Analyzing Strangely Familiar Images Part 2 

When I look at these images it makes me uncomfortable and nostalgic because it makes me wonder what happaned. It obviously once was in use, it makes you wonder, how many people had memories here? Did someone meet the love of their life at this place? Did someone come here every weekend? And how many amazing memories did someone make here? It’s rlly makes you think about what it used to be.

I've worked as a Midnight shift Security guard for about 4 years now, and before that I worked retail at a store that was shutting down. This very much shows the feeling of what it is like to work these kind of jobs. It's eerie and unnatural to have these spaces designed by humans, and meant to be populated, but they're empty, dark, devoid of life.

As nostalgic as some of these pictures are, i always some how feel a bit unsettled. Like I'm losing touch with reality, being taken to another universe which is a altered, messed up version of our universe from the early 2000s. Kind of similar to like the Backrooms, for example, where you are stuck in an office hallway being chased by something. I hope that isn't only me, but that's my opinion on it.

the eerie images of big cities seemingly neglected and abandoned during the 2020 lockdowns was like just a whole world of liminal space. very creepy...

Hey Adrian, I have the based theory of the fact that those images are nostalgic because of the complete absence of people. The absence of people can make places nostalgic, because you don't see the movement that you always used to see in the places

I get a creepy feeling from most of these images. It feels like some kind of crime or accident happened in these areas many many years ago which claimed a dozens of lives and later on the places got completely abandoned and forgotten by everyone. Feels like their souls still linger around in these areas at night.

6:07 That image kinda reminded me of spy kids, specifically spy kids 3 (ironic it came out in 2003). Although I'm not a 2000s kid I still watched every spy kids movie and love the janky 2000s animation, literally couldn't tell as a kid. It also reminds me of shark boy and lava girl, although I can't remember that movie so much.. Thinking back to this just wants me want to watch spy kids 3 again

the images of the daycare - like places give me so much nostalgia. I remember being about 5 and playing with Jurassic park toys at a daycare, it is something that was not a big part of my childhood but it still makes me very nostalgic when i think of it

I cant help but feel like I’ve been to these places… as humans we choose to be social, many of these places link to places we’ve been to before. When you see a old children’s birthday place you link it to when you were a child, with many freinds. But when nobody’s there you get a feeling of… emptiness

It feels like the MII disposal place, first its full of running MIIs then it becomes more and more empty seeing the area but not the people you remember and i think that dreamcore ones rely on the feeling of unbounded unfinished graphics and textures for a game like the hotel with an enclosed park.

a lot of the time I'll just look up these images on google or videos of them and i always end up with my head hurting, I'm not sure why though. Plus, the images that feel more nostalgic are always the ones that have nothing to do with me, like I've never seen or been in a place like that but it feels so familiar. idk this shit is weird.

Liminal spaces and places I've seen in my dreams and Nightmares. Impacted me on January 1st 2021. And it all started when a RU-vid channel called miacdaled ended up as I scrolled through youtube and found it. I also found your Channel to. So this phenomenon became my nostalgia for the whole year of 2021. So 2021 for me was the year of recapping my childhood memories. It made the early 2000s comeback

I think the reason why many others who didn’t grow up in the 90’s and 2000’s still feel nostalgic is because some buildings just have old architecture. I was a 2010’s kid, and I live in a pretty rural place. There are plenty of buildings theatre hundreds of years old here, and there’s others that are like 40 years old. We went to the same mall my dad went to when he was young, and a bunch of places here just don’t really bother to remodel, especially the ones from the 2000’s.

It's like growing up and coming back to the school you studied at or any other place you went to as a child only to see the building abandoned or turned into something else. The structure is the same, you can see the place it was in it, but it's completely different and maybe the notion of time passed/the shock between childhood and adulthood gives you them weird feels 👀 Not just nostalgia, but the eerie feeling we all talk about with those images At least to me

6:29 this image of an empty indoor apartments is actually from a hotel in London, England near Heathrow airport, here it’s currently empty and dark but seeing it normally looks weird now. The hotel is called Holiday Inn terminal 4. Fun fact apparently this place is where many red flag passengers would go and stay if they had covid and since the backrooms was a big thing in the 2020’s, maybe the photo originated from one of those? I mean it looks relatively less grainy than the other photos

The picture you briefly analyze around 6:50 also seems to have been edited, specifically the carpet? it looks like someone just photoshopped in a carpet texture and neglected to fix... something about the foreshortening of it. maybe it's not even photoshopped but my eye keeps going back to something about the way the carpet interacts with the distance that just seems wrong

4:10 that seems VERY familiar to me actually, in fact I remember the reason (am I the only one?) I was once at a church event and the hallways had no lights on and I was running around in there it also has so many cork boards up and stuff in there to! Is this familiar to anyone else?!

Liminal spaces are nostalgic they have this peaceful yet uneasy feeling. places I've seen in my dreams and even places I think I've been to. the park one and the bowling alley really hits.

It gave me vibes on Backrooms even though it didnt give me any nostolgia or creepiness

I feel when you take something in for the first time is that it's unfamiliar. that unfamiliarity makes it so you take in the entirety of the space you're in to the finest detail, when you go back to it after it being a void memory for so long the only parts you take in are the ones you observed to most. So basically you have no memory of the people but more the space, that's exactly why it being void of life is essential so you can better remember it as it's how you remember the space or a space similar to the one you're viewing.

I dont always necessarily feel uneasy, but it does make me sad because I'm reminded of the passage of time

I think one part of liminal is just the fact that their not very specific and therefore cause there's not much that's specific in these photo at least one aspect seems relevant to the viewer

I look at them and I feel nothing. I hated being a kid. I was a relatively smart kid, so I always knew what should and shouldn't be done, but I couldn't do what should because "you're a child, you don't know what you're doing". I don't know if that's related to it, but me hating being a child and feeling no nostalgia in them might have some connection

It’s always the ones that look the most “dead” that get me. TV screens and arcade machines broken or turned off, no sign of people, nothing that gives evidence that these places were once filled and crowded (for example glasses of water or food). Places that are meant to sustain human life yet just aren’t.

What these feel like to me is places that look deeply, *deeply* like places you may have been to, but can't/don't remember. Think about all the gaps in your childhood memory, that's where these images lie.

Despite creepiness I feel while looking at some of these, I often feel like I want to go to these places.

These images have interested me for a long time too. Will you make another video on this topic?

I feal like these could be backrooms levels like that one in the party room looks like level fun and the thing we’re ther is no people in it is a big thing of being alone but not noting if there’s anything in there though.
