democracynow.org - Federal authorities are reportedly investigating whether people who carried out one of the worst mass lynchings in recent history are still alive and can be brought to justice. It was July 25, 1946, when a white mob in rural Georgia ambushed a car carrying two African-American couples, dragged them out and shot them to death. One of the men, George Dorsey, was a military veteran who had recently returned from serving five years overseas in World War II. His wife, Mae Murray Dorsey, was also killed. Dorothy Malcom, the other woman in the car, was seven months pregnant. The mob cut her open and removed her unborn child. Her husband, Roger Malcom, had just been bailed out of jail after he was accused of stabbing a white man. A coroner estimated people in the crowd fired more than 60 shots at the two couples, at close range. The horrific attack was carried out near Walton County, Georgia, not far from Moore's Ford Bridge. It became known as the Moore's Ford lynching, and sparked a national outcry, prompting President Harry Truman to push for civil rights reform. The FBI also investigated, but no one was ever convicted of the four murders. But a relative of one of the men allegedly involved in the attack has come forward in a videotaped interview with the NAACP. Wayne Watson says his uncle and several other men he named were members of the Ku Klux Klan. We speak to Edward DuBose, a member of the NAACP national board and former president of the Georgia branch of the NAACP, and journalist Herb Boyd.

My name is George Dorsey. I learned about this case over 10 years ago when I lived in Las Vegas. I drove to Moore's Ford Bridge today. This place of where this horrific event took place is just 30 miles away from my house.

And those are the ones that are known. During the FBI search for the 3 civil rights workers in Mississippi, they found 3 bodies, identified and 15 bodies not ever identified. And that's just in two States, u throw in Texas, Florida and other Southern states we get into millions of Blacks lynched privately and publicly.

He was a UPS driver, one of the klan members told the FBI how the guy cried and said he have a family to support, and he have kids, but they didnt care, they made him jump anyway, while they stood and laugh. We see the same callous, disrespectful behavior when chavis lock off floyd's neck, and kept moving his knee back and forth to worsen the grip he had on the guy's neck. He didnt care if he beg or pleaded, all he wanted to do was get his knee directed on his neck, and with his hand in his pocket. Chavis is an evil man, and he should be put down like a wild boar that he is, he's not a human being. I hope he suffer in prison.

I saw an interview with a man (a white man) who was fishing in the area when he was a kid, and he saw this happen. He tried to tell the Sherriff he knew who the perpetrators were and he was told unless you want your family to be next you better shut your mouth. He was really traumatized by this, even 50 years later. ☹

I'm a 52 year old white man and I'm sick an tired of hearing about the KKK. My parents live out in the country and they woke up one morning and found literature from the KKK on their mailbox an under the wiper blades of their cars. I myself walked into a bathroom of the local Royal Farms store after a man came out and found literature from the KKK when I went outside to confront this man he was leaving but I caught his tag plates on his car. They were from South Carolina it just pisses me off that he got away because I was going to confront him on it it made me that mad.

There are actual photographs & films, from that era; depicting attendees of these atrocities, which numbered in the "hundreds"; sometimes, in the "thousands". They included men, women, & children, who were either perpetrators, or spectators; as if the "lynchings" were "sports events".
