Let's be honest - most American food that "pretends to be" isn't very good in the first place. The Olive Garden is no more Italian than Taco Bell is Mexican. Good food is good food, period. Processed/mass produced/packaged crap, from any culture, is not going to be great, and for people used to eating real food, will probably be disgusting. She probably wouldn't like a frozen pre-packaged Walmart burger patty either, but I'm sure anyone would enjoy a freshly ground AAA sirlion burger. A better question is why North Americans have become so used to prepackaged/processed crap that they've become tolerant and accepting of its tastes. Is it because real, fresh food costs so much more here than in Europe?
I think she is just picky to heavily processed foods. Which many years ago wasnt to bad, but they figured out ways to add preservatives/use inferior quality ingredients to lower cost... I Remember probably 15 years ago hot pockets actually tasted decent now I cant stand them.
BTW, You know what the Swedes put on pizza? Pineapple & (drum roll..........) *b a n a n a*❗️❗️❗️ YASS❗️ 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌 The crazy thing is, it is kind of good... I tasted it years ago on a thin crust pizza with tomato sauce, mozarella, ham, pineapple & banana - Pizza Tropicale (on the Spanish Canary Island Lanzarote)...☺️😋
As an italian, you guys actually have a culinary culture compared to the US so thanks for everything, i used to go to a Mexican restaurant, awesome delicious food :)
Galex, and what you saw in the video is just the tip of the Iceberg. Every state in Mexico has its own dishes. I get surprised by the sheer amount of food we have here, even as a native Mexican
Interestung that the enchiladas and chile relleno came from Mexico but transformed in the south of us. Its not made like the original thou not as raw neither is the texture the same. We dont put yellow cheese on most mexican food and a few things on those dishes were twisted...
probably she's from Calabria, "the tip of the boot". I'm from northern Italy and her accent to me sounds like either Sicilian either Calabrian. When she said "I come from the Mexico of Italy", referring to the spicy cuisine, it's definetly Calabria. They have a really really spicy cuisine there. I love it!
I’m so happy Eva loved Mexican food! My grandma was from Sonora Mexico and my grandpa from Naples. I was truly blessed with the best food and the best cultures in my family. Saludos Eva y Harper! ❤️
@Brent Medeiros Portuguese cuisine is just well not well-known, just like Portugal's influence and existence. Although I'm sure it's delicious! If it's as good as Spanish cuisine I'd move there for the food and a better educational system (compared to Spain).
I love you guys 😘 May I please go on a road trip with you two? I have to bring my Krazy Jack Russell Terrier Wiggy but he will definitely help you rate food. 🤔 And protect you.🤨 We'll be ready and standing by. 🥳
@Silvia Tine The pizza is a Naples dish, Campania. We in Sicily have Arancini, pasta alla norma and other things, but the pizza is a Naples original dish
@@dramirezg70 Some Americans are Mexican, and some Mexicans are Americans (assuming that Americans has its usual meaning of "Person from the United States"). That doesn't mean Mexican food is American food. Mexican food is WAY better.
@@LeMayJoseph no Sir. All Mexicans are Americans, as we use the word American in Mexico for everyone in the continent down to Argentina. So Harper is right in applying the word. 😋
@@dramirezg70 if it doesn’t mean “from the United States of America,” then your definition makes as little sense, given that you just cut off all of South America. Who hurt you, Mexico?
@@dramirezg70 lol also, Harper is from the US, and this is what the word means in the US as well as throughout Europe, Australia, and much of the rest of the world. I think Mexico is in the minority with its definition here
Pasta Grammar Man I’m glad y’all are safe . Looks like y’all came thru Texas Monday or Tuesday when we got all those bad storms. Since your wife doesn’t like McDonald’s, take her to chick fil a and see if she can tolerate it. Lol
I want to see her reaction to an Italian sandwich created in New Orleans by Italian immigrants. It's called the muffuletta. Central Grocery is its birth place.
I love that Ava loves Texas . I lived in New York for 50 years and retired recently to El Paso Texas . I love it as well . I think it is the hidden gem of Texas ✌️😎
Fun facts: Mexican cuisine, being a mix of native tradition and Spanish influence shares interesting similarities with Southern Italian cooking. Italians have much respect and curiosity for Mexican cuisine although we have a hard time finding original Mexican food in Italy, and when we do it's really expensive. Bistecca is an "italianized" loan word derived from the English "beef steak" as Italians never did eat much of it at all. The Chianina beef race known for the Fiorentina steak was a draft animal until the late 1800 (and the largest domestic bovine race). As a matter of fact the only places in Italy with any tradition for proper beef steaks are Piemonte and Tuscany, due to French, English and American influences. Old nonnas from the South of Italy never eat rare beef and have the tragic tendency to prepare thin overcooked shoe soles when you ask them for a steak. Hence better to opt for breaded or chuck steaks when in the South.
@Stuart Riley Well Italy is divided into 3 macro-regions, North, Center and South. In the South eating rare meat is not very common even today. In the Center and North it is a lot more common, but mostly a 20th century thing. Interestingly, while Southerners are generally squeamish about raw meat, in the city of Bari in the deep South East they have a tradition of eating raw seafood. Carpaccio is NOT originally from Bologna, it's from Venice, adapted from an older Piemontese dish: as mentioned they are the original beef experts in Italy. Still you are quite right that Bologna is the main bastion of North Italian cuisine, although historically they would focus on milk cows for cheese and not beef meat, preferring pork for which they have a tradition that predates the ancient Romans.
But her pronunciation of "crêpe" was much more Frenchlike than his. Whenever I hear an American saying "crêpe", I understand "grape". But it should sound like "krepp".
Eva's reactions are one of the cutest and most expressive I have ever seen! Also her husband is fantastic at filming and cutting these clips. Congrats guys you deserve 1M subs :-)
Very disappointed. That steak was pitiful. As a Texan, I apologize. We usually don't skimp when it comes to meat portion sizes. If you're ever back in Texas, please take Eva out for some straight up Texas BBQ. There are some great BBQ restaurants in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area that I'm sure you'd both love.
Sorry Bud but it wasn't a beef burrito it was a street taco which in and of itself is made on a small tortilla.Al Pastor, which is a term for sheep herder,DIO LO BENDIGO🙏😋 MY
I"m so glad she likes southwest food. I live in Texas and love everything Mexican and spicy. That green chili chicken stew will definitely clear your sinuses. You should have ordered a rib eye for that steak.
God they are cute. The way Eva has so much passion for food is awesome. Harper wanting to please her is adorable. They way they work together snd enjoy each other. I am addicted to this channel.
You hit the jackpot on this lady she is so sweet and funny I recently just watched all your videos yesterday, you guys are amazing wish I can meet you one day👍
By the way, the spicy food in hot climates is normal, it actually helps to feel less hot and sweaty! It sounds counter intuitive but it’s true. Just like drinking hot tea when it’s hot.
Peppers grow well in hot areas, the intensity of the sun help with spice levels. It makes sense the stews and spicy stuff do well in those areas because people cooked with what they had/grew.
There is a Navaho and a Ute place in Salt lake . Soooo goood. The grannies there came out to see who was eating all this Navaho food. A little White Norwegian American gal. The said you are our new granddaughter.. come visit. I went back 6 months late and got a scolding. So I went back to visit say hi. They put me to work making fry bread. I brought some deer ( as in half a deer) a big dear. They had me come back in a week or 2 so that the boys could break the dear down and it could age a little. We got there and there was an address for us to go to. It was in the mountains. They had a family pow wow for us. my grannies wouldn’t let me help. The dads wouldn’t let my husband do anything. We were pregnant with our son. The women did a dance for me and gave my body a blessing. It was just the women. It was lovely. All that to say... the food was soooooo good.
It really is. I grew up in Tennessee and had barbecue from all around. North Carolina pork is my favorite, but Texas is bomb too. I grew up with more pork so I love it the best. I do a Texas style brisket more now since I live in Wyoming and we have a lot of good beef here.
I am pleased to see Eva trying and liking Mexican food, as I've always wondered how Italians view Mexican food. When she tried the enchiladas, I was kinda expecting her to see how similar it is to cannelloni. Should have came to Dallas and tried Ojeda's tex-mex if you like the spicy salsa!
Aha! That is how they wound up in Arizona. I always wondered how Eva knew she wanted to live there. I hadn't seen this old episode. Warms my heart. I'm from New Mexico and yep, our green chile is the best.
As I like to say, the "Mexican" dishes I love the best are mostly actually from Colorado and New Mexico. Both states are too dry for my taste, but man I love the food.
I love watching these videos even though I’ll never eat food again by mouth. Since tongue cancer all my meals are via PEG tube. I still love cooking for my wife and close friends.
If you stop in New Mexico in the morning you have to go to Blake's lotaburger. For breakfast get you a Christmas breakfast burrito, trust me they know what it means. Then try a Navajo taco and green stew, SOPA piaz are to die for!!!
"How do you know that pinaple does work on pizza you never tried it"..."it just doesnt work"....well you cant argue that hahah..im so glad i stumbled on your channel...
The cross country flavors was an amazing idea although passing through texas at the worst time lol, if you guys pass through Memphis TN you HAVE to try some real Memphis style barbecue they've unlocked the secrets to bbq ribs!
I wish you had green chile in southern New Mexico. That was not proper chile Verde (the unappetizing looking, but tasty stew). Hatch green chile is world famous for its flavor and the local restaurants have appetizing looking food as well as tasty. Still, it is good to see Eva enjoying the regional cuisine.
Sorry, but I’m from Southern California. And certain types of Mexican food are ours. I know Mexico is a big country with many cuisines, but I’ve never had a Mexican food I didn’t love!
So funny to catch up with you two, two years later… I feel bad for your feeding Ava such awful things!🙏🏼 She is used to real food and what an AMAZING Cook🙏🏼
Oh My God Dude...what did you do? You're finally winning her over with the American classic dishes like those Green Chili Enchiladas and some of which she doesn't even want to share with you. Claps to you Dude. I had some great and spicy Southwestern food when I was in Arizona myself many years ago.
Eva, when you come back through New Mexico I'll make you some real green chile stew- that wasn't a good example. Glad you love our spicy green chile as much as we do! As for why we eat green chile in a hot climate, it's part of the culture. Hot, dry environments are perfect for growing chiles.
I had to stop at 5:04 yayyyyyyy!!! Eva you loved our tacos!!! Street tacos are always THE best. Ive always wanted to have tacos from California. I have to agree with the lady in the comments Italian and Mexican food are the best. Now to continue watching the video 🙂
I can't believe you went all the way to the south west and missed Santa Fe New Mexico! They are famous for their Hatch chilies, there are books on it and they even decorate their houses with it. If you ever go back, one thing you will only find there from Native American roots is called a Sopapilla. It's kind of a fried pillow of dough that can be sweet or savory, they are really good just with honey. Skipping Santa Fe Chile is like driving through Naples to get pizza in Rome.
I was amazed that they just breezed through New Mexico with barely a mention. New Mexican cuisine is its very own thing and well worth exploring! And I don't think I've had a decent tamale since I moved away.
We really wanted to stop in NM but we were passing through at odd hours and weren’t able to shoot anything. But luckily that gives us an excuse to go back!
@@PastaGrammar If the world is in a better state next year, you should go to the Hatch Chile Festival in Hatch, New Mexico. The aroma of roasting green chiles fills the air, and the food is amazing. You'll love it!
@@PastaGrammar you really have to, New Mexico is rich in Native/Spanish tradition. The terrain goes from extreme desert to beautiful mountains and falls, many of the smaller towns have an old feel to them (mostly due to the signs/stores from the past i.e 1940's-1950s). Another thing to note is the huge art scene in Santa fe and Taos. Many museums and galleries nestle themselves amongst the "high fashion" clothing shops in the downtown area. Don't even get me started on the excellent restaurants! Once the pandemic is under control, we of course welcome you back to New Mexico! =). Be safe and thank you for sharing your journey!
AEPILOTJim is 100% correc. In Amarillo (where Big Texan is), I still give top stars to Cowboy Gelato on Rte 66. Gigantic swiss cheese & mushroom topped burger followed by one of twenty gelato flavors.
Well. It’s still open and always busy. So while it may be on the low end of what Texans consider a proper steakhouse, it’s an experience for people that aren’t native.
When Eva said: 'Italian Crap (crepe)' 😂 Americans get a bad rep for their food, just like us Irish and the British as well. I'm sure you get good and bad food everywhere. You just got to know where to look. Love the videos guys, stay safe!
@@supertobino Hello there friend. I get what you are saying. But I think what I am saying is true when you think about it. There is good and bad food everywhere. Some places more than others. I have travelled a lot and that is my experience. Anecdotal, but I think the most nuanced perspective. Thanks!
Jura Gneiss sure. I have had both the worst and the best food of my life in venice. and both some of the best and surely the most mediocre food in london. my point was that in some countries there seems to be a generally higher culture of quality. and I don’t necessarily mean rich countries...
@@supertobino Totally agree. In my opinion, in some countries food is used to, well, feed the body and they don't even try to brag about their gastronomy. In some other countries, food is like a religion, it's a part of the history, it's a passion and people tend to be very picky about it. I don't say it to offend anyone, it's just my personal experiences in different countries.
