A slightly longer video on Coppicing, a traditional woodland managment method. It's a task that I undertake in my professional capicity to help manage woodlands for wildlife but also to harvest sustainable green wood for bushcraft and Forest School. I hope you enjoy

That's a fab, really useful video - a good refresher for anyone who is forest school trained as well!

If you were doing this in any way professionally wouldn't you use a chainsaw?
@swtforestschooltraining9334
Hi Stephen thanks for your comment, Chainsaws can be used on larger neglected coppice stools (making sure you have the correct training, insurance and PPE). But for the regular coppicing of small size coppice poles, hand tools are still used and a good option. Particularly if you are only harvesting small areas of coppice materials and working with volunteers/children/young people/Forest School learners. Much of my work is based around the coppicing of hazel to make use of small hazel poles for green wood working and crafting as part of Forest School, so often I am only coppicing a few coppice stools at a time (which often provides a lot more material then you first think).

Does anyone else think that safety is dumb? Lol. You have a skull for a reason. I live in AMerica, I can be as unsafe as I want lol btw, America doesn't know yet what coppicing and pollarding is... mostly at all. The only American that I know of who knows about that is EdibleAcres. Oh and I also coppice and pollard. Just testing it out, though. I'm not sold on the idea, but I'm trying it with oak, maple, and curly willow.

You are free do what you want on your own property, but when working in education we have HSE regulations to follow just like you have OSHA over there. Health & Safety regulations have saved countless lives and kept workers safe in many industries where they were not protected by their employers in the past. It's not dumb.
