Hi Renee! great video! I have a question for you. I'm trying to decide if I should go to school for cosmetology or esthetics. my passion is really skincare and makeup, but I feel that it may be easier to get clientele and become a cosmetologist. can you still work as an esthetician with a cosmetology license with some extra courses in advanced skincare? +Diana Buckley Hi Diana, Yes, most places you can work as an esthetician under your cosmetology license but you would just need to ask business for which you are applying for their requirements. +Diana Buckley It's always good to get continuing education regardless, but as for additional training, it really depends on where you work and what kind of procedures they offer. Most schools don't offer specific training such as dermaplaning and laser procedures that could be offered at skin care practices. But generally no, it is legal to do skin treatments as a cosmetologist.
+Renée Rouleau Skin Care Great! I was looking into doing continuing education at the International Dermal Institute in New York if I decide to get the cosmetology license. In your experience, would it be better for me to just pursue an esthetician license? I'm afraid I won't be able to find work and that it's super competitive. Totally clueless??? What's the difference in a beautician and a esthetician. (Took me a second to spell it right.). I love everything you beauty makers do. Just wasn't quite sure what the difference was. So appreciate if anyone could tell me. Thanks
An esthetician is someone who does skincare, waxing, lashes, etc. A beautician typically refers to people working in the beauty industry like estheticians, hairdressers and nail techs.
