Today we will take a look at the Maharajah Trek at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Species list is included in the description. Will eventually remake all the older videos, hope everyone enjoys!
The last time I was here, I saw scarlet macaws flying over the hoofstock yard. I also learned that the deer, cranes, geese, blackbucks, and buffaloes used to live with Javan peacocks, who were moved off display because they kept roosting.
The macaws still fly over, there's a show that features them up by the front viewing of the tree of life that runs multiple times a day. I will have to look at old photos to see when the peacocks were there, I don't remember seeing them.
Agreed, it's one of my favorites there! The last few times I've visited it was calling in the morning, we could hear it near the entrance to the trails.
Thank you! Animal kingdom is one of my favorite places to spend time. Should be visiting the Dallas zoo before long, looking forward to visiting some of the Texas locations.
In the video you mentioned 26 bird species, but the species list you have only lists 22. Do you know what four species you missed on the species list? I know one is the bird at 13:25, white-breasted woodswallow.
Unfortunately I don't, the employees confirmed 26 but there's no full listing. The downloaded chart only shows partial species and the three identification boards are all out of date. If I can find out I'll post a new list in the community tab, I'll try to catch one of the keepers there....and thanks for the identification, couldn't tell what it was!
@@ZoosTravelers I don't know for certain, but I want to say they keep one of the fruit Dove species. Also, the frognouth is a Tawny frogmouth (only species kept in US), and I think the shama is a white-rumped shama thrush.
That is correct on the shama thrush, did not know that about the frogmouths. Let me find the list that is posted on the boards and I'll type that out here.
Here's the outdated list that is on the information boards in the Aviary: Green winged Dove, Forktail, Lesser Green Broadbill, Yellow-throated Laughing Thrush, Silver-eared Mesia, Rufuous-bellied Niltava, Coleto Mynah, Crested Jay, Copper-throated Sunbird, Golden-backed Woodpecker, Indian Pgymy Goose, Golden crested Mynah, Blue Whistling Thrush, Nicobar Pigeon, Blue winged Leafbird, Purple Sunbird, Red faced Liocichla, Hooded Pitta, Oriental White eye, Great Argus Pheasant, Yellow vented bulbul, Red Avadavat, Mandarin, Collared Kingfisher, Long tailed Broadbill, White-rumped Shama Thrush, Red-winged Laughing Thrush, Jambu Fruit Dove, Fairy Bluebird, Green Jungle Fowl, Crested Wood Partridge, White-headed Nuns, Red-throated Barbet, Azure winged Magpie, Indian Blue Roller. The Employee working the aviary a couple weeks ago said that only a few of those species are still in the aviary. Could be the three we are missing for a full list. Here's the list from the Downloadable Link in the Aviary: Metallic Starling, Masked Lapwing, Grey-Capped Emerald Dove, Malayan Great Argus, Falcated Teal, Indian Pygmy Goose, Mindanao Bleeding-Heart Dove, Nicobar Pigeon, Golden Crested Mynah, Victoria Crowned Pigeon, Pied Imperial Pigeon Black-Collared Starling, Blue-Crowned LaughingThrush, Crested Wood Partridge, Hooded Pitta, Fairy Bluebird.
@@ZoosTravelers yeah, whatever we are missing is probably from that list. I'll be going down there in a few weeks and I'll let you know what species I see, hopefully some of our missing ones.
@@ZoosTravelers Yeah i was wondering that and what separated lions and hoofstock in the heart if africa, saw it for myself, i still didnt see the barrier.
