Thank you for these videos. I am currently going through catechises at a local LCMS church, and have been learning a lot. Although, I must admit, that Orthodoxy really itches at my heart and mind. I look forward to the journey ahead, wherever it may lead. But, we must always put Jesus Christ above all. God bless you, Dr Cooper✝️

There is a lot that I love about EO as well, but I just can't get past their excessive Mariology. For me, it seems to border on idolatry. No one is to be exalted above Christ and no one is to be considered His equal in practice either.

Raised Pentecostal and still somehow a Charismatic but now a I serve God in a Lutheran Church. In my view, Lutheranism is by far the most underrated orthodox Christian theological tradition. Those who are more intellectual inclined and are thinking to become Calvinists or Roman Catholics, make sure to take a look at the Evangelical Lutheran Faith and Piety before becoming Calvinists or RCs. Anyway, God Bless all Christians brothers and sisters.

In the 1500’s Martin Luther claimed Jesus Christ intended at the Lord’s Supper for His flesh and blood to be put “in, with and under” the bread and wine. For 1500yrs it had been Christian consensus and Christian tradition that Jesus Christ intended at the Lord’s Supper for the bread and wine to become His flesh and blood. Jesus Christ said “this is my body” and “this is my blood” - nothing whatsoever about His flesh and blood being “in, with and under” the bread and wine like some sort of bread and wine sandwiches. The idea that Martin Luther got it right with his totally unique theory and the Catholics/Orthodox had got it wrong for 1500yrs is utterly preposterous.

Heretical prayer: O Mother of Perpetual Help, thou art the dispenser of all the gifts which God grants to us miserable sinners; and for this end He has made thee so powerful, so rich, and so bountiful, in order that thou mayest help us in our misery. Thou art the advocate of the most wretched and abandoned sinners who have recourse to thee: come to my aid, for I recommend myself to thee. In thy hands I place my eternal salvation, and to thee I entrust my soul. Count me among thy most devoted servants; take me under thy protection, and it is enough for me. For, if thou protect me, I fear nothing; not from my sins, because thou wilt obtain for me the pardon of them; nor from the devils, because thou art more powerful than all hell together; nor even from Jesus, my judge, because by one prayer from thee He will be appeased. But one thing I fear: that in the hour of temptation I may through negligence fail to have recourse to thee and thus perish miserably. Obtain for me, therefore, the pardon of my sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace ever to have recourse to thee, O Mother of Perpetual Help. This is a legit Roman Catholic prayer, look up "O Mother of Perpetual Help" if you want to know if it’s legit. This is super heretical. What's interesting about Luther is that most Protestant denominations will adopt him as part of their traditions, in some subtle way. Even if it's historically incongruent. This is anecdotal, but I've hardly met many conservative Lutherans compared to Baptists and Presbyterians. Not a surprise, since Baptists seem to be the largest Protestant group in the USA, and most nondenom places are Baptists by another name. Yet, Luther exerts a bigger voice in these circles than many of their original leaders. I doubt most Baptists could tell you who the first Baptist pastor was, short of an absurd answer like "John the Baptist," but they'll have heard of Luther and maybe Calvin.

My wife and I currently attend a LCMS church. We have spent most of our lives in Reformed/Presbyterian churches. Why don't lutheran churches have both Elders and Deacons in every congregation? My understanding is that the LCMS does not have male Deacons. Most if not all Deacons in the LCMS are women, and I don't understand the biblical support for this. I understand there may be some biblical support for female deacons. I wonder why males are excluded from the office of Deacon in Lutheran Churches (at least in the LCMS)?

Was it the (A) Catholic Church, which formed 100s of years after the death of his apostles? or (B) A "breakoff" of the catholic church in the reformation (lutheranism, etc)? or even (C) A "restorative church"? or (D) no need for any organized church (as long as one has the bible and follows it more or less)?

With regards to the name Lutheran this was an accurate name for those who were originally in agreement with Luther, but after his death the teaching began to change until in the 1580’s with the Formula of Concord what Luther had taught on predestination was completely rejected. Luther in The Bondage of the Will had maintained that God has predestined everything that happens including who is to be saved and who damned, and he had denied that the Holy Spirit works universally through the Gospel. The FC though rejected this and denied that God has predestined anyone to hell, and maintained that the Holy Spirit operates universally through the Gospel. Since predestination is such an important issue it follows therefore that those who agree with the FC aren't in reality Lutherans but rather followers of the chief architect of the FC who was Martin Chemnitz. I'm in agreement with Luther that the Scriptures teach double predestination, and therefore I hold that Chemnitz taught false doctrine. Also along with Luther I hold that false doctrine is destructive of faith, and that the Holy Spirit doesn't allow Christians to believe false doctrine with the exception of those who are ill-informed but who are open to correction. How many so-called Lutherans however are open to correction is a difficult question because the official line is that double predestination is a Calvinist error which shouldn't be tolerated, so I imagine there's only a minority who will be open to admitting that they're wrong and who would accept that God does predestine people to be damned.

Luther referred to reason in two different senses. When he said that reason is the Devil’s whore he was referring to unregenerate people’s common sense rejection of Christian doctrine. For instance if one was to evaluate Christianity according to one's common sense one would likely reject that Jesus was the Son of God and that he came back to life after his death. However when it comes to logical reasoning on the basis of Biblical teaching then Luther employed reason to its fullest extent.

@Edward-ng8oo Luther believed that everything that entered his mind had been inspired by the Holy Spirit, so logic was to him, demonic.

"You don't get to say "I'm a Lutheran" and then disagree with half the things in the Augsburg Confession... ...By name that just doesn't fit, you're something else. You're Anglican, because they don't have... (realizes what he's saying, can't stop the train anymore) ...y'know, clear enough doctrinal statements." What a polite shot to the heart. Only Dr. Cooper, ladies and gentlemen.

You've been a huge help to me in the last few years. I attended my first Lutheran service last Sunday and plan to go back this week. Big change for me, but you've helped me see the value in being in a historic denomination and how to discern the right one. Thank you

Only one Gospel: The Gospel of Reconciliation. Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself. We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness. If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever. Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM (god).

1. Can you point out from any official teaching of the Catholic Church that Catholics are required to confess every single sin they did? I left the Catholic Church for years, returned and went to Confession. When I told the priest that it was impossible for me to remember all past sins of those years, he told me those sins can still be forgiven as long I had contrite heart. 2. According to 1 John 5:16-17 there are deadly (or mortal) and non-deadly (or venial) sins - that teaching did not originate from medieval theology as you claimed in the video. 3. Why the Catholic Church still teaches penance (to which indulgences are related) to this day and why the Reformers reject it? Eze. 33:13-16 says (ESV): “Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Again though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live.” Verse 13 says that the righteous will die when he sins. In contrast Luther taught believer can be both just/righteous (externally) and sinner (internally) at the same time, in Latin simul iustus et peccator (the title of the series you are presenting). According to verses 14 to 16, a sinner must (1) turn from his sin (or repent) and (2) do what is just and right (known as penance in Catholicism), to be back in life or regain his state of grace (in Catholic terminology). In contrast the Reformers taught that through faith alone all your sins (past, present, and future) are imputed on Christ who was already punished to pay the penalty of those sins on the cross. If that is the case, then there is no need of penance - no penance means no purgatory, and no indulgences. Your sins will be covered by perfect righteousness of Christ - even God the Father won’t be able (or pretend not) to see them. 4. According to Scripture it is righteousness that delivers from death (Pro. 10:2, 11:4). Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live (Pro. 11:19). In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death (Pro. 12:28). Jesus said in Mat. 25:46 that the righteous shall go to eternal life. Scripture does not teach two kind of righteousness. In Gen. 15:6 what was counted (Hebrew verb חָשַׁב, Strong H2803) to Abraham for righteousness is faith. But what was counted (the same verb חָשַׁב) for righteousness to Phinehas in Psalms 106:31 was not faith but what he did as described in verse 30 (in more detail in Num. 25:7-8).

Lutheranism.....A follower of Luther ? Sacred Scripture in its written form, (Bible) and in its oral form (Sacred Tradition)are both "inspired" and are interlinked . With all the man-made churches and denominations that have resulted from the Reformation, which denomination and Church is the only Church of God which is the Body of Christ. There can only be one.

Augustine changed christianity and brought new doctrines from pagan philosophies. Proof: Cambridge historian Ali Bonner's interview with Idol killer and Soteriology101. Church historian Gerald Bray: "It is virtually an axiom of historian theology that the doctrine of original sin, as we recognize it today, cannot be traced back beyond Augustine." Ken Wilson proved Augustine's thought roots coming from pagan heresies. Book: The foundation of augustinian-calvinism.
