I'd argue that everyone is in it to make money or profits. The investors want to earn a return on their investment. The borrowers want to borrow money so that they can build their businesses and turn a profit. To say that only the banks are in it to make a profit is inaccurate.

Hi. Yeah there is a lot to learn as a novice and the jargon doesn't help! On that last point try "what do investment banks actually do?" and it will hopefully clarify the difference between retail and investment banking. Tim.
