This is wild. She keeps saying "you haven't done the research" "you don't understand Cannabis" but that's the whole point! As a consumer buying the deck we shouldn't have to do too much extra leg work to understand and use the deck effectively. The knowledge we need should come from the guidebook like it does with every other deck. Keeping information light is not defying norms or being "out of the box" - it's laziness at best or lack of consideration for your customers at worst. Nope. Hard pass... What a shame...
It really sounds like the deck underwent a substantial change, and they didn't bother to edit the guidebook. The whole thing seems like a cash grab, with an unstable creator to boot. Very unfortunate situation.
I am BEYOND disgusted that you're dealing with this. How absolutely abhorrent. I'm so glad that you've heard back from Liminal11 at least tentatively and I certainly hope they cut this creator loose and apologize to those who have reviewed their decks (for free... let's remember that reviewers don't get paid for these reviews)! You absolutely should stand by your critiques which were on point, intelligent, thoughtful comments on your experience of the deck, it's structure, etc. No one should ever be harassed for giving an honest review, and the fact that this is a thing at all is so absolutely shocking to me. The bizarre thing is - even a critical review is free advertising - and can help spread the word about a deck... I regularly hear from folks who BUY the things that didn't work for me - so this is seriously an issue of a creator shooting herself in the foot. It makes absolutely zero sense to me... like even beyond basic human decency, attacking people who are reviewing your product is completely counterproductive. Yikes.
Yes! My reviews are based on my personal likes and interests. What works for me, may not work for someone else and visa versa. No matter how much I dislike a deck I'm not going to tell someone they shouldn't purchase it. I think our community is amazing because there's a niche for anything. For this to be blown out of proportion because of a critique is wild.
This isn't ok. I will email Liminal11 with my concerns after watching this - they have sent me decks for review. They should know that a creator under their umbrella is doing this. I think they need to be aware that pro readers who review decks do not appreciate one of our own being slapped with a (baseless) cease and desist for having an opinion.

I could say lots of things like "don't google legal terms and pretend you're a lawyer because you'll look like a fool" or "learning from critique is more productive than whatever this nonsense is" but mostly... I'm just not happy you (and other tarot-tube friends) have had to deal with this. I will absolutely email the publishers. Publishers can't expect us to review their products (for free) then sit back and not address this.

I’m only about a minute and a half into this video, but I read the deck creator’s response and saw your previous video. Wow! From her bombastic claims about herself to her choice of wording in her cards, to her response to you she seems to be someone with serious ego issues! 😮 I think your criticisms were constructive and valid. Her response to criticism seems to be taking an attitude of condescension and blaming any criticism of her work on “fear-based programming” and ignorance. Damn! A little humility never hurt anyone. The deck needs improvement, but it can’t be improved if she assumes anyone who says so is just ignorant/ afraid/doesn’t understand it, etc.
Just wow. I saw Martyn's reviews a week or so ago and it the deck looked a mess then. I went on to read her blog interview on Liminal 11 and felt sad for her. She is clearly on the road of healing but is getting in her own way. It is sad. However who in their right mind pressed yes to the deck? Can procurement at these publishing companies be this desperate and incompetent? The cash grab was potentially great that they went all Golem on the creation of a deck such as this? In my not asked for opinion, responsibility for comminionsing, publishing and distributing such a deck without any due diligence is on them. I have written to liminal 11 here in London UK, after Martyn's video. So let's see what their response is, cause they are going with low lying fruit with this one, much like the road kill at Hayhouse. As for the creator - she is heading for a really big crash and I hope she is supported by her crew when that happens. An ego that big is gonna hurt when it bursts. 👀 Talk about hyper fixation and cutting of one's nose. Really needs to drink a calming herbal tea and go sit and think about life choices. Sometimes creators aren’t happy / are hurt/ bruised ego, but this behaviour is unreal, especially to keep going and going. I will email the publishers and have been checking the other reviews.

Just, wow. I watched your original review and thought all your criticism was valid, but even then I was still moderately interested in this deck. I thought maybe I could make it work for me, loved the art, I even put it in my Amazon cart. Now, after seeing what this person has been saying and doing, I don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole. Sorry you had to deal with all this and I appreciate your honest review.

I am STUNNED that they don't see how damaging this behavior is to their reputation and future endeavors. There is an egregious paucity of self awareness here. I hav considered getting this deck to trim off the key words and use as an image only deck, but Maggie’s behavior and negativity has turned me off entirely.

I actually said something about the subject of this deck in general on Facebook and multiple people rolled all over me. Apparently everyone has to be into weed and if you are not you are not informed or not doing your research…I thought we are all entitled to our own opinions on this subject as well. I bought the deck and like the art but am now so not happy with it anymore…

I found your review video and channel because I was looking for reviews of this deck. I thought the artwork exceptionally beautiful and appealing but I was unsure about the cannabis part. I really liked your critique: very clear, in depth, well structured. I thought most of your critique was geared towards a lack of editing, which the publisher could iron out. The way this creator is reacting is completely out of proportion. I’m sure it is primarily her behaviour that has put people off buying her deck. It’s like you say, a lot of people were going to buy the deck no matter your critique, because of the beautiful artwork. Keep up your good work! I’m subscribed!

Aside from all the abhorrent behavior towards you and everyone who rightfully critiqued the deck which ar this point seems to be completely unnecessary to restated, I’m also at awe at how dismissive and disrespectful of the artist she was when stating that the art came from her.
I think this was the most telling aspect of our entire conversation. She was so bothered by a compliment for the artist that she had to take credit. Narcissist.
Just catching up on this. I found your review to be a very logical, common sense, and well-educated perspective on this deck as an oracle deck with suits, generally, AND as a cannabis deck, specifically. It seems like the premise of the deck had so much potential, but it just wasn’t entirely well developed, organized, or communicated to the average user. As an avid deck user myself, it matters to me when names or keywords on the cards aren’t elaborated upon in guidebook, when there is noticeable repetition of key words/concepts, when symbolic choices (like lavender) aren’t explained, when a religion’s deities are included in ways that practitioners of the religion find offensive, when statements are made that seem to need citation but don’t have any, etc. I appreciate your thorough, detailed, and honest reviews very much. That being said, I, like many others in your comment section, love the artwork and might have used this deck intuitively just for that reason, or used it as a jumping off point to doing some of the research this deck creator seems to think we should do on our own versus having her include it in the guidebook. But after all this, until such time as Liminal 11 addresses this mess properly, I’ll simply look for other ways to support the artist.

This reminds me of when the Dreams of Gaia deck came out back in the AT forum days. I had mentioned that the deck wasn't for me, I didn't fully consider it a tarot deck since the structure was changed so much, and criticized the cardstock bc lbr, the cardstock was utter trash on that first printing, and the creator instead decided to send me and others who weren't thrilled with the deck messages claiming that we must not have been real readers because we didn't understand the deck and other ad hominem attacks. I understand that when you create something, you're protective of it, but there's also a way to politely disagree and handle yourself with professionalism and grace. I was however vindicated when the creator had to reprint on different cardstock only like a month after the original printing
your comments and opinions about a new tarot / oracles are valuable to us . Sure you don't need to go through this process .I feel bad for the artist I really love the art in this cards .
What an unstable individual. It's clear that her egomania plays a role in how she wrote such a superficial guide book. I also don't appreciate the way she blatantly took credit for the quality of the artwork that she did not create. I hope that there will be a positive resolution to this unnecessary drama and harassment.

I see this often on booktok as well. My advice to authors of books and decks is always to stay out the review section. Once your work is out there it’s out of your hands. It pubic for the world to see and criticize. Especially if they know they can’t handle “bad” reviews. If your on the tok you may remember the drama of the 4 star review 🤦🏻♀️ any, who, you keep doing you. 😘
the publishers need to step in and do something. she's now ruined this deck all on her own. is the artist of the cards okay? (from what I understand Wilson wrote the guidebook and the art was done by someone else)
I've not heard from the artist. Maggie made it clear in one of her comments to me that she doesn't think very highly of the artist, Edge Ebenebe. I really would love to see more of this artist's work. I followed her on IG but there hasn't been much activity this year.

I *just* registered that the artist has also illustrated one of the four suits in the upcoming Literary Tarot! (It was a Kickstarter but I'm fairly sure it'll be sold after the pledges are filled -- it was created as a fundraiser for a literacy-focused non-profit). So, I'm glad to see that we in the tarot community will get to see more of her artwork!

I know I’m late in the game on this. But I wanted to wait until my brother was able to really read the booklet… he’s been a sommelier in Cali for several years now. He went back to college to learn what he didn’t teach himself in our parents yard!!! Lol. So he was just visiting, & I showed him the booklet, he said- this is absurd, I don’t know how it got published other maybe the art being nice, but this is extremely inaccurate information…. I showed him other guidebooks, I have almost 200 decks so I told him take your pick!!!!! Even reading this intuitively, which we can do, there’s some decks I like to read the guidebooks on. And some that I just don’t even look at the guidebooks. The art is beautiful but it was confusing. & not to bring up old wounds but I just wanted for my own peace of mind to hear from an actual sommelier who is very educated in this…. And has thriving businesses. So. That being said. You absolutely were not wrong. Even more so, the whole point is to give an honest review/opinion. Rise above it, you’re better then any messiness…. I can tell you have a good heart, and you’re a genuinely good person… so I feel like she found you as an easy target. It’s a shame you had to go thru that… and sadly, that the artist who truly did make beautiful cards… will be on my shelf collecting dust. I won’t use it now. And lord knows nobody is gonna buy it!!!!

It appears that "fear-based programming" is her favorite phrase. Now I wonder, how is it logical that she accuses you of defamation for the troubled soul comment but has no problem constantly saying that you suffer/are affected by fear-based programming... eighter both or neighter are (in my opinion neither are). I wish you a lot of strenght ☆
Definitely have to go check this out. I am a avid watcher of your videos, and have been waiting for this deck. I’ll be back with my opinions later. But so far in this video, I’m not impressed by her unfortunately.
If i remember your review was overly positive. Everyone loved the artwork. Lots of dels release an updated version. This happens in the author world as well, even when they get positive reviews. On Goodreads reviewers can't give half stars so they'll state the half star in the text and some authors go NUTS. Some will also go after auhortubers/book tubers, etc. Lesson's thr same: it only makes the author look bad and buyers won't buy.
So here we are a year later and you are still influencing whether people purchase or don't on a deck. Guess what, I WILL NEVER BE IN THE MARKET FOR HER DECK.
