An Opinion piece is just that. Just an opinion. There are things about these trains that people don't know. These cars Are equipped with doors that will isolate the cars. There Are pictures that show the isolation doors. These are Not the 75ft cars, where you are practically prisoners locked in a car. These cars have emergency switches that can be accessible to crews. They have isolation doors built into the bulkhead of the gangway cars that Can be used in case of emergency. All of the so called "concerns" have been addressed by the R and D team from personal experience And Rider suggested design points. the problem we are seeing is the usual New Yorker complaining about something they don't understand, so the immediate response is uncomfortable and filled with resentment. I don't see the problem with the cars, since it actually passes Specs for what it's designed for. What I do have a problem with is the ridged exceptional ism's New Yorkers have when dealing with something new. Immediate rejection, instead of embracing new opportunities. Hopefully,this silliness will go the way of the dinosaur. The People acted the same way when the R44/46 were first introduced. Even complained about the R62s.. over the whole "skinny seats" thing. If it's not One thing, it's another. All I say, is it doesn't matter how much the Naysayers whine..if the TA decides to go with the cars, which I'm sure they will, the public will have to get use to it. If they have a problem with these few cars,then they will Really be upset over the new IRT R262s. This contract will contain All gangway cars made up of 5 and 6 car sets. Or even the R268s, which are slated to be mostly Gangway sets.. Bottom line, you won't be able to please all of the people ALL OF the Time. You do what you can, and keep moving forward.
While testing these trains and looking for problems, the MTA can make adjustments to enabled to operate on both local and express and many routes, everything else about these trains should be positive in terms of improvement, reliability, comfort and safety
What's good about these 211ts is that the trains probably won't shake from side to side like what all trains do cause they have open gangways and that keeps the cars together instead of being apart like on regular trains where there are doors between the cars like they're being towed. But can these open gangways prevent the train from shaking from side to side like regular trains do or will they still shake from side to side cause that's the nature of a train?
This works well in a place like London. It’s nice but New York is a different beast. If more security is there, it will work but only so much. These type of trains are great for New Year’s Eve when it’s fun… but some clowns will mess it up…
They are not gonna mess up. You know why because they have video cameras on the R211Ts . All they have to do is play the video cameras and the NYPD will find the person.
Brother..I don't blame you for rejecting the carpetbagger opinion,(not a Seasoned New Yorker, but an import from another city, recently moved to NY, with no "real experience".) Carpetbaggers have always been a problem for city residents, since they tend to be the most "outspoken" for no particular reason other than to be seen and heard. Don't get me wrong.. not All carpetbaggers are loud mouth know it all's . I have a friend who moved here from Pittsburgh sometime ago.. and now enjoys "city life"(I never understood why he sez that,cause Pitt is a pretty nice place to live..but my dislikes are it's pretty Hilly.. steep hills.) Hes pretty content with his life,job moving here did wonders for him. 24hour marketplace,24 hour transportation.. what more can you ask for? I never listen to out of town folks who flap off with their mouth for browny points,or "likes" or retweets. The guy is simply a clout chaser, looking to 'influence' opinions based on his own. Address the issue. R211T have isolation doors built in the bulkhead. The "all local" situation is temporary for the moment. I'm wondering why you would make statements that aren't supported by facts? Even while "rejecting the opinion piece", you still harped out perception based on Speculation, not evidence. You Said You haven't been on the new cars,yet You formed an "technical based opinion,based on a disgruntled opinion of the Same person. Does That make sense? Hardly. Fact.. every thing you and the person who wrote the article was based Perceptions, and sensationalism. The MTA has been at the railroad game for a Long time.. You would think that they would know how to design a car with built in contingencies to deal with various situations, such as various BIO HAZARDS,that Can happen. The cars have communication capabilities via intercom features that talk directly to the train crew. The Present operation status is temporary,to evaluate the train's capabilities. Once the "testing" is completed and data is gathered, the cars will be released for optimal service. You already know this, but for the sake of "theater".well you know where I'm going with that. Like I said before, Opinion pieces are just that... just an "opinion" based on One or more "based Perception of a thing". Don't get me wrong.
