Gear up everyone, it's time for a village raid! Jacob, Will, and I adventured into north central Minnesota to try out Cass County's obscure WS-3000. This siren is about as close to "middle of nowhere" as you can possibly get. The closest incorporated place is the small town of Pillager (600 residents), which is six miles to the south. This siren is only active between around May and October, as it has its batteries removed during the winter off season. We were 50/50 on whether this siren would actually function or not, and even if it did, we had no clue what it would do. The test begins with a short air horn, then around a half minute of silence. It is meant as an attention getting tone, as the Whelen WPS sirens spread throughout Cass County do voice after it, though this 3000 does not. A standard one minute alert followed. We were very surprised to learn this siren is analog, which was not indicated by our local Whelen dealer when Jacob was talking to him about it, so that was fun treat! Overall a very cool experience. Thanks for watching, and enjoy!
Cass County tests their siren system on the first Wednesday of every month at 1 PM, weather permitting.
