Analyzing Disney's Sickest Villain: Frollo 

If only Disney would regain the courage to create another villain as sick & vile as Frollo

Frollo is Disney's most realistic villain, to be sure, but I think people forget that previous (before Hunchback of Notre Dame came out, I mean) Disney villains, for as over-the-top as they were, had their fair share of qualities that we see in real people that made them scary on a realistic level. Gaston in Beauty and the Beast (1991), for example, might be one of the most over-the-top examples of masculinity ever seen on film, but his ease at resorting to violence when he doesn't get his way and his inability to take no for an answer are qualities we definitely see in real people, namely incels. Ursula from The Little Mermaid (1989) and Scar from The Lion King (1994) both manipulate naive individuals for their own self-interest by taking advantage of their desires, which is not too uncommon in today's adults. Ursula takes advantage of Ariel's desire to become human to advance her plan, while Scar takes advantage of Simba's ego and desire to prove himself to lure him into a trap. I think we didn't give these villains enough credit for how realistic a threat they posed back in the day.

The part where Quasimodo gets tortured by the crowd at the Festival of Fools, I sometimes think that Frollo set that whole thing up. The first ones to throw fruit at Quasimodo were two of Frollo's soldiers.

This is why Frollo is the greatest villain that Disney has created to date, because he's the darkest disney villain to date. You can't have a great story without a villain. Frollo's vanity and self-righteous cruelty contrasts Quasimodo's humility and kindness in such a powerful way, unlike anything seen before in a Disney film, nor have we seen anything like it since in a Disney film, and I really hope that we do eventually

When I first saw this movie, I was so terrified because Frollo burning people alive was torture. Burning to death is the worst way to die

I kinda assumed that Esmeralda's dance during the festival was Frollo's first time to meet her, based of his shocked and suprised expression and that why he took his lust for her so hard was because he had no excuse. His hate toward romani, in his eyes, is need to bulldoze the heretical beliefs away, something that many meanest christians did in old times. Unlike that, in this case, Frollo did not really have religious excuse to have sexual feeling toward a woman... well, except "she's a witch! she has possessed me!"
