1 week 1 day after surgery for my anal fistula, fissure, and abscess. Fancy name of surgery -- Fissurectomy, Fistulotomy, and a lateral internal sphincterotomy.
To anyone who may be reading: I had surgery for a 'superficial fistula' 4 days ago. Superficial apparently means that it didn't go through any muscles and is easily fixable. I got this as a result of a perianal abscess which I had drained 8 months prior to the fistula surgery. Tbh I thought I'd gotten off lightly as the first few days I had very little pain and even managed a BM with no bother about 36 hours after surgery. However, day 3 this all changed. I've been in a lot of pain especially after BM's and I can only assume it's because the s**t is getting into the wound(at least that's what I think it feels like as it's an intense, tear-reducing sting). I've been taking lactulose as prescribed by the surgeon which is sugary laxative syrup, it basically keeps you regular and adds water to your BM for ease. On a good note, it's only been 4 days and the wound has improved alot so theres hope for me yet! I'm looking forward to getting this out of the way and eating whatever the hell I want as porridge, fruit and soup just isn't cutting it! Let me know if you have any questions, I will be brutally honest :)
@@ellenanewsomes6358 hey Ellena! It wasn't so bad for the first few days, day 3-7 was pretty bad for pain especially when going to the toilet, but make sure you have a warm bath ready to jump into as this really does help! I'm on day 10 post op and the wound is healing well- it still bleeds and has a lot of discharge but does hurt too much. Going to the toilet hasn't been so bad the past 2-3 days but I do still have to get in the bath afterwards as it can get into the wound😬
Selina Brooks May I know what the surgeon has to say about the discharge and healing process? Anw thanks so much for ur info, I wish u all the best as u are on ur way out of this terrible disease.
Honestly , I haven’t read any comment or heard anyone say exactly what I went through . I had the exact same situation . I’m almost 11 weeks post op and my wound still hasn’t healed completely and sometimes I feel like faecal matter entered the fistula tract and irritated it . Do you flush or irrigate your wound for that?
Domino Facal really does irritates ur wound that’s why warm sits bath is needed. I always wash my bottom well after bm and Jump right in warm bath. Have you asked ur doctor why ur wound haven’t healed completely? Please share ur experiences, thank u @domino
I had a abscess drained in July this year which converted to a fistula because the wound did not heal inside out. I had a Fistula operation late Oct with a laser operation called DLPL from another doc in India. The doc was great and gave some great advices for post op care which has immensely helped me 1 - Diet : This is the most important thing. Make sure you drink a lots of water and eats lots of Veggies and fruits. Avoid meat and animal products. 2 - Physio : The Doctor gave a bunch of physio excercise for strengthening the affected area. 3 - Dressing : This was a unique type to dressing i havent come across youtube. Basically you take a cotton bud, apply hyrdogen peroxide solution to it and insert the bud in the fistula wound. This does two things it cleans the inside and also prevents the wound from closing prematurely from the surface. I had to do it twice a day initially and then once a day a the wound became smaller and started healing 4- Medication : He gave me pain killers and turmeric supplements. He ordered sitz bath once a day since i was doing the dressing. The apart from above its paramount that you do not stress yourself about the situation. This situation sucks but suffering is always optional. always have a positive mindset. Stressing about the situation will only slow down the recovery My fistula is almost done healing and its been over 8-9 weeks. Might be another week till it heals completely Had follows up with the doctor every week to monitor the healing process. I hope this helps someone
I just had one done 12 days ago and the pain is mostly gone only using Tylenol once a day now. It has start to itch and a sharp odd type occasional pain. Cleaning after a bowel movement is a must. I found the shower wand gentle spray better than sit bathing. This video was a great help.
Did you have a lot of pain after bowl movements 12 days post op? I'm currently 8 days post op and bowl movements are very painful for me... I'm eagerly waiting to get better but i get depressed at times.
I am at 6 days post op (fistulectomy), bowel movements are truly excruciating. I have literally cried on some. I also have this pain about 2 inches above the open wound..on the hip
ashwijugrankar I’m on day 6 as well from my surgery I had a small abscess and fistula next to it I had my 2nd bowel movement and it hurt so bad I cried this morning I’m so over the pain and I haven’t took any ibuprofen or any pain meds because I heard it constipates you because I did at the first few days and I felt constipated so I stopped. I’ve been putting lidocaine cream on it idk if that’s helping or not lol. But I’m just excited for it to heal🥴
Hi, I have had an anal fissure for almost 5 years now. I have tried every non surgical treatment there is available and nothing has worked. I have decided it is time for surgery. I am having an L.I.S this Thursday(2/21/19).. I am quite nervous but your video has helped me a great deal. I am optimistic that this surgery will finally take away the agony that i have suffered through for many years. Thank you for posting this video.
Don't be afariad. I just done my surgery last 2 months, i undergone LIS last December 18 2018 and now i can say that i'm feel more better than before i wasn't yet undergo surgery. But even those after 2months of surgery sometimes u will feel mild pain if your stool pass out hard. But now i can really tell that i feel more better. The painful beforw i felt was gone away. My advice for you after you done surgery LIS just avoid being constipated
@@celicaplopino2328 I still have occasional mild pain after a bowel movement but nothing like before i had the surgery. I have accepted the fact that this is a chronic issue and i will live with it for the rest of my life. i believe i waited to long to have the surgery.
Im 5 weeks into recovery and let me tell you, it must be done but wow, it is pretty terrible honestly. Thinking about telling my story as well. In short, Your doctor is very important. I had one doctor who acted like it was nothing and i was over exaggerating the pain level. He moved my operation back many times. When i get a second opinion it was night and day. He scheduled the operation a week from our first meeting since the fistula was obvious and i had been dealing with 2 misdiagnosis. I suffered 6 month before i had the abscess drained then waited 5 more months to get the fistulotomy. The seton fell out after week 4 and now nearly in week 6 I'm about 80% closed still sore. Anyway morale of the story, yes its needed, but make sure you trust the surgeon because its a hell of an operation and you need the best care possible.
@@sanpat2220 Hey San, I had my operation back in April 2022. The first few weeks were rough honestly. But i started to drink a lot of water and every morning i had Metamucil first thing. You need everything to come out soft. I got the seton tightened on week 4, it fell out by week 5 and immediately started to feel better and by week 12 i felt great and healed. Hang in there it will improve.
I had a fistula surgery 2 month ago, my experience was not bad at all. The fist 2 weeks it was a little uncomfortable but didnt had to take no pain medication at all. Sitz bath and thats it. Perhaps a little pain after bowel movements that would go away quick. Im almost in my 2 month recovery and the wound is healing perfect. They say it takes at least 4 to 5 month for the wound to close and heal completely.
@@sweetberries683 Might as well consult your Doctor or get another one. There are General Surgeons but there are surgeons who are better in operating on this cases.
@@henrymurphychronicles2488 @ I have 11 surgeries done so far, my doctor is a colorectal specialist not general surgeons but yes not easy to treat fistula high complex like mine, I met & talk to another fistula patient who have fistula over 5 years and still on until today
Hi iv just had my opp today for a fistula I was in two minds about having the opp as I wasn't getting any pain but after reading more I think having the opp was best . I have had a seton put in and have to go back in 6months for them to either replace it or have my fistula cut out as a seton don't heal it it just helps to drain it . I am hoping I can get it cut out next time so I can start the healing process the opp went well I'm not in any pain yet fingers crossed I'm taking pain killers ie paracetamol every 4 hours not taking any chances thanks for your video it was a great help hope all is well .
Jim Bob thanks for the comment. I'm in the UK, and I have surgery scheduled for April. I'm not in pain. And in two minds to get the surgery. Very concerned about post opp....
Thank you so much for this video ! I have my fistulotomy today ! And I am a neuro nurse so I’m glad I can get some advice from that on that level for work !
@@sanpat2220 honestly, keeping it clean using a sitz bath often and using warm water to clean was a lifesaver. it was excruciatingly painful and burning after every BM without the warm water. I had a fistulotomy with marsupialization so I had dissolvable stitches and an open wound so keeping gauze there to keep it dry helped a lot with healing as well.
@@kelseybaker8720 how many days after surgery you felt normal ,like now iam ok to go out do exercise and regular stuff.. Eat normal diet etc .. And pain on scale 1 to 10 was how much? And how it decreased in 1 week post op?
@@VOU-THIS. it took about 10 days to feel 100% normal. I didn’t exercise for a long while. I’ve had a c section and would rather do that again than this surgery.
I’m considering the surgery, but very scared. I’ve read about some people hurting way past a month or months and that’s scary. I can’t continue like this either. Any accidents defecating? I’m truly not sure what to ask? Will a week off work be enough? Congrats on becoming a doctor.
Doc RN? Thank you. I’m doing the heating pad and standing in the shower instead of sitting in the tub. Doc said showers k to keep the area clean. No bm yet but don’t have much of an appetite. Your post really helped and encouraged me to do it. It’s good to know it’s painful but it will finally go away.
@@docrn7120 How are you now? How much time did it take for your outside wound to heal? I had fistulotomy a month back... Outside wound has not yet healed..still there is little discharge.
I had an anal fistula treated a few years ago and boy oh boy you ain’t lying about the pain! No amount of pain meds worked and I had everything short of morphine. I even threw away a whole bottle of hydrocodone out of frustration. The Oxycodone and Percocet they gave me afterwards only served to help me sleep through the pain .
Hey bud I'm in a wheelchair I'm missing both my legs. And lucky me has a perianal abscess or pilonidal abscess and they think it has a fistula into my rectum. My question for you and I mean I'm sure it's going to hurt but how was sitting after surgery because I can't stand up and this has me a little worried. I don't want to have to lay down flat and I mean for a couple weeks that just wouldn't be good at all especially after surgery and then you got to would have to worry about blood clots. So I'm just wondering how long it take for you to be able to sit semi comfortably. Thanks I appreciate the video
My son is one week into having had the surgery and we are just unclear on how to clean the wound. He showers before soaking in the sitz bath which , He has medication ointment to put on 4 times a day but no instructions on cleaning the wound except to wipe with baby wipes . Should we be using some sort of soap in a spray bottle
Clean the wound like you would any regular wound. Wash it with warm water and put on a cotton or gauze soaked in betadine. It will heal im sure ive been there. Eat lots of fruits and veggies and fiber. Stool softener is advised.
I got my surgery 4 days ago and the first and second days were pretty good but the third day I felt this weird poking kind of pain and today it was really bad after I pooped, I felt the same stinging pain I felt before I got my surgery and now this has just made me so nervous about if I did the right thing getting a surgery. Anyone went through any of this, please share if got better after a week or so.
Richa Sitaula It’s been 15 days for me and it still hurts when i poop and for some time afterwards. I use a laxative and it helps a lot. Eating healthy makes a big difference as well. Try to eat as much fruits and vegetables as possible. Good luck
I’ve had two abscesses this year, one was drained in April and I just had the second one drained about 3 days ago, along with drainage i had a fistula issue fixed. How long does it take for the whole wound to be completely healed? Can you give me some sort of time frame In the progress of healing? Thank you in advance.
omg someone please help me. I had surgery over a year ago and I am still having issues with clean-up with leads me to believe the surgery did not "take". EVERY DAY ALL DAY LONG I am having this trouble. I use the shower wand and that's fine until I go again and then I'm in trouble again. Is this happening to anyone?
Hi. i got anal abscess surgery done about a week ago & doc mentioned he saw a hole there during surgery is fitsula about which we would talk on my follow up after checking down there.... i am going for follow up next week.. do you think i would require another surgery if the fitsula took place or just medication will heal it??.. when i see the area myself i find it pretty healed and pinkish which means skin is coming over the incision however i am still continuing all the anti biotics & pain med prescribed..
Hi Doc Rn. Thanks for creating this video and starting a pretty good information thread. I saw you said you had a surgery on 3/4. Was that because the fissure surgery did not take? I have been debating on forcing the issue with my doctor. I’m going 4 years off and on. On for about a year and a half now and he has not sent me to a surgeon yet for analysis. I don’t want to have surgery if it doesn’t work.
I’m currently 4 days post op. Little to no pain. I first got symptoms in January (ugh too much pain) and had the surgery in March. I have taken no pain meds and poop regularly (hardest part is the clean up). I do feel like I’ve been in a fight. My ribs, jaw and back have been sore. I know my throat was going to be sore because they shoved a tube down my throat for breathing during anesthesia. Thankful for the lack of pain.
@@sanpat2220 yeah it fixed itself. Got a tooth extraction and a possible clot on my lungs, which ended up not being an issue. I'm still going strong, despite the lack of sleep. Don't feel sorry for myself at alll, I'm in a totally good position. 80% of people are not.

I’m so frustrated by my surgeon’s very superficial post up instructions and preparation, it is as if they purposely avoid telling you how bad stuff gets. I’m on day 3 and have been leaking discharge and light blood all day, changed gauze like 5 times. The do tor says use soap and clean often but how the hell do you do that on open wound in your anus when everything is swollen and soap stings. He now tells me the discharge can continue for 3 weeks. This is so frustrating. I’m scared of developing an infection. I’m using Preperation H, Dok100 stool softeners, EMLA lidocaine cream, Calmol suppository. It’s a nightmare to apply all these things.
@@sagarzarora8066 Well it’s been 4 months now and of course everything has long healed and I feel great! While first 3-5 weeks of recovery was a frustrating hassle especially the first 3 weeks, I have no regrets doing the surgery. It resolved all the problems and pain I felt before. I'm on my 4th day of post op and im really shocked that pain isn't present. I was given some painkillers and was advised to take it whenever just when i feel pain in my wound but seriously it wasn't really needed. Maybe it depends on how the operation was done, doctors do it differently on a case to case basis. I'm just really anxious to know how long will it take for the wound to heal? My doctor removed the fistula by burrying into the skin, leaving it open to heal naturally I, i guess thia should close the fistula tract.
Hello, I just had a fistulotomy 3 days ago. My experience seems the same as you have written. I am wondering how your open wound healed as this is my main concern. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thank you
I had the same. 2 1/2 months after surgery, I still have very slight pain during/after poop (more pressure than pain), but my doc is concerned it’s not healing completely
@@msprague1017 It's normal. The healing won't come in an instant. It's gradual. See, when you have an anal fistula, you're dealing with two things, the fissure or tract, and the source which is the ulceration in the anal wall. The ulcer heals by itself given that your stool is soft and always and big. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, fiber water juice it might sound cliche but it's true. It worked for me. The Doctors will deal with the fissure tract but you deal with the ulcer in your anal wall. Make it heal by eating right.

Hi, can I ask you a question? I first had very painful anal fissure for two months and then it got infected. The abscess developed into anal fistula. The doctor did a quick surgery to drain the abscess and put a seton there. it has been another month and i still have a lot of pain. I really want to have the doctor arrange another surgery to fix the fissure and fistula. But he didn’t want to do it as I had a seton there. Should I see another doctor? I just want to get out of the constant pain ASAP by having surgery similar to the one you have. Do u have any suggestions? Thanks.
Please Doc Rn . Please tell me where did u do the operation and the doc name .. because i need to do it.. i will be traveling over sease and will pay anything just to have a good doc with a satisfied patient.. please..

Hi, I just had a fistulotomy on Friday November 11th. Today Monday November 14th I’ve noticed the pain during my BM was quite severe and I have been having a spasm the past few hours even after a sitz bath. I was just seeing if any of you also had this at postop day 3-4?
Anyone experience any stinging or burning sensation in the area where the abscess used to be? I’m 2 weeks post op and am experiencing stinging but no redness, swelling or fever.
Doc RN? I just had a fistulotomy on 3/4. My first week post-op has been similar to yours - first couple days after were a breeze, but days 3-6 have been a literal pain in the ass, esp. after a BM. I agree, EXTRA fiber intake is key. I recommend oatmeal, fiber bars, Metamucil, split pea soup. Your video and all the comments are extremely useful, as I found little to no info online. When you say you felt normal by week 6, what exactly was abnormal prior to week 6? Pain? Leakage? At what point did you stop with the sitz baths?
Im having the surgery after tomorrow they are not sure if it's simple or complex.. dude was talking about cutting a muscle and placing some kind of rubber band in my asshole... which surgery did you do?
I'm in med school. So, that's a loaded question lol. I eat what I can. And I attempt to take metmucil when I remember. In other words. My diet now stinks. Should be eating high fiber and lots of water intake.
@@sanpat2220 Hi! So I actually had to have a second procedure done a year after the initial LIS surgery because a skin tag formed where the incision was (over growth of new skin) and it was very painful. Once that was removed I felt completely normal about 6-8 months after the procedure. The skin tag removal was way less painful and it was done with laser so the healing process was a lot faster. I still stick to my high fiber/veggie and hydration diet and as long as I don’t have any hard stools I’m fine. I think of it as a blessing in disguise because I’m basically forced to eat healthy but don’t mind it at all and have gotten used to it :) hope this helps!
I am due to get the same surgery but my big issue is that i poop 30x a day as i have a very fast bowel movment. So i dont look forward to pooping so much 30x day if its 8/10 on the pain scale....did you have to use butt tampons?
A Moore they send you home with a butt tampon for post op bleeding but that shit is a bitch to take out! Thank God I’m married to a brave, patient , and loving woman! Expect a lot of pain during the recovery and don’t waste your time on pain meds even the sitz bath they recommend is painful to use (because you have to sit) but at least it helps better than meds. I no longer take the phrase “ a pain in the ass” lightly and I now have a greater respect for the brave souls who get penetrated in the ass for ..... pleasure???! 😳
Did the You have to be out off work because of the Dr. Recommend? I am concerned because I being having this issue for over a year now. Now in April going back for botox injection again for the third time. So the Dr . Is going to take a look because is taking to long to recover now he offer me a different surgery. But I still have to wait little more longer 😩. But with the botox i am good to go next day to work. But with the other surgery maybe the one you had is different So I am wondering if the Dr. Say you had take days off ?
Jennifer Payne I had my surgery done on the 28th. It was very simple besides the fact that I started my menstrual cycle the morning of😑 what are the chances. But the nurses made me feel so comfortable and the process was pretty fast. I woke up from the surgery with pretty rough pain until I got home. I slept on and off most of the day. I made sure not to eat a lot, my biggest fear was large stools. So I just had vegetables and lots of water. The nurse recommended I take stool softeners twice a day. Also took two prescription meds, one was ibuprofen. Was worried they’d give me pain meds that would make me constipated. But they didn’t. I had to pass a stool on day 2. It was very soft but I was surprised by how easy it was to pass. I mean no pain at all. There was slight pain afterwards but nothing like the fissure pain that I dealt with before surgery. I was so worried I would feel that again and then wait the 6+ hours for it to subside. It only lasted for maybe 15 minutes. Sitz baths help a lot. I had one incident where I had diarrhea 2 times in a day and I started bleeding from the wound site. I panicked because I thought It tore open. But I found out that it’s normal for it to bleed. But diarrhea is something that can tear open the original site or create a new one if it happens repeatedly so I know I have to be more careful and ease off of the stool softener until I eat a bit more. The pain was kind of on and off for me. I had to adjust the way I laid down because I had sharp pain like spams in the wound site at random times in the day. But again, the meds helped a lot. I think the worst pain was when I had the urge to use the bathroom and I had to hold it back or else I would release and the pain was so bad I screamed. But that got better within a few days. I am now 18 days post op and I feel great. I had one large soft stool the other day and I was worried I’d tear my fissure again because there was lots of pressure so I took it very slow and tried not to strain. Over all, I feel so great. This surgery is definitely worth it!
Thanks for sharing a very personal experience. I’m scheduled for surgery at the end of the month And I am petrified, Especially of the pain. I guess it’s soon to tell. I also fear developing incontinence from the surgery, but I want to feel better. Please fill us in if the read these comments. June 2018, How are you now?
Im feeling good roughly 1 year out. No more issues in that area. The pain can be severe for 4-5 days after surgery but quickly subsides. The post operative incontinence is very rare. I know we always think about the worst possible outcomes, but not getting the surgery could lead to infection and cause serious issues. I did a lot of research before getting this surgery, I'm a nurse of 7 years and current a medical student, i wouldn't of gotten this done if i though the risks outweighed the benefits! You will be okay!
I had that surgery in 07, mine was huge though and I was out of work for 15 weeks. Fast forward 2021 I have another but lower and just as painful and my doctor has retired so I'm searching for another.
Life risk is on the effect of your anesthesia to your body, not the operation itself. I was nerve wracked and was even crying before they put me to sleep. But all went well and im on my 4th day very painless post op. If your lab test and heart are all normal, you'll be completely fine.
Can someone tell what to do to reduce pain and burning sensation post operation.. i had my operation 3 days ago and i m suffering from pain very much.. please help me
Take a lot of warm baths or sitz baths if you are able. If your doctor did not prescribe pain medication, I would have a relative or friend get you over the counter pain medication. Also make sure you are changing your wound packing frequently - at least every 6-8 hours. Make sure you are drinking a lot of fluids and taking a stool softener and Metamucil if you have access to it. I had a superficial fistula that has about a 1 inch incision and my doctor said he used a rubber band but do not fully understand that portion of it. I'm about a week out from my procedure and the pain is minimal at this point but I have not sat at all, only standing and laying on my sides. Good luck and hope you heal up quickly.
Can you give me a timeline from the day you started when the pain was bad and when it started to calm down to when you were able to do a bowel movement without pain?
Im on my second week and the wound is healing fast. Sitz bath helpa a lot in bowel movement i think it helps soften your poop and the anal walls. Keeping the area clean also helps a lot in faster healing. Apply betadine too.
@@notSofiaVergara Hi! My wound is 99.9% healed by this time, i wish i could share with you the photos cause i take photos of the wound weekly. The puss discharge from the wound has completely stopped over a week ago and there is no sign of any re infection or recurrence. I highly advise to always do zitz bath at least twice a day, the warmer the water, the better, mix in some antiseptic liquid, pat dry the wound with a clean napkin or tissue, soak cotton with betadine and leave it on the open wound. This maintenance worked wonders on me and I hope it does everyone.

@See me Here Its a yes and no . Yes it did help the fissure to heal, No because im almost 3months amd still not 100%. But i dont have blood anymore , i bled like 2months ago and no more until now My doctor said i am good the wounds are closed but hell i am still having random pain . It is minimal nothing compared to fissure but still not back my old life. I am careful to everything now.
I don't know why some will be required to have setons. I had a normal fistulectomy, where the fiatula tract was sliced open and the upper part because I had a high fistula was scratched from the inside. The Doctor said the wound should heal and should close the fistula tract naturally. I dont know why on some, setons are placed instead of the normal cutting and exposing.
@@henrymurphychronicles2488 @ how's your situation now and how long you have fistula & how many surgery you have, I have high complex fistula my self and I have 2 seton on me has been 2 years now
Make sure you are seeing a specialist and not a general surgeon. While I'm not a doctor, I am reading online that most specialist are able to protect sphincter function. I have a cut that is near my rectum and I am having no issues at all. While every procedure is different, I would feel confident in what your doctor is telling you. I was scared at first but in recovery, I feel great about the choice to have a fistulotomy.
Make no mistake, a general doctor knows how to perform fistulectomy depending on the case and severity of your fistula, If he thinks he can do it base on pre operation tests, he can do it otherwise he'll refer you to a specialist in case you have a complex anal fistula. They will always do their best to not cut the spinchter muscle.
@@henrymurphychronicles2488 I see. My doctor not requiring me to have MRI. Is this normal? I have consulted 3 doctors they said MRI not really necessary and case to case basis
I just had surgery 3 days ago and my experience was a lil different . Very painful still but my bowel movements haven't been bad and I haven't done ant sitz baths
Do sitz bath. It's very important to keep the area clean and tender. Add some disinfectant solution in the warm water and this should help heal the wound faster. I do it and im on my 4th day post op
@@henrymurphychronicles2488 what kind of disinfectant do you use? I am having surgery next Friday and I am terrified of the pain after. But I have dealt with it this far so I should be ok. It's so bad I cry just riding in the car. The vibration is horrible!
@@aprilnicole6847 I was also nerve wracked before my operation and was in total awe after the operation cause i had very minimal pain to the point that i rarely needed painkillers. Go on with the surgery and you'll be completely fine. I don't know if Detol is available in your Country. That's a powerful antiseptic solution that i mix with warm water for your siztz bath. Ask your pharmacist for an antiseptic solution that can be mixed with water. Good luck!!
@@selinabrooks4916 Sitz baths help a lot to relieve the pain and soften the anal area. The warmer the water the better, add in some antiseptic solution. Do take pain killers like mefenamic acid when you feel the need to.
Hi bro, I am from india hope you read this comment and will reply according your comfort. I had fistula in ano, first appearance was made during November 2018. I had surgery on 4 june 2018. I had two holes according MRI. It was located at lower sphincter and a low type. 8 days passed, I feel pain during bowel movement, I use sitz bath and some medicine and cream and stool softener as prescribed by my doc. It never bleed during bowel movement but I see some kind of discharge on pads. It it going well? New tissues are forming rapidly . How long it will take to perform normal activities like my professional work. I also face some inability during urination well I went through many blogs and find them usual symptoms after surgery but I need your reply. Thank you
This is pretty much my case, i had two fistulas actually, 1 pm and 3 pm according to MRI scan, 1 pm i suppose is a higher fistula and the 3pm is a low one. I had a normal fistulectomy where my surgeon sliced them all open, the higher fistula tract, since it can't be exposed was scratched from the inside, all wounds should heal and should close all the fistula tracts. Good thing they didn't affect my sphincter area so it was saved. The discharge is normal until the wounds completely heal from the inside. Healing time really depends on your body and how well you manage to keep the wound clean. Going back to our normal activities really depend on how you feel.
