We wanted to keep all of our customers updated on what is happening with the recent Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) outbreak that happened at Sacramento Koi's facility.
This is extremely sad.. I just watch this channel because it's relaxing. If any time in the future I somehow end up with a koi pond, I'm gonna be purchasing from you guys.
Nice handling of a very difficult situation for all concerned, hopefully all this extra exposure will help beat this virus permanently. Really good to see another video from you guys though, maybe once you've put all this behind you we'll get to see some more. Good luck.
Thank you so much. I am the person that had the long conversation with you about KHV while I was visiting Napa. Thanks for all that you do. Dr. Derek King.
Honesty and integrity! When do you anticipate you will have more koi? I Owe a great deal of my new found hobby to Sacramento Koi. I would still like to purchase some beautiful fish from you! Thanks!
I love their honesty I and now I see why they did not end up posting their 2018 trip on their channel but I would still appreciate it. I loved the 2017 video and I was really hoping for this one. Thanks you guys great channel 👏🏼👏🏼
I am devastated for you. Such a simple thing causing such loss, both financial and emotionally. Shows the importance of good quarantine and husbandry practices, that you managed to limit the impact and yet still what an impact.
the pain is real in his eyes khv has devastated me in the past we gotta move on and continue this hobby it's our passion sacromento koi u guys are truly passionate thanks.
I’m so sorry for your loss but what a show of integrity! I just finished watching the video of the Japan trip to learn more about Koi since we would like to have a pond ourselves
Incredible how you guys “Sacramento koi” stepped up and firstly admitted you had caught the virus but then to help out customers who lost fish is amazing!!! Shows just how fantastic of a company this is!!! When it comes time for me to purchase products for my new pond I’ll definitely be given you all my business!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 great job
I can only wish our UK dealers were as sympathetic, thanks for the very honest and accurate synopsis. KHV is a massive problem in our hobby, and I know from experience a tough one to get over.
From MAGA to KAG. Many of us still exist today. It's the bad ones with the loudest mouths that get the biggest attention, especially by the lame stream media, to exaggerate their numbers.
Thank you for being such a straightforward company. And willing to help. It seems a good thing that the virus is going lower in % die off rates. It means the fish are able to build immunity to it. Maybe one day it won’t be so devastating.
It was very nice of you to give notice of the virus outbreak. It will help to stop the spread to the stock in people’s ponds. The breeder should bare the blunt of the losses that he has inadvertently spread or be banned from raising any more fish from his property. ( either pay up or be closed down indefinitely ). Some people have owned their fish for decades and their losses can not be compensated. I can feel your pain and appreciate your admittance to this tragic occurrence.
Damn... Crazy story... Good advice and quality principles, outside of killing all the fish, but I understand tho... think I found where I'd buy my koi...
This was so informative and I thank you Sac Koi for keeping it real this was horrible but you did the right thing, can’t wait for the new shipment much love and aloha 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
This is a perfect example of a company putting the customers first. By making sure a customer is armed with the information necessary to immediately combat this affliction they help protect their customer's interest/investment. Sacramento Koi have shown what's missing in modern capitalism; honesty and integrity. Things necessary to establish a mutually beneficial relationship based on trust. BRAVO!
From a new koi hobbyist i would like to thank you for showing what are the symtoms of khv and i have downloaded an app to keep record of all my koi with photos and size
Very nice done Sacramento Koi. Also feels with the Japanese Koi breeder. Dead fish bring tears. In the winter of 2009 all my koi died under the ice after a power failure. I couldn't remove them before the ice disappeared and it was a horrible job.
Not all dealers would have been honest enough to step up and deal with the virus issue. Kudos to him. It must have been devastating to destroy all those fish. I think it would kill me.
I'm curious how the originator is doing. Afterall, that is Japan and some of the old culture still the same today. I hope the original breeder is OK and helped to fix the problem or his busn is down the septic system.
This is not the first time that the breeder Choguro has forwarded the KHV Virus from his farm overseas. He did this some years ago to Connoisseur koi in the UK. Whilst he was an excellent breeder of the purachina koi, I was amazed in 2018 that he was selling matsubarawake, goshiki, shiro Utsuri etc. He clearly was buying these koi in from many other farms to grow on and sell for profit. I will be surprised if he ever reopens his farm.
He is a great salesman and good business man because reptile breeders would say your loss after delivery or 7 days. I hope the Japan seller paid some money back too but I doubt it. If the ones not showing it why did they have to be put down couldn’t they went to another pond and wait for like a year or so to see if they are going to be carriers or infect the ponds? So sad so many expensive fish had to die over one seller in Japan, :(
I’m curious to know what responsibility the breeder is taking on since the KHV originated in his facility... I do realize we’re talking about another country but since purchasing koi is all about relationships, location is really null and void here. In this case, honor and integrity should precede all matters - just as Sacramento Koi is displaying. Seems like Sac Koi is taking the entire hit, cringing but willingly (insurance doesn’t count) they’re just doing why they get paid to do.
I bought koi from another company: that was major mistake. I now have $10k in koi that are dieing. They DENY that they sold me sick fish. I did not buy koi from you... but can you give me information on how to get one of those tests to make SURE that is what they have?
Try contacting the APHIS of the USDA. You can also maybe get help from your local/nearest University microbiology dept's head and especially one with a veterinarian school. They should be able to provide help or a resource to help without necessarily going to a veterinarian perhaps. This link might give you info about the disease from a veterinarian on KHV and another disease of similar symptoms w/some differences, too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dAVvWuVepqo.html
Cook thoughly at the right temperature to kill the virus and treat as a carp dinner. The oarts must be destroyed by incineration(cremation) or dissolved in acid or alkaline bath.
