Another improvement of part 2 is when Ellie and Abby are doing a stealth kill and get caught midway through the animation they will finish the kill much faster (slits throat or snaps neck) in part 1 Joel will keep choking someone even if he's getting shot at which looks terrible and stupid.
True. I gotta say. Abby was pretty much Joel. Shives, Choking enemies and shit. Punching enemies. They're both very similar. Which is kinda interesting.
@@MariusBoss11458 i thought this too, when part 1 was announced i figured they’d port abby’s mechanics to joel in some way, wish they had included at least a few features like dodge or new melee combat but regardless im hyped for part 1
@@MariusBoss11458 And Abby having a younger sidekick. She even has a wooden board puzzle just like all the ones Joel had to do. Her melee animations too, the punches are very similar to Joel's. I think she was supposed to parallel him.
i despise the original part I stalkers- they feel like such an oversight. someone at ND was like “we gotta have SOMETHING between runners and clickers… uh, just make runners more shitty!”. in both encounters with stalkers in part I i literally just wait in one place with a shotgun. you can’t do that in part II. i hate stalkers in part II as well, but for the right reasons. they’re creepy, intelligent, and awesome looking. im so glad they’re being added to part I!
Maybe but part II clickers are so much worse than part one. In part one they are much more creapy and unpredictable and faster than part two and I liked that they are hard to deal with unlike part two
@@gazirani2204 i respectfully disagree. clickers in part II have real echolocation and are extremely sensitive, and fast when alerted. they’re also (debatably) harder to kill. part I clickers are great, but i still think part II clickers are an improvement. im not saying there’s no comparison- they’re pretty similar
@@wowlsdraws4137 I respect your opinion I can agree that part II clickers are esthetically looking better but my biggest consert is difficulty of a game part I clickers are more unpredictable and they make more sudden little movement while part II are slower also part II clickers have bigger hit boxes witch mekes them more easy to hit. I recently played part I and II on grounded and I can say this littel things makes part one much more harder and difficulties more diverse than part II which I liked because for me part II is immensely easier
@@gazirani2204 Truthfully, I think both of you guys are right for different reasons. The clickers technically remained the same throughout both games; however the size and overall level design of the last of us part 2 makes the clickers seem more of a joke, and makes stalkers 100x more annoying/effective. (Good comparison: think of the clickers in the high school in part 1, compared to the clickers in the parking garages in part 2. The parking garage in part 2 is a bigger environment than the entire highschool ever was. You can just endlessly run around those cars and not worry about getting hit almost ever.)
I think the clickers in part 1 are much more easier to deal with because Joel can move around a lot faster than ellie during the couch animation while Ellie's couching has weight to it and the clickers in part 1 didn't use Echolocation as often and the animation for when they did was very subtle.
@@Mrs_Puffington i actually like this idea. i wasn't particualrly bothered by this issue, but i think that adding some randomness to it woulda been cool. and less frustrating for other players.
I like it. It allows enemies to pin you down while others flank you, and it makes stealth in general more tense because you need to wait for them to stop focusing if you're not forced to move entirely. It could be improved though.
Wouldn't have been problem if they had just added a blind fire mechanic so you can stun the enemy with a bullet then pop out of cover to finish them off with melee attacks since that only happens when they're close to you.
I found the trap mines really useful for shamblers and stalkers that have predictable paths for them to walk across, but also a nail bomb would totally get the job done and probably even better because the sound of it landing from being thrown would attract even more into it’s blast radius
I’m a total nail bomb user. If you time it right you can take out a group all at once. I save my molotovs for the clickers and the bloaters or for emergency situation where you get swarmed.
@@gregesquivel7002 something tells me you haven’t actually played on grounded because resources are so scarce you have to use everything you possibly can 😂 or it was just so long ago you’re not remembering correctly
Trap mines were very useful for dogs who caught your scent. Drop it and move to some other cover and the dog would get blown to bits without giving away your exact position
@@uhuhuh1966 no i never did lol it was just about a month ago, i basically stealthed or ran through every section when possible, if not id fight but if anything wasnt as efficient as possible in a scenario id restart encounter so it took a very long time
I remember watching some tlou modder show off some unused dialogue in the game files, there’s lines for ellie apologizing after getting caught (like there is for dina and lev in part ii). Maybe in the remake they’ll actually use these lines and your companions will be able to get caught?
As pretty as it looks I would’ve loved for them to redo some of the levels and add encounters or even add new areas so that going prone and the dodge system could be added in. It seems like they left out the gore system too but it’s kind of hard to tell from this. For as much flack as part 2’a story got, the game play was truly amazing and damn near perfect in my eyes.. so it’s a little more than disappointing that they couldn’t give us a proper’ remake’ so that those things could be added without breaking the game, as they say.. it’s just a little shy of being a new game play experience for me to warrant a purchase.
@@TSyoyo A clicker was blown in half. Also, I think they just didn't show the human gore in the preview/trailer, to be in 'good taste'. I can't imagine they removed it.
Personally im excited for this remake. Now I won't be buying it straight away purely because of the price but I'll be willing to play it down the line. Also guys just because it's coming out doesn't mean you have to buy it.
In game cinematics are quite a big deal, it means that the scenes are dynamic, meaning if you play on 4K, the scenes are rendered in real time in 4K, change an outfit, that scene reflects it. I'm just glad it's coming to PC, I just hope it's well optimised and not just a straight port.
@@Rachel-96 I mean technically it's been a feature since the dawn of videogame cutscenes. But TLoU Remastered had pre-rendered cutscenes, Uncharted 4 was the first Naughty Dog game to use realtime cutscenes
I bought it but I think the way they should have handled its price was if you own TLOU remaster then it’s discounted to 50 but for first time owners it would be 70
I think it should be 70 across the board, 70 US dollars is too expensive, specially for third world countries, it's a huge amount of money(30% of minimum wage or worse in a bunch of places). Besides, it would be tough to implement a feature like that, that discounts the game if you bought it before the remake, because The Last of Us was given on Ps Plus, so dozens of millions of players have had the remaster for years.
@@joaopedroaraujo123 Well if I was a betting man I’d say that people in third world countries aren’t buying PS5 especially if a third of there income is 70 dollars. Also you have to pay for PS Plus and if they’ve had the remaster for awhile “for free” through PS Plus then they’ve prolly payed more than what the the remake costs just from the reoccurring monthly charge of PS Plus. Easy system for that if you’ve payed for PS Plus for at least 3 months and have 10 hours on the remaster or something then it’s discounted.
@@michaelplaysgames428 giving a discount based on playtime on the original game would be a neat idea. By the way, the Remaster is also coming to Pc, so not only it will be prohibitively expensive for the PS5 owners, but for Pc owners as well, a Pc player with limited income and a budget build that never played the first game will be getting royaly fisted by the 70 dollars price point, it's an outreageous amount no matter how you spin it.
@@joaopedroaraujo123 Do you know what a third world country is? I doubt many people in third world countries have a PS5 and are concerned about this remake.
@@Kryptix Yes, my friend, I do know what a Third world country is, I have lived on one for all my life. Hundreds of thousands people here own a PS5 and millions own an entry level Pc, and they will be getting fisted over this 70 dollar price point, for Americans or Europeans, 70 dollars is "pricy" and "a bit too much" but for us it's prohibitive and insulting considering that our minimum wage is currently 220 dollars. Just because the country itself isn't financially doing well doesn't mean that there aren't millions of people here with the financial conditions of buying a Pc or a PS5, we are consumers too and we deserve fair prices just like everybody else. I love the Last of Us, it's pretty much my favorite game, but there's no way I'm paying this much to play it again, it's quite a bit more expensive than Part II was, that's crazy
I noticed a minor detail in the remake that was introduced in part 2, is that Ellie and Abbie would the hammer on the pistol/revolver/hunting pistol even though the semi auto pistols are semi auto Ellie still pulled the hammer, and Joel did that during the stalker fight on the showcase of the 3d audio feature which I think is a neat little detail!
The speedrun mode is huge not only to existing runners and making moderators job easier on the website but also encourages new players to give it a try.
Great video. Great job pointing out gameplay differences that seemingly everyone else is missing. Hyped for the game. Looking forward to some next generation TLOU speedruns.
BTW, I've always felt that your channel exposure and such was limited in that TLOU is a PS exclusive. I hope with the PC version you get a lot more viewers and such since a whole new group of people will be able to experience TLOU. That said, I much prefer watching console speed runners than PC speed runners for various reasons so I hope you stick with the PS5 version.
I was cool with the Nail Bomb nerf in Part II because it made Ellie's smoke bomb way more useful than Joel's. I think I use a Smoke Bomb maybe once a playthrough in the original. Like why blind some people temporarily when I can throw a Bomb at the same group and kill them instead? I'm fine with Nail Bombs staying the same but I hope they atleast buff the Smoke Bomb in Part I to have legit stunning properties. Those Smoke Bomb combos in Part II never got old to me.
A lot of people seem to think that only dodging and proning is what made 2's combat so good. It has to do with player movement, animation speed and the functionality of the AI. The original's gameplay doesn't feel great because Joel moves like a board. I have a feeling this will be a lot better.
Exactly the same thoughts I’ve been having. Went back to the second game and try to do it without probing. Can’t really not use the dodge otherwise you are fucked. But can confirm, gameplay is not made because of that damn Prone or the doge for that matter… even tho the dodge could still be implemented without breaking it.
@@sugs0377 Just because you saw a one minute clip from a dude that's terrible at the game doesn't mean you know the feel of how the character controls. If you've never played the first or second game and just watched gameplay, you could conclude that they play the same because they "look" the same.
Nothing wrong with having an upgrade to an old game, the issue is the mentality to price this as a full $70. Its not a new game and we have seen graphic updates to games and cost a lot less, some are free.
Eh, I think nowadays, the price sticking point is largely moot, because games, and especially PlayStation and Xbox games tend to drop in price so, so fast. I remember getting Death Stranding and Control for $35-40 a month after launch. Not a single one of us HAS to buy these games day 1. In a game like this, in which it's a Remake of an existing game, it's not like there are spoilers to worry about dodging if you've played the original release and Remaster. And believe me, I'm no stranger to not being able to afford video games, so for those individuals that the price of this Remake (or any modern game release), I definitely understand the concerns about the price. For those of us where we can afford to spend the money on these products, we can always wait. Sony and Naughty Dog aren't holding a gun to our heads and forcing us to buy the game day 1 at $70. I don't know, I guess since I don't suffer from FOMO, I have no problem with waiting a few weeks/months for the price to drop to something I'm more comfortable with when it comes to games these days. I haven't decided if I'm buying this day one (but I probably will, because I adore this game), but I've certainly waited for games to go on sale when I felt with my completely internal and arbitrary metric, that the game wasn't really worth buying for full price. At the end of the day, as consumers, the power is in our hands to buy these products when the price point is something we're comfortable with. With all this said, I really enjoyed your breakdown of the trailer! I work in the gaming industry, and my perspective on a lot of industry things has changed significantly over the past 18 years I've been a part of said industry, and I'm also an artist, so I picked up on a lot of little details about this Remake that really excites me and has me more willing to opt in Day 1. TLOU is an amazing game, but there are a lot of gameplay things that it could benefit from, and it's awesome to see ND implementing a lot of what they've learned from Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 and applying it to easily one of the best video games ever made to make it just that much better. Just that much closer to their intended vision that the limited PS3 hardware was unable to deliver on back then. The original is still an excellent game, but I can't wait to see how much smoother it will be to play it with all the little improvements that tend to go overlooked (which you also picked up on in this video!)! Thanks for the great video!
What part of the world are you in? I’m in Australia & I never saw Death Stranding for $40 or I would’ve bought it. I’m glad I waited and now had a chance to play it for free on the PS5 with the new deluxe subscription. I honestly find it a bit dull though & am more looking forward to replaying the new TLOU remaster on the PS5 … after the price drops though because it will be $100 aus.
Dude, what? Forbidden West came out 6 months ago and the cheapest the PS5 version's been is $50. Sony is adapting Nintendo's philosophy of maintaining value of their titles by only having small, infrequent sales. This is true for other exclusives this gen too.
@@susanlisson7066 I should have clarified USD. I'm in the US, and, yeah, I got Death Stranding and Control for about $35-40 a month or so after release on Amazon! And yeah, I've heard that the price of these games are really high in other countries, so I don't blame anyone waiting for it to be cheaper. I know I do it all the time with games as well! I still have yet to beat Death Stranding. I bought the PS4 version, then upgraded to the PS5 version, but I just haven't had the time to really dive into it. The irony of working in video games is that I barely have the time to actually play many! My backlog is massive XD XD I'm currently playing Stray, LEGO Star Wars, and Horizon Forbidden West, and hopefully I'll beat them eventually lol
@@Etrius0023 They really aren't, it's just that with PS5 supply constrained, they aren't in a hurry to drop the price of first party games too quickly. Games like Forbidden West, Gran Turismo, God of War, etc, are system sellers, so they can afford to keep the price close to MSRP a little longer. As PS5 market saturation starts to grow, they'll begin to drop the prices quicker. Horizon is also bundled with PS5's as well. And $50 is still almost 25% off of the $70 MSRP. Tying into the above, it's also supply and demand that dictates whether or not retailers feel the need to drop the price of a game and when. If a game is selling well at full price, that's less incentive to reduce the price. Once sales of the game slow, you'll start to see more price drops (like you said, the cheapest you saw it was $50, which indicates that sales slowed, so they cut the price, saw a spike in sales, then returned the price to full afterwards). The point I was making is that prices DO go down, and not a single one of us HAS to buy these games day 1. Waiting for a sale is always an option, even if the wait ends up being long. Sony isn't adopting Nintendo's practice of keeping their first party titles full price near indefinitely, and nothing really indicates that that is what they're doing, because every first party game released since the PS5 launched has seen at least one sale at some point (from Demon's Souls to Ratchet & Clank). Permanent price drops tend to happen much later on, when sales potential has REALLY dropped, and they're looking to grab a few extra sales to push it. System sellers generally have longer legs, so their prices stay as close to MSRP as possible compared to non-system sellers. But there are certainly always exceptions. Depends on market demand.
@@Figboy Like I said, there's been small sales. HFW is _not_ a system seller, neither was the first one and you emphasizing that HFW was _almost 25% off_ just shows how awful Sony's pricing this gen has been (awful for consumers at least, I'm sure Jim Ryan is happy). And I'm well aware that Sony can sell their games for whatever they want. But I'm not paying $70 or even $50 for HZD 1.5 or a graphical update of TLoU1. At this point I think the PS5 will be my last console since it's obvious that Sony has decided that blue-collar saps like me who don't have money to throw around are worthless.
I'm really glad you did this video, no one knows the little subtleties and intimacies of this game as you do and your review of the Remake is a reflection of that. I was a little bit bummed about no Dodge and no prone, but the more I thought about it Joel is too big to go prone really and there's no short grass for him to go prone in. I would still like to have Dodge, but whatever. 70 definitely is a lot but I have already pre-ordered the game as well. Can't wait to watch you play the game the day it comes out. Your videos have also made me proficient in grounded so I'll be playing on Survivor for my first playthrough. 🙂
@@deadopsgx8578 Lol. I mean they would have to redesign the levels so that he would have places to go prone in. That is what they told us they were doing originally if I'm not mistaken, but they wanted to stay "true to the original" 😏. It's not that he's too big, what I should have said is it doesn't really suit his personality. You know how Ellie is more nimble than Abby, and every character feels different when you play them? That's what I meant. Trust me I'm still holding out hope for prone and Dodge, I even made a haiku about it on the PushSquare.Com discussion board /warzone. Would you like to hear it? (Ahem) Dodge Button Absent Nostalgia Up For Resale When will I Go Prone
One thing I hope they don't rework is the upgrade system. I know it was different in Part 2 where if you take the pills, they're only one upgrades but in part 1 the healing speeds skills for it were literally almost instant.
I am glad that you said they couldn’t just add the accessibility features in a patch. It irritates me when someone says, just add it in a patch, when they clearly can’t.
For real when is the Ps5 gonna be in the stores?I don't want to order it I want to buy it in a store so when my Ps5 doesn't work i can complain with a person face to face😬😅😂
When I was younger, playing as Ellie was so scary because she was just generally weaker than Joel. So I had to change my strategy. But when I returned to the game, I just memorised when and where the infected would come from and it was easy. Bricks/bottles became my best friend as well.
Those running animations are definitely spot-on for The Last of Us Part I's animations, if they were tweaked, it's only barely. Also, that point where you were curious where in the game it was- it looks like it's in the University Building in Eastern Colorado when the hunters ambushed you, after finding the tape recorder that leads you to Salt Late City.
totally. i might get it for full price on PC, or at a slight discount a bit later. but i will be replaying it soooo many times, attempt grounded, permadeath etc... that it will totally be worth it for me either way
Unfortunately, nothing we've seen so far tells us if the movement telegraphed from the controller will feel as smooth as it did for Part 2. If people try the remake and the control results for movement, searching and combat feel wonky, that's going to be an immediate turnoff.
I was waiting for someone else to comment this. It fucking eats a dick that the dodge mechanic is absent, But if this game manages to feel like 2 as you mentioned, I'll be happy. That's my only real complaint other than that filthy price tag.
I don't think Joel would have tried sprinting because that whole system was built for part 2. They may do it here for the remake but I don't know. Personally, I wouldn't mind it because I enjoyed that system you felt then getting tired and it was pretty cool.
8:50 I felt the nail bomb was split into the trap mine, pipe bomb, and explosive arrow. The explosive arrow detonated instantly and had a wide area of effect like the nail bomb. The pipe bomb was weak and enemies often survived it. I couldn’t guarantee their deaths unless it was touching them.
i do think that this shit is awful. If it is $70 in the USA, it should be the equivalent amount in another country's currency, instead of an arbitrary £70. that's dumb. This shit doesn't happen in somewhere like Australia, when 70AUD is LESS than $70. Nope. In Australia the game will be higher.
Lol, the stuff about having a density of physics objects now possible on PS5 whilst true is something they puff up every generation lol. You can see Joel’s run in the leaks by the way.
70 dollars for a remake that takes out the multiplayer and is not gonna have alot of replay value? Nah I'm good,at least the multiplayer is something and yeah sure it did have some problems but if they could improve and do all this fancy shit with single player they could of definitely given the multiplayer a huge glow-up,this shit will end up in bargin bins in the future or just be on ps+ for free anyway
Also are they just not gonna mention the story advantage of being able to retcon the story. In the original game, the doctor Joel has to kill is random, and doesn’t look anything like Abby’s father. But now they can give hin the glasses and the voice so it all looks intentional. Like changing history type shit
So before the PS5 came out, ND updated TLOUR cutting down load times a bit. Do you think they will do the same with TLOU2? Cause when you load a game it feels like forever
If they re-record lines for Combat. I hope they do what you wished they did. No more "Omg they got Ashley!" Nah bro. We gotta get "YOU'RE DEAD ASSHOLE!"
I disagree about the seamless thing, having seamless transitions is quite nice I think personally, imagine if you could play Half life 2 without loading every 2 minutes.
As pretty as it looks I would’ve loved for them to redo some of the levels and add encounters or even add new areas so that going prone and the dodge system could be added in. Or buy the same game every year for 70 dollars this is the same crap I really can’t stand hypocrites who buy sports games or cod games but cry about this remake
If the enemy and buddy AI improvements in this remake are anything like the AI in Part II, will this be your definitive version to speedrun going forward?
This is the definitive breakdown for this trailer we've all been waiting for. A first time reaction video for these trailers would also be a nice addition.
@@venommagnus Yeah so I'm not interested until then. The PS3 & PS4 versions all had multiplayer. The PS5 version is a more expensive and feature incomplete version of the game.
You don't think many gamers will experience this game for the first time? especially PC gamers and this is a next generation game, we have to look at this a little bit fair, 70 dollars is a good price for a next generation game, we who We have experienced this game, we can wait for a discount and buy this game for $40
It's 100 bucks in Australia. I know the conversion from 100 Aus to 70 US dollars is the same BUT it sounds a lot WORSE for ppl buying this game in Aus to have to spend ONE HUNDRED for this remake
It is a remake. I don't get what's so hard to understand for people when it comes to the difference. Look at the original game, then look at the remaster, THEN look at this video for the remake. If you think it's just another remaster you're delusional.
They have remade the character models using new rigging technology not available circa 2014. If you look at the new Tess model in the side by side comparison she is completely different. As a general rule, if you remap anything in a game (rigging, lighting, coding) it is a remade game. This game may not have a ton of new gameplay mechanics, but it is by definition a remake. That being said, £70 is way too much for the third release of a game, regardless of console generation.
I think they have updated animations of the old animations, they look the same, because that’s how Joel fights… it’s like climbing a ladder… there’s only so many ways you can animate that. It’s the same fighting style but the animations do seem a little more taken care of. That running punch look to have a bigger pull back than the original punch. So I’m assuming there’s a lot of care to update them, but make them the same.
For me, TLOU1 was basically a downscaled PS4 game, and right now PS5 games just feel like upscaled PS4 games for the most part, so in a weird commutative property way, the original game doesn't feel like its even outdated.
bought it on ps3, bought it on ps4 and had to rebuy it on ps4 again as the EU version did not have the dismemberment stuff, very hard sell for me now... especially considering not having bought the tloup2 due to it lacking the factions mode...
14:40 I don't think that's necesarily true. If you are really fast you can still shoot first while peaking out of cover. Here is an example with footage from grounded enemy and stealth difficulty: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gJT7uOs9p50.html
what's really irritating is that people say I'm going to be mad if you don't stick to the original vision of the last of us and then when it comes around to the Remake everybody's like oh well they should have had a Dodge and prone and evasive Dodge nobody's happy over anything yeah the $70 price range maybe a little too high but Sony setting the prices for all their games
we're being asked to pay 70 bucks for a game, i think we can ask for two mechanics being added (and yes i understand that means them revamping the levels but they shouldn't have made that the price point if all they were doing was a graphics overhaul)
