Analog Discovery 2 Quick-Start: Video 8 - Spectrum Analyzer
Kaitlyn Franz walks through the Spectrum Analyzer tool in WaveForms2015. The walk-through is fairly rapid so feel free to pause and re-watch as necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: some of the features in this video require the latest version of WaveForms 2015. This video was filmed using version 3.5.4.
The Analog Discovery 2 product page is here: store.digilenti...
WaveForms 2015 can be found here: reference.digi...
Kaitlyn has also written several instructables which go over the same information that is covered in this video series, found here: www.instructabl...
Kaitlyn has written a series of blog posts about the Analog Discovery 2 which can be found here: blog.digilenti...
Thank you for watching!

Spectacular! I also like the machine gun presentation wasting no time haha! It's just a walk-through so you can go deeper later if you wish!

What is the use of resolution ?

Hi Varun, The start, stop, frequency bins, center, span, and samples are all related values. If you change one, you'll notice that some of the others will update to reflect what the tool is capable of. If you have a particular resolution in mind, you can enter a value and WaveForms will automatically adjust to the value that the device is capable of, given the other related values.

Thanks for the answer Kaitlyn. I do understand now how resolution relates to bins and stop frequency: Resolution = STOP_Frequency/BINS. So resolution is simply hz/division in frequency spectrum i.e. how far in Hz are two adjacent frequency bins in the frequency spectrum. Related to this, I have another question. Although Network analyzer does a good job in getting frequency response, I often want to manually apply a sweeping sinusoidal signal to a circuit input and then see the frequency spectrum from the circuit output. What I donot understand is how to choose the time for sweep to get a stable display on spectrum analyzer during Run mode. Say I want to sweep an un-damped sinusoid of 5V amplitude from 1 Khz to 1 MHz through a circuit input. What sweeping time should I choose ? Should it be 1 ms, 1 us, 1 sec, etc. How to intelligently choose this value so that I can see stable spectrum during Run mode ? My intuition also says the sweep time controls number of frequency components and number of cycles of individual components generated but I donot get how these parameters are mathematically related.

Hey Varun, Would you mind posting this question on the Digilent Forum (forum.digilentinc.com).
