Great interview! It was interesting hearing a discussion of the pros and cons of doing a lot of genre switching as this is an issue I struggle with a lot as a smaller artist - a huge part of what gets me excited with songwriting is exploring different sounds and moods, but as an aspiring independent artist I'm concerned that the pre-existing following I've worked so hard to earn might lose interest if they don't like potentially even one new song. My heart tells me to just create work I love but most music marketing people seem to say consistency of sound is key to early growth (then you can do what you want once enough people are already interested). I'm really tempted to just keep switching the sound up because it more fully represents my creative brain, but it sucks knowing that has a high chance of pulling me further away from the dream of earning a living through music...
