Today we're making the Satan's Whiskers! This is an old prohibition era cocktail that's a riff on another gin classic called the Bronx Cocktail. The Satan's Whiskers comes from the exclusive Embassy Club in Hollywood in the late 1920s (it's no longer there - poor business decisions 😬). There's two versions of this drink - you can have your Satan's Whiskers "Curled" with curaçao or "straight" with Grand Marnier. The differences are subtle - so a side-by-side tasting is necessary. Cheers!
Grab these bottles from my collection at Curiada! 👉 bit.ly/Andersb...

Straight or curled? 😈 EDIT: There were a couple typos in the recipe cards so we put a blur over them - sorry for the confusion! Open Sea Leather 👉 rb.gy/neoikl Curiada 👉 bit.ly/Andersbottlepicks

It is going to be curled, just because here in Brazil we got Curaçao, and it is hard to get Grand* Marnier

Hi Az here! SORRY for the typos in the recipe cards, I was editing this into the wee hours last night and I totally spaced on those. Will put a blur on the incorrect measurements (sorry metric folks 😖) using RU-vid’s editing tools instead of re-uploading because we don’t wanna lose your wonderful comments and views. The blur should be on there in a couple hours. Thanks and cheers 🥂😅

Really liked how you split the video to show adding the different orange liqueurs at the same time. A small touch. Maybe only shaved a few seconds off the video. But I think it kept the pacing right and had a cool look to it. So, small goof on the metric conversions, but, overall, outstanding editing!

It works, I mean why use funny units when these drinks were developed they used the far superior imperial units, so much easier to measure and mix with jiggers!

🤣 I do metrics too Az, it's much easier for me when altering a recipe. It drives my family bonkers, but it works for me. It's much easier to halve 100 mL than it is 3.38 fluid ounces, right? Love your pops of artwork as the flash by too! You should do more of those when time allows. Cheers! 🍸🍸

Thought you would want to know: I live in a suburb of Detroit & we frequently go to dinner as we both work downtown in the Ren-Cen. Outside of an Old Fashioned & a Moscow Mule, not one bartender has heard of the drinks you make. Even the Ponchatrain, which is still 4 Star Michelin rated, says you are making these up as you go along.

Watched this, realized I had the ingredients and tried it! I had the curacao. It's good! I used to yhink I didn't like gin. But after this a few other cocktails (Not all tonight....) I realized, I actually like gin! At least the gins I've had lately. I finished a bottle of Bombay sapphire we'd had forever, and now I have a bottle of Aviation gin. Both quite nice! The Aviation has less of a piney flavor.

Congrats on the 100k subscribers award, and the further 22k since reaching the afore mentioned milestone (there seems to be no metric equivalent for a milestone, here in Australia we still have the odd milestone from yesteryear). Having now watched all of your videos I am not in any way surprised that you have reached this point. If this becoming your job/s results in “more sips, tips and recipes” more frequently I for one am all for it. Great job team, cocktail making privately and professionally is much more relatable thanks to your approach to, and execution of, these videos. In addition to a “straight” or “curled” Satan’s Whiskers I found a recipe for a “Enroulee” (missing the accent over the second of three eees) which apparently means curled in French and calls for Mandarine Liqueur. And furthermore, Satan’s Whiskers marcelled (defined as a deep soft wave in hair) using falernum and Fee Brother’s bitters. How about other versions using Campari or Aperol? Perhaps “Razored” or “Cut-throat” naming conventions could be adopted for some riff(the old school weighted folding blade razor, not the method of ….). I am really new to this whole “make your own cocktail” thing, Campari and Aperol could be completely inappropriate in this drink, with or without the clumsily suggested names.

I messed around with both the curled and straight recipes a couple years back until I got the best versions, and my recipes match your recipes exactly! HOWEVER, the Dry Curacao you used is probably not sweet enough for this drink, so I would use a more standard Curacao, preferably Señor and Co. Orange Bitters just stay way from the Angostura version but I prefer The Bitter Truth. Cheers!

Good video! Do wish you would have gone ahead and made one with Triple Sec, just to see how it turned out and stood up to the others. Guess I'll give that a try myself! Thanks!

Hi Anders!! Well, I am always going to try both versions!! Guaranteed!! But my prediction is that I will prefer the curled Satan's Whiskers!! It sounds fuller and getting more of a flavour of the vermouth usually appeals to me. But I know I am also going to enjoy the straight version of this gorgeous cocktail. I will let you know, as always!! Terrific content creation. You and Az have made a spectacular channel and what a treat it is to watch and learn! I left one message with congratulations but here is a second!! Way to go!! Keep having fun! I think we do our best work when we enjoy what we are doing!! Cheers!!

Thanks, Christine! I hope you do try these two - the differences were subtle, but there. They showed themselves more as the cocktails slowly rose in temperature. It was a fun comparison! I hope you enjoy them both! Cheers!

I think the curled one would suite me better! i tend to lean more towards the dry curacao in my other drinks with orange liquor as well!

Never tried the dry Curacao as of yet. Grand marnier seemed quite strong and syrupy sweet when I tried it at a bar by itself. This/these might be drinks I might enjoy. I just noticed that I could get the Pierre Ferrand at the Finnish alcohol monopoly Alko for the price of 36€ / 0,7 litre as I can get the same bottle for 21,50 € + shipping in Germany. This is what we're dealing with over here...

I few years back I added a dash of hot pepper bitters to the straight version is it was an eye opener, I figure it could be named Singed Satan Whiskers
