while I just found you myself so I hope you post post and post and I did subscribe you're doing a great interview I'll go back to listening I'm only 3 minutes in

What advice would you give to a military service member/family as far as saving to be Financially Independent? It's tough to save when given little notice before being restationed and I wonder what your perspective is on housing and things like that for military families.

Max out your TSP, shop for Kids clothes at the base thrift shop, Shop at the commissary and use coupons, buy cars from the Lemon Lot, and take advantage of all the free and low cost recreational and familiy activities and rentals provided by all the facilities (gyms, golf, Camping, vacationing at temporary lodging worldwide, Bowling, Easter egg hunt, Family Festivals, etc). A PCS really shouldn't affect your savings rate, especially since the military covers all moving costs and sends packers to do all the work. When you get promoted, keep living at your current income level and invest the rest.
