Ward is out here posturing like he wanted all that smoke but when Canelo was set to face Kovalev back in 2019, he made it public that he'd refuse to come out of retirement even though he admitted he was facing pressure from the industry with his phone ringing off the hook (his words). He'll always be bitter because he was supposed to go down as this era's ATG based on the hype but his resume simply didn't measure up. The pinnacle of his career was winning the super 6 tournament but afterward he rejected a unification with long reigning champ Bute and never attempted undisputed in all his years at 168. He would end up going four straight years in his prime without facing a champ period then finally fought Kovalev but after a controversial decision and low blow win, he decided to pull an early retirement in a stacked division knowing it wasn't going to get any easier with Beterbiev as his mandatory and Bivol waiting in the wings. He left legacy and money on the table just to keep his 0 intact when we already saw him lose it the first time vs Kovalev. He turned sour on Canelo when he moved up and started doing the things Ward refused to do in his own divisions, even taking Plant under his wing to try to stop him from becoming 4 belt undisputed because he knew it was a bad look on him for the smaller fighter from his era to be first to do it. Canelo handed two Ls on that night. Canelo as the smaller man also took out the biggest name on his resume and didn't need a low blow to do it. And again, Ward made it public he didn't want that smoke despite rumors that he received a DAZN offer. Canelo even returned to 175 by choice to face a second champ who represented the most difficult style matchup for him unlike Ward who who preferred retirement than to take those risks despite being a full grown light heavyweight. Meanwhile Canelo already went above and beyond fighting from 140 to 175 and facing more champs than any fighter today yet continues adding to his generational resume. He just beat a fellow undisputed champ in a fight so one sided people had to grasp at straws about size when Canelo is an ex 154lber himself and the shorter of the two. Never mind Canelo also won every round against Smith who had a massive size advantage and stopped Plant who Ward predicted would KO him. The ironic part is Ward saying he's not impressed by Canelo's career is just a condemnation against himself because he never put in the same work or took the same risks as Canelo.

Ward only beat 5 champions in his whole career. He retired at 33. His undefeated record, and the boxing world super series is the only thing he can hold on to. Canelo is 33. He has defeated 19 world champions. Undisputed 168, and has defended them a record 4 times. Ward is just jealous. I would love to see Canelo ruin Wards undefeated record and send him to the shadow realm

Question,so Dre said it was strategic for Canelo to fight kovalev when he did… do yall think the same for Terence and Errol,kause let’s not forget they was supposed to fight 5 yrs prior,Terrence had the opportunity to leave top rank but he decided to RESIGN,which put more time on making that fight happen,not only the Errol fight but the porter fight as well,you can’t say that for one situation and not the other…..

Saw Ward fight live in his pro debut at then Staples Center in Los Angeles on the Tarver-Johnson undercard. Unfortunate that he wasted the majority of his prime with injuries and in court with legal disputes. Now he's pimping his book and trying to get a Canelo relief check. Too late.
