We have had this tank established for a few months, I wanted to film a brief introduction to the tank. I highly recommend the Fluval. Any questions or comments, please pop them in the comments and I will try and come back to you. Thanks
I've had my 240 for two years now. A few tips; -If you fit a bit of course foam in to the inlet strainer it'll make your filter maintenance 100% easier. The foam will catch any large debris, leaves etc, and you can simply remove the strainer during your weekly water change and rinse it out. I only clean my filter every three months now, as opposed to once a month without the foam. It also stops shrimp from getting sucked up. My canister was a shrimp breeding ground before! It creates a nice little pre-filter. -Sit the canister in a large tub or bucket. It's good when new but the seals start to leak if the powerhead isn't fitted tightly. I'm glad I did this when I first set up my tank as one morning I came down to find my water level about 2 inches lower and found a bucket full of water in my cabinet. With the through-the-bottom pipes it'll never stop leaking until the water level drops below the inlet. AKA - 120 liters of water on your floor! The stand being made of chip board would be a complete write off. -Small personal preference. The heater that came with the tank exploded after a week. The shop I bought the tank from offered a replacement heater of the same type. No thanks! So I got the E300 instead. So much more subtle than the stupid ugly chrome tube and the temp can be seen from all the way across the room as it changes colour according to the water temp. I'm about to get rid of the plastic lid on mine and go full glass top with the light bar above. The light is a bit too close to the surface and gives a very obvious 'cone' effect with the upper corners being noticeably dark.
MickMaan some great tips there! Thanks so much for getting involved in the comments, and for your advice l! I will certainly look at the heater you recommend as we are on our 3rd and even this one has started to burn 🤬 Thanks again! 👍
Hello, good tips, I notice the tank has black corners, reminds me of the old metal cornered tanks of old, is it to hide the silicone ?…..where are you going to get your glass cover from ? And your comments about LED lighting do concern me. Did you have trouble with a leaking filter ? Thanks
Nice video, simple. Although yes, i would of liked to hear more about the lights unit, and how the lid fits with cables or wires etc? But thank you for showing us
deltoid4 thanks for your comments, I will try and knock some videos out explaining more detail. Got a bit camera shy recently which is why I haven’t posted more 😢
I have the fluval flex 123L and it filters very well, the pump is very good. How does that tank stay clean ? Where does all the waste go? I’m in need of a bigger tank now as my 1 fish has now outgrown my tank. I need a tank that is easy to clean and filter like I one I have.
Great video 👍 some questions, the Roma 240 is sold with an extra La filter, and you mention seal leaks, I had tremendous trouble years ago with eheim filters leaking, I also put them in a washing bowl, but shouldn’t have to do that as a ‘norm’ is there a solution ? Also LED lighting worries me, I don’t like the intense glare of LED lights, hate them as head lights in cars, but that’s another story, so don’t want to end up with migraines watching my ripical fish, would appreciate your thoughts. Had a fish tank many years ago, want to start again, but want to get it right thanks
@@MultiMb77 thats no problem. I was just wondering what your current stock is in the Roma 240. My current stocking is neon tetra, harlequin rasbora, rummy nose tetra, male fighter, pair of bolivian rams, honey gouramis, julii corys, otos, giant African shrimp and a SAE. Due to the amount of filtration, I have the capacity to add more, therefore looking at other interesting fish that are compatible. Thanks
Nayan Mistry hey, my current stock is: harlequin, neon tetra, molly, catfish, shrimp, Pakistani loach. If you want to add personality to the tank the Pakistani loach are amazing! They are around the clock active! Fun to have in the tank! Just make sure they are compatible with all the fish and they nibble at everything and everyone! 😂
@@MultiMb77 😄 i did look at the yoyo loach but read that they can suck the slime coat off fish. Im not much of a live bearer fan, mollys, guppies, etc. Killifish was another option but again fin nippers. I have found that my tank stocking options can be limited as it revolves around the fighter, but i wouldnt change anything.
Nayan Mistry yes indeed.. I had to buy a separate tank because our fighter.. it was happy with the harlequins, but we added a molly and it destroyed it.. so swapped out the harlequin into our large tank and left the fighter by itself and it sadly died a month later
What's the lid like on the roma? I have a flex and I hate the lid as its a pain to open there is nowhere to put it when your trying to work in it. Wish it was a sliding or had something to prop it up.
Great vid I would say the Ehiem is better main flaws with this tank is flow the inlet and outlet in same area not a good idea also the filter is on the limit due to head pressure and media
Nice tank set up was thinking of getting this tank but would definitely change the led lights. And I wouldn’t use the external filter I would replace that with Ocean 50 hydra’s
The obvious lighting would be the fluval aquasky bluetooth programmable i run a fluval 407 on my roma 200 slight overkill maybe but 07 series ard so easy to service separate baskets for media of your choice i actually use bioholme the fluval roma tanks great value the only thing i replacecd was the u series internal filter same on my roma 125 which has 307 cannister filter
I've noticed the input connection under the tank is leaking a bit.will I have to drain water down below input level in tank.i think if I try and tighten it I could leak everywhere and go on electrics.theres not enough room for two pairs of hands inside cabinet.help....
Do you already have fish stock in the tank?.. It is tight to get in there, I remember being nervous about that section leaking when I first installed it. Technically as long as you ensure you tighten it the correct way, then it shouldn't get any worse. I would ensure the area is dry, and the gently tighten. If you notice on my video, I laid down kitchen tissue to spot any leaks.
@@MultiMb77 yes😩 over £600! Picked one up 2nd hand with Aquasky 2.0 plus sand, lava rock & an fx4, heater etc for £270 mint condition so really pleased - set up a S American cichlid tank but sneaked in 3 African Butterfly Fish which are just the coolest fish!
How are you finding the filter connectors, I have been offered a new roma 240 with stand for £499 but am worried about the way the intake and outlet get into the tank...
Richard Brown hi, absolutely fine, was a bit nervous fitting them, as in if they came loose but they haven’t moved and it works very well, the whole system works fine
Had my eye on this tank for a while, definitely decided on it now. Pond planet still have it on for £529 and if you sign up with email you get 5% off your first order too, knocking about another £26 off it. Thanks for the video, one of the most useful and clearest on you tube. I was thinking of buying the spray bar extension for the input pipe, anybody tried this?
bettybobo99 thank you for your comments, you really won’t regret your decision! I have seen the spray bars, but to be honest I find the internal pumps absolutely fine, I have seen many people add in air and other things, but out of the box this tank is perfect for amateurs like me! Enjoy the tank! I was about to do some more videos as we are having lots of fry from molly’s Thanks again
bettybobo99 no problem, I will do a filter video early next week, Please bear in mind I have learnt by google, chatting with the store and kinda making it up as we go along, but it seems to be working 🤪 so no mocking!! Hehe
jericho2877 the FX6 is the largest one which measures 53cm, so this one wouldn’t fit in the cabinet in my video, the gap is 50cm. The FX4 would fit as that is 41cm. The 306 pump which is in my video measures 36cm. I am not sure about the fittings though Hope this helps
I'm looking to get this tank. Would the fluval 406 fit in the cabinet? I'd keep the 306 as a back up. I was also alittle concerned about the filtration coming in from the bottom of the tank. Did u get round to making that filter video. Would like to watch that if you did.
hey, this tank is great! I have measured the 306, which is 36 cm.. the Fluval website states its 46cm, so I can only presume that this include to the top of the pipe inlet/outlet. The website states that the 406 is 50.8cm, which is only 4cm larger. If this is also to the top of the pipes, then yes it would fit. I cant guarantee this though. I haven't yet, I really need to do more fish tank videos, I will get on it as I need to change the filters asap.
Thanks for the reply. Think i'll go ahead and get this tank. Looks great in the video. If the 406 doesn't fit in the cabinet then i'll just have to get a second tank😁
It won’t let me edit my post, how quiet is the filter, being in the lounge, I worry the noise will bother me, be nice if it couldn’t be heard being in a cupboard 🤞
Roma led 240 the lid is a bit flimsy the built in filtering system causes dead spots being all on end the middle portion of the cabinet is solid and is not a door the front glass bows to 4 mm ,,the eheim vivaline seems better quality but they are cheap
Agree with the lid, it is flimsy but once you get used to it it’s not an issue.. can’t comment on filter as I’ve never notice an issue.. same with glass bow.. and cabinet has never caused any issue as I use left side for cleaning instruments and feed and right side for pump. I obviously can’t comment on comparisons as this is my first tank 👍 but I am more than happy with it.. thanks a lot for your input though
Alfie Howie hello, so are you using your own base? The tank hasn’t leaked at all.. it’s extremely well built! May gets some drips for the filter when you disconnect it.. did you get it as a package?
The only downside to these tanks is if you want to change the filter for an fx4 or something and you don't have the inner and outer filter pipe caps to block the pre drilled holes off, they are expensive to buy!
Life_Is_1337 its another 150 to buy the cabinet lol. Pond-planet selling for 529 cheapest i can see been searching high and low for a deal to pop up for friday lol.
GoogleMe it seemed to be, it’s wasn’t that clear but the advert stated the 306 filter, so it must be.. bargain if it is!! The tank is extremely well built
This was recorded quite soon after establishing it and I think it’s just the light in the room making it look green, it was actually really clear here Now it’s a mess and in desperate need of a refit! We have a company coming round to do a professional job as it’s been neglected unfortunately 😢
