Put it this way, it's not that cheap, did you know that a lot of products you buy are actually subject to a fun trick where they sell you one thing for a loss and make the balance plus profit on the rest, play stations and nespresso machines are good examples the machines and consoles sell at a loss, the games and coffee pods make the balance and profit. We really need a big youtuber to make a video for modellers explaining all these pricing tricks that make things seem skew wiff with our hobby. Obviously there's no secondary market as such like that in models, unless we talk train sets *maybe* but even that is a bit debatable as to how much it really works as with this hobby, thus we pay up the full production costs plus profit needs on each product plus retailer markup which has also gone up as a portion of the price. This naturally has to be set to suit the smallest retailer with the highest needs, but it results in big retailers with economies of scale being able to then discount a lot of it as their profit per unit sold needs to be less hence the bargain offerings at larger retailers. But if the manufacturer direct sells at the lowest price they could that would do over that smallest retailer which well, we wouldn't like much. It's a messy and very misrepresented topic
