I’m Thai and when I watched the Ember Island episode with my grandma, she went like “Those look like our houses!” And honestly that’s the best reaction you can hope for and made me love the show even more💞
The combination of Asian and indigenous cultures in this series just shows how much research was done to make this show not only a masterpiece but a culturally accurate one. And they nailed it
@Shaiane O Hara That's so cool! I love Avatar too. Also I specifically meant White as in European, not as in skin tone, just in case anyone thought I meant that.
@@swordpegasus4032 To be honest, I don't really have a favorite. I love them all equally because they all contribute to the show in different and unique ways. I love all of the characters. 💗
Not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can watch all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother lately =)
I've always known this and that is why it pains me so to hear people say that ATLA is appropriation of asian culture. It always seemed more like a love letter to me.
@@AnInkStick cultural appropriation it's saying that this thing from another country is from your country, not practicing another's country culture; we're all humans and it's our culture, but saying that a culture is not from their country can damage history!
Even when a small part of your culture is added to such a heavily inspired world is flattering, thank you at last for adding an aboriginal Australian influence
"Understanding others, other elements, other nations will help you become a whole". We really need to apply this in our real world. So many of us are used to living in our own circle, our own world. We've got to explore more about other people, other cultures and learn what we can. Who knows where that might take us.
As a Thai person. I really like lots of the inspiration used in the Avatar. Some parts of the culture, especially in the Sun Warriors, the Ember Island and Banti tribes. Love from Thailand! 🇹🇭
I love avatar The Last Airbender and I'm Filipino and Irish and Canadian and I love Zuko and soccer because there very cool characters I also loved the Legend of Korra because of the animation and the characters.
Fun fact: The Sandbenders' clothing is based on the Tuareg tribe of Sub-Saharan Africa. The Avatar world really does take inspiration from all over the world.
This was such an interesting video, the Avatar universe is one of the best fictional worlds ever created in my opinion. I'd love to see more videos like this!
It’s more than just the external things. The creators also got inspired by the values of different cultures, especially the Asian cultures, and note that very few mainstream series celebrate these values, which makes ATLA so exceptionally incredible
Yes, there's so much to list about with the culture aspect alone, from the philosopy of the Air Nomads inspired by Buddhist Monks to the intense honor code of the Fire Nation seemingly based off of the Japanese.
My favorite parts are, well, everything. The team went above and beyond making the world of avatar completely immersive and believable 👍👍👍 love this forever
"The returning boomerang that Sokka uses is likely based on the boomerangs used by Aboriginal peoples in Australia" *You don't say.* What do you mean likely? It's pretty obvious that it's from the Aboriginals, they literally invented it
THAT WAS THE BEST VIDEO!!! My favourite is and always will be the Earth Kingdom. I love the great wall Chinese influence. It has always been incredible to me!
I have been waiting for this one!!!!! I've been so interested in the Avatar world that I needed to know more about their inspiration for the show. It's truly beautiful what they do with all the cultures and information. A real masterpiece
There are a lot of Tibetan influences as well in Aang and air nation. Apha is father in Tibetan, while Momo is Tibetan dumpling. And gigantic bison is the reference to the Tibetan Yak culture.
This is isn't just a show, it's a love letter to all of these cultures and civilizations. It's not cultural appropriation, it's cultural appreciation and it's beautiful! ❤
I'm loving these real world influences the show took inspiration from. You can tell the creators put their heart and soul into this series and I love them for it.
What you think is better for LEGEND OF KORRA? A TV special to give the ending Korrasami deserved, or a theatrical feature to give that from the beginning?
Wowww so the guys that made avatar the last airbender and legend of Korra got inspiration from real life buildings in historical places wow you guys are the best!!👏🏼👏🏼💐
Speaking of Avatar in Real Life. One day I was just scrolling, and I saw about this guy who was Named Tenzin Gyatso. He is the 14th Dalilama (I don't know what that is but ok) yeah and his name is Tenzin Gyatso. Thats Korra's Mentor and Aang's Mentor Combined! Wow he must be a Super Master Airbender, but the last time I checked he didn't have any Tatoos😂😂
Avatar the last Airbender is not just a show, it is a global masterpiece. A technological treasure of culture, history of many nations. It depicts the 4 nations but in reality, the creators have created this in order for people from different nations to see it and enjoy it. From Africa to India, from Greece to China, from Philippines to Chile everything is combined. A artistic success. Like Uncle Iroh has said: Understanding all nations helps understanding the world inside us and outside us. I am glad I have seen this as a child and now as a young woman I understand the depth of that.Thank you for this art.❤️🌍
@@youssefn2579 I'm curious about the water tribe and earth kingdom I'm wondering if any influence on the other nations came from the WTribe at all? Because to me it seems like majority of the influence on every nation came from China
@@user-hl2db3xi3d That's why there's a misconception on the fire nation solely being only Japanese influenced when it actually has southeast Asian inspiration too.
The ancient Mesopotamia ziggurats inspiring the Sun Warriors was very interesting. The fire temples of the Fire Nation resemble the fire temples from Zoroastrianism in Persia. The philosophy of the Sun Warriors also seems to be inspired by Zoroastrianism and other traditions with similar philosophies. The eternal fire of the Sun Warriors resembles the Zoroastrian fire temple in Yazd that has preserved the same fire for thousands of years. Fire Sages also seem to be inspired by Zoroastrian monks. On the Avatar wiki, it says Fire Sage Kaja that helped Avatar Roku master the Avatar State was named after a Persian word. I like all of the inspirations from all over the world, Asia, and from Indigenous cultures. I like that the Northern Water Tribe's gate was inspired by the Panama Canal and the area around the Northern Air Temple is based off of British Columbia in Canada as well. The artists did a great job!
My country , Ya'all can visited us as soon as possible in Cambodia 🇰🇭 We re all have alot of temples where Ya'all can visits And travel for a vacation What a best place in South Asia Cambodia 🇰🇭♥️
"...Have you ever done a massive three-part overview of the cultural references and inspirations in a tv series only to soon after see the official YT channel for the series do a ten-minute video on the subject? Well thats me, thats me with Avatar: The Last Airbender." ~ Xiran Jay Zhao, maybe.
I'm half Filipino and Canadian and Irish and I love avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra because of the characters and animation and I also love Zuko because he's passionate and very skilled at firebending.
The architecture and world design of avatar is just one of the many things that makes it better then tlok. Like we’ve seen so many shows in a city/modern setting but in a world so diverse like avatar it’s such a breath of fresh air.
Fun Fact: Bumi mean Earth in Sanskrit and I think they might have mentioned it but Azula comes from Azul which means blue in Spanish and Azula's Fire is blue
Please introduce more things about energy bending, the Space/Ether Element... The concept of panch mahabhoot (The Great Five Elements) has: Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Space. and in the series the space element is just ignored until the last battle where we saw a trailer of energy bending or ether bending. Plus, as it is a direct concept from India please introduce a space nation or something to provide from emphasis on India in the series. Thank You, I hope you understand...
@@janko1222 The Legend of Korra is available at Netflix in the US and most European countries! You can also buy the DVDs or blu-rays on Amazon for 20-30 dollars/euros.
One time I asked a friend what if the four elements were based on places on Europe instead. And here was his outcome: Water Tribe: Italy and Greece Earth Kingdom: France Fire Nation: UK/Britain Air Temple: Germany
*Fun facts: Avatar the last Airbender’s are actually based in Buddhism and there is a place in Nepal that is similar to air nomad’s temple of legend of Korra*
