We stumbled upon an older kiteboarding bar from 2011. We remember these bars when they first came out. At the time we even knew the safety systems were not perfect. Around this time was when kiteboarding equipment was coming out with big improvements each year. 12 years later, we compare a modern bar with an "old" kiteboarding bar. The new bar we used is the Cabrinha COS bar www.cabrinha.c...

Interesting video! I wonder if the safety would have worked properly had the old bar been paired with a old kite from the same period.

Im pretty positive that kite wouldnt matter and that it has to do with the bar. Im sure you can take a new bar and old kite and if the new bar has a modern safety system, it would work on the old kite the same as a new kite.. Big differences with the older kites is the complex bridle systems with all those pulleys

It actually does, cabrinha used a special bridle which allowed te kite to roll over completely with the safety line on the two front lines. Nowadays, they switched to a one line flag-out. The new bridles aren't made to work with the old system, so the comparison honestly doesn't make that much sense from a safety perspective.

@1:19 did you just hook the quick release portion for your leash to your safety?

yes, theres a welded in area on the loop to hook the leash to

@@KiteboardingStPetersburg maybe I just haven't seen a leash like yours. Do you have a release handle at your harness connection still?

@@zachteel1502 yes I do and the leash uses a knot rather than a metal hook clip. I prefer the metal hook clip more
