Azuwueze Okere Stop saying rubbish like this. Ask yourself this unbiased quesition: Was Awolowo ever elected the president or prime minister of Nigeria inhis day? Awo was a leader of the Western Region only. Period! Zik was ceremonial president of Nigeria, hence, his constitutional responsibilities was not for the East only but the entire country unlike Awo whose electoral responsibility starts and ends in the west. Or do you expect him to build a Cocoa House in Onitsha, first class university in Awka or First Television station in Owerri?
He is a tribalist. Caused problems between itsekiris and ijaws concerning land and who gets what. He made an itsekiri king olu of warri rather than ode of itsekiri...warri is very multicultural and from my knowledge the urhobos or okpes were on that land first. I'm not discriminating anyone but Awolowo favoured the itsekiri at the time causing confusion.
Not rival between west and east ,it's just in nature of east that decided to made coalition with north and ignore the west to form coalition government
@@pearlspearls4620 East can choose who they want. The west can survive without any of them. But if East chooses North. is their choice and it's just politics and that doesn't mean hatred toward the west.
@@aghonelego2379 you are right due to your point that the arrangements of British . Then why the east are blaming their self on choosing north after betrayal of Awolowo to choose north
The greatest president Nigeria never had. Just as an example of how far thinking this man was, even the United States, the most advanced society of the world hasn't seen the importance of two of his four cardinal principles of his progressivism - free healthcare for all, free education for all at all levels. It is rather ironic that people accuse him of tribalism. Awolowo implemented his programs in the Western region alone because he was the premier of the western region. Had he been leader of the entire nation, the same benefits bestowed by his visionary leadership would have been extended to the rest of the country. This is very basic logic. But Nigerians, particularly the Ibos, fueled by their resentment at having lost the war were blinded by the propaganda of their clannish leaders and opinion makers to denigrate this excellent individual.
for those trolls still carrying the residual hatred and jealousy of Awo. Compare this interview with that of the Saurduna, Then decide who was the tribalist. The people of the west did not honor him because he biased towards them, they honored him because he LED. He the courage to show them the future and help to chart a way towards that future. Every tribe who live in the west benefited from the policies (free education , health etc). so pls read and stop the ignorance

There is nothing wrong with identifying with your ethnic group. Let the world call you a tribalist. It's your identity, there's no need to be apologetic about it.
As much as I wish for one Nigeria. I think one of his biggest mistakes was trying you unite a disunited country... He should have focused all his energy on Western Region perhaps the other regions would have become competitive and try to develop theirs too. Maybe we would have had a better Nigeria by now.
The best president Nigeria never had.He had a good vision for Nigeria but those northerners who are still holding the destiny of Nigeria in their hands till today never allowed him to be the president.Nigeria would have been like UAE .But the enemies of progress never allowed it to happen.
I share the views the Great Leader Chief Owolowo expressed on that interview that Nigeria should remain one. I would add that more States should be created as to bring developments nearer to our people
I share the same opinion with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo that Nigeria should be one country. Also that more States should be created as to bring developments to various areas of the country. New States will bring more job opportunities for the unemployed. New Universities would be built and new cities developed and many advantages that will follow. I believe in one Nigeria but not like the present APC government in power today.
Oyo state is bigger than ibo 5 states put together and ibadan is bigger than all their capital cities put together. Therefore, Oyo should be slitted into 4 more states.
For those of you chickens saying this man isn’t a tribal elitist; how do you intend to make sound judgements off of just this interview?? Go dig up the bills this man was fighting for during his time as Premier. He is a reasonable man of respect no doubt, but he’s obviously selfish and no one would openly admit that
If you have proofs please share. There is no need for insults. I wish he had been selfish enough to stay in the Western Region instead of trying to create a better Nigeria. It's because he cares that what gave you the audacity to insult him.
U don't even know what you are saying, and neither do you understand yourself. Im from the Midwest region now known as South South. Am a proud product of Awolowo legacy of free education for all, free health for all. Never again have I seen a man so consumed with passion to serve humanity and deliver dividend. Till today, his descendants are also revered. From me, my children, grandchildren and generations to come, we shall continue to thank God for the life of Obafemi Awolowo never minding critics. The 'man' touched my life without him even knowing it.

I prefer the version of Awo the tribalist much more than Awo the nationalist. Nigeria is not and has never been a nation, all of it's so-called nationalists are only thieves who want a piece of the pie. And look at how the Hausa-Fulani have treated every so-called Nigeria nationalist. Awo should have fought for Yorubaland to stand on it's own, we would have been better off and so would the Igbos have been too.
