The video I made about the PMR-171 has been quite popular. See that here - • NEW! GUOHETEC PMR-171 ...
On tonight's Livestream, I will be testing the spectrum analysis of the transmissions from this radio, using a TinySA Ultra. Thanks to Guohetec for sending me this radio, and to Seesii for the TinySA Ultra

I got the manoVNA H4. From R&L. B Friday special. Amazing what these small meters can do.

BTW, I believe pronunciation of manufacturer is "Go-hey-tec". This radio is similar to the Q900.

The UHF /VHF is a TNC connector ,I have one of the radios with all the modules GPS/DMR . I have found that mine will TX a carrier but will not transmit a modulated carrier , APRS says it needs a SIM card installed.

we have antenna automatic tuning, when the SWR is high, you could long press TUNE to adjust that
@HamRadio2
@HamRadio2 6 месяцев назад
in this case, it was a bad connector.
@MrDJXR
@MrDJXR 6 месяцев назад
Thst might be a TNC, which is basically a threaded BNC. A mini UHF looks like an F connector and is what comes standard on Motorola. Thanks again
@MrDJXR

How does this compare to the SAA 2N? I opted for that model due to the bulkhead N connectors. They just seemed to be way more robust than the SMAs. At the time, it was advertised to work up to 3ghz as well. I've actually used it to tune duplexers for GMRS and was able to measure 96db rejection. There's a video out there of it being done and comparing it to a professional VNA. I've definitely wanted to know how to do this, so thanks for the video! NA9LE

The connector for VHF/UHF is a TNC Female. The inner pin and dielectric are the same as BNC, but the Bayonet is replaced with threads.
@HamRadio2
@HamRadio2 6 месяцев назад
TNC, yes... that is what some routers have too. Thanks, I will look that one up. Kinda dumb for a radio, though...
@kevingaukel4950
@kevingaukel4950 6 месяцев назад
@HamRadio2 Actually, a TNC has a higher frequency rating than BNC and is comparable to Type N. I have worked on Space-Qualified hardware, and TNC connectors are used more than Type N above 2 GHz.
@mrbigmatt

Second this on the TNC side, I used to work in GPS and we used TNC connectors quite frequently.

You need an RF Sampler so you can protect the spectrum analyzer. That is a TNC connection

I was actually consdiering buying this radio versus a G90. For the primary reason that I will do HF and VHF. CW, APRS, and DMR. BUT there are so many incomplete features and the manual is really incomplete. It would just frustrate me.

So we sold our home in the city and bought land up in the great North of Wisconsin. The majority of family is here and across the country as well. HAM radios have always interested me and some in the family as well. So what does one do and need for a beginner. Radio is obviously needed and I think there is a test as well. Now I'm sure I can find info on line but why not ask here where I know I'll be given great answers from the community here......Thank you.

Jason you stopped changing the frequency on the tiny SA after the first frequency swap that might be the issue.
@HamRadio2
@HamRadio2 5 месяцев назад
Yes but after we went back to that original frequency, it still didn't work. It was a connector problem - I used the TinySA later on my 'Feng video and it works just fine, with new connectors.

Test that attenuator . I had one bad from Amazon. had High SWR threw it from new and sent back and replacement is fine. also looks like a TNC connector. same as BNC with threaded outside. mini UHF is same as UHF just smaller. that attenuator should not get hot at 5 watts. hope this helps. 73's
@HamRadio2
@HamRadio2 6 месяцев назад
I had it at 10 watts when it was somewhat warm. I do think it's a bad connector though

@@HamRadio2 that the heat. could not read display on radio on you tube. APE said 5 watts . test all connectors. Throw the bad one out right away . the outher port is TNC on the radio. 73's

I always run my radios into a dummy load with a sniffer port for the test equipment. ( ARRL test procedures show this).😏

To GUOHETEC... When I decided to buy PMR171 I thought: it is like putting together a Xiegu G90 (450 €) + Baofeng DR 1801 DMR (150 €) = 600 €. The price of PMR171 + DMR is 1.192 €. (835 € with the discount). G90 is a great radio. I own one for more than one year. I take it with me in all my outdoor expeditions and it always works very well. It is not necessary to set it with extrange configurations to get it working eitheir in LSB, USB, FM... GD88 is also a good radio, estable and reliable. PMR171 is more expensive. I would undersatand it because it is suposed to support SSB modulation in VHF and UHF. But considering that the audio quality of SSB is a disaster and DMR performance is more than poor, I consider that you are selling a product that is not prepared to go to the market.

I'll bet you blew the attenuator because this radio has non working power adjustment issues on certain bands. Test PA on different bands with a power meter into a dummy load to confirm. - KC3JXT
