Anandamrithakarshini - Amritavarshini - Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh
Once there was no rains in Ettayapuram where the great composer Shri Muthuswami Dikshitar lived, towards the end of his life. The villagers came and asked Dikshitar to please do something, to appease the raingods. Dikshitar sang this song Anandamrithakarshini in ragam Amrithavarshini and as he sang "Varshaya, Varshaya", the skies opened up and there was so much rain. Such was the power of this great composer.
I presented the Saraswathi Veena to a wonderful and receptive audience in Kolkata in December 2019 for the 17th Paramparik annual Indian Classical Conference. This particular song featured in that concert - presenting it here for you to enjoy!

One who brought Muthuswami Dikshithar to ettayapuram was Ettayapuram Ramachandra Bhagavathar Dikshithars direct disciple He is one if our forefathers from which family we hail from. For Sishyas request about drought in Ettayapuram he betsowed blessings by composing Anathamruthajarshini. Father used to say that Muthuswami Dikshithar stayed at our forefathers house. He attained siddhi there. The kings elephant went and laid in burial ground. Worried king asked Dikshithat whether this indicated bad omen to king. Dikshithar answered nothing will happen to king and asked him to wait and watch. On Dikshithar vb attaining mukthi elephant walked back to palace.

In Delhi it has been raining cats and dogs for the past two days and since it has brought back coldness, people don't want to get rains. Listening to amritavavarshini brings rain. Here I couldn't resist listening to Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh. Its ok I will take out my drycleaned sweater again but listening to her is a must. Ahaa.. I was drenched in her amritavavarshini. 🙏 🌹

When I will be asked to mention the things that I enjoyed in creation while I stand in front of Sadhashiva after this lifetime of mine, one of the few things on top of the list will be listening to your melodious veena!
